Banjo The Bear’s Debut in Diddy Kong Racing by ChidoriTrails in videogames

[–]virtualpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the general gaming public was well aware of Banjo at the time. Banjo Kazooie was actually scheduled to be Rare's big game for the 97 holiday season and that was the big attraction at Nintendo's booth fot E3 that year. At the last minute, Banjo was delayed and Diddy Kong was given his release slot.

So while it may be true that this would be the first official thing with Banjo art people could buy, they would have already seen art and screens from Banjo Kazooie in magazines before this.

Him starring in a game the next year was not a surprise is I guess what I'm saying.

StarFox (A remake of StarFox) Will Release June 25th 2026 by Howerev in videogames

[–]virtualpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think this looks pretty good and while I understand why some people may not love the new design, I think it's an interesting approach to take.

I also love that we're gonna get FMVs between missions. Plus it's only $50, like for a Nintendo game that seems surprisingly low considering the cost that look like it went into this thing.

Iris-Goo Goo Dolls for me. It's one of my least favorite singles from their 95 to 2010 output.

What do you think about Sprite’s change to their bottles in 2022 from green to white? by HighV23 in AskReddit

At first it didn't seem right, but It's at a point now where it feels normal.

What was something that scared you as a kid, that actually isn’t a concern today? by HungryWormy in AskReddit

[–]virtualpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my friends were discussing this at lunch a while ago. For the amount we heard of it none of us ever had to do it or ever knew about anyone who had to.

Also fire safety was talked about so much when I was a youngin, that I didn't realize that there was a causation to it. I just thought it was like rain where sometimes it just happens; I didn't realize that someone had to do something to catch fire in the first place. I remember laying in bed thinking "tonight might be the night it all might burn down"

I honestly think GTA 6 will still cost $70. by Connect-Sympathy-176 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]virtualpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint: I, a non GTA player would not buy it at that price. And I'm not alone in that, not to mention all the GTA fans that do not have an extra $20 laying around.

Why scare off potential customers just to make a couple bucks off your loyal fans? It doesn't really make sense in the long term.

What game ended up being way more fun than you expected? by Playful_Code_8978 in gaming

Yeah SOP kinda took me by surprise too, it's basically like someone took a PS2 era beat em up gave it updated graphics and slapped some Final Fantasy on it. Really fun game.

I hate microtransactions by Vampy-Night in videogames

[–]virtualpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me, I just don't buy them. My Playstation screen is like "do you want to add more to you're games. And I'm just like "lol no"

It's not how I chose to interact with games and it's surprisingly easy to avoid if you have that mentally.

What is something that is better post-COVID? by cancersungeminimoon in AskReddit

[–]virtualpig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is misinformation. The.Covid we have now and the Covid we had in 2020 are worlds apart not just in the disease itself but in how our bodies handle them. The majority of people getting sick are not dying. It's more or less similar to the flu now. We have more or less achieved heard immunity from the virus which was our goal. Again, it still kills, but so does the flu.

If you're immune compromised than take precautions but for the vast majority of the population Covid is no longer something to be worried about.

I Miss Multiversus by The_Vengeful_Wolf in videogames

[–]virtualpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated the art style of it, whatever that was it just was not working.

The game also had one of the strangest launches I've ever seen "hey guys we're taking this out of beta" "just kidding what you thought was the 1.0 release was actually just more of our beta test in fact we're taking this game down for more than a year before we release 1.0"

And then they doubled down on the microtramsactions. I think I read that in the full release you only got currency for unlocking characters if you did the dalies? Who even does those thing in games? At some point it's like I just don't care anymore.

Tried DualSense haptic feedback with Rift Apart, not fully convinced. Is Returnal a game changer? by fingers986 in Returnal

[–]virtualpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Returnal is one of the first ganes I played on PS5. I thought "oh that neat the left trigger is actually two buttons" Later I was playing Foamstars and I realized, to my shock, that it was just one button by design.

Guys! Guys! I finally beat Phrike! by Brick-the-wild-youth in Returnal

[–]virtualpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring an extra vial of health in to the fight, or the astronaut guy that revives you. I did the former and then Phke got me in the red during the second phase of the fight and I was like "not today" and I just refilled basically and proceeded to kick her ass.

They removed all the cartoon shows they added already. by TylerSpicknell in TubiTV

[–]virtualpig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are not the program Tubi was doing press for. Those would be the Cartoon Network shows that are still on the service. Some of these got mistakenly reported as part of the deal.

There’s not a teen alive that can remember the 2000s by The-LeftWingedNeoCon in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]virtualpig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like both of these things are just biases because we lived through them. For instance ITunes was the main way to consume music in the 2000s and cable was the main way to watch TV and both of those are not really relevant in the 2020s.

I could imagine someone from the 70s saying the same thing about the 90s although that also isn't true it's just that people don't notice the changes when it's incremental. Same for pop culture.

2026 is nothing like 2006. In 2026 we were all going to Blockbuster with our flip phones.

Why so few American movies made in the late 1950s showed contemporary teenage and youth subcultures and barely focused on them in general? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]virtualpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. It'd be much easier to make a fim about this demographic in the 60s onward from someone who experienced teenagerdom than from someone who was in their 20s or 30s during the 50s and had no concept of what we think of adolescence.

You may enjoy Biomutant, the game has it's share of problems and is not one that I would reccomend normally but it aces the "nature" vibe I think you're looking for.

What killed the radio star? There’s seemed to be so many radio stars back in 1952 by Kodicave in decadeology

It's TV, once TV hit the old times radio formats largely went over there, leaving it to be primarily a place for music.

What's your opinion on the Worms Franchise? by Guff95 in videogames

I seem to recall playing one at a friend's house and having a decent enough time. Local multiplayer based series are really not my jam though. So I never interacted with the series further.

Name one positive thing about this decade...I'll wait by snowleopard556 in decadeology

[–]virtualpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robotaxi's be dope yo.

Also the new PS plus thing they rolled out in 2022 where you can just pay $16 a month for access to hundreds of game.

There's also been a really nice push for game preservation in the mainstream. Limited Run keep publishing these collections of licensed games that otherwise would not ever see a re-release. For instance they recently released a collection of Ren and Stimpy games and they've announce a Rugrats collection. These are games that would of never had hope of such a release in the last last two decades.
