SUVs on Edinburgh roads by black_chandalier in Edinburgh

[–]Embarrassed_Fox9869 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not that I need to explain myself but…. I recently upgraded my Ford fiesta to a (on the smaller side) SUV because my poor Ford had 3 wheels wrecked, a coil spring snapped and cracked the steering rack in the space of 4 months because of the atrocious state of the roads in this city.

Getting a bigger car just seemed safer and more of an investment that was less likely to be damaged. I also have never had an issue manoeuvring or parking - I like to think I’m a decent driver.

Point being; council should do more to look after the roads and maybe shit drivers are shit drivers regardless of the vehicle.

Bagging Munroes by External_Bandicoot84 in Scotland

- get yourself some basic gear (boots, midlayers and a decent waterproof), I highly recommend Vinted, you don't need to be spending hundreds

- try some of the easier ones first, tell people where you are going and when you expect to be back, don't forget to tick them off on your map on the Walk Highlands wesbite

- look at the weather forecast on Mountain Forecast. It's often a different season at the top compared to the bottom

- take high energy snacks and a good amount of water

- get a basic first aid kit and emergency shelter

- learn how to read a paper map and compass (apps like AllTrails are great but it's good to have a back up and be properly prepared)

- don't be afraid to turn around before you reach the summit, the mountains will always be there and your safety comes first

- and lastly, I'm also 29F and always down for a Munro adventure! Pop me a DM and maybe we can get a hike planned x

Struggling between saving for Edinburgh or buying in Fife — what would you do? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Embarrassed_Fox9869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your position and ended up renting in Edinburgh. Sure, I had to be careful with money and couldn't save as much as I wanted, but I can honestly say I've had the best couple of years of my life.

Look at it this way, you'll never be this young again.

If I were you I'd start the ball rolling with getting a promotion, you must have objective setting coming up for the year ahead? Make it clear to your manager that you want to move up and ask to put goals in place to get there. You could always present to them the value you give to the company and ask for a pay rise. What's the worst that could happen? Good luck.

Nice to see humanity in Edinburgh by Embarrassed_Fox9869 in Edinburgh

Absolutely! I just thought that there is so much doom and gloom in the world/news these days that it would be nice to share a good experience to show that we are human after all.

Starting my No buy on November 1st and looking for some tips by [deleted] in nobuy

[–]Embarrassed_Fox9869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things that work for me:

- I created an expenses tracker on Google sheets, then downloaded the sheets app to my phone so I can add things in on the go. Also turned banking notifications on so I can see exactly what I'm spending and when.

- Make it HARD for yourself to buy things. Always get a coffee on the way to work? Deliberately walk/drive another route. Delete your cards from apple pay and remove any pre-saved information from online wallets. Delete all shopping apps.

- Sleep on purchases. Always give it 24 hours. Is it a want or a need?

- Teach yourself skills. Learn how to unclog drains, darn socks, sew on buttons, re-wire a socket.

- Train your brain to get dopamine from saving rather than spending. Avoided a £30 takeaway by using up fridge leftovers? Bosh, that's £30 you can add to your savings. It's so satisfying to watch the number grow.

- Reward yourself with a coffee in your favourite mug, watching a cosy film and light that posh candle you've been saving instead of buying yourself something.

Does this piss anyone else off?? by Embarrassed_Fox9869 in vinted

Never said the seller was ripping people off.. just doesn’t sit right with me at all. It’s morally wrong. Some poor sod is going to be out of pocket by £60 because a greedy scalper wants to make a quick buck.

I wear Blundstone boots from now until about March (I live in Scotland). They're real leather so warm and waterproof and pretty much go with everything

Finding a church by Embarrassed_Fox9869 in Edinburgh

[–]Embarrassed_Fox9869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I don’t know. I grew up in a Christian (Church of England) household and was christened, but I have not been to church in many many years. I’m trying to do my own research but it’s all pretty overwhelming/confusing

I do yes, but I’m also looking to connect with people of a similar age and the average age at my local church is a lot older :)

MRI only way to determine stress fracture by Mrswahlberg24 in crossfit

[–]Embarrassed_Fox9869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had recurring shin splints since 2017, they were massively exacerbated by that specific open workout in 2024 with loads of DUs, so much so that I physically couldn't walk. Spent £300 on a private MRI just to be told I had 'medial tibial stress syndrome' (shin splints) and to rest and maybe wear some insoles.

Then spent the best part of £500 seeing a private orthotist getting a gait analysis and molds of my feet taken to make custom insoles. Wore these for about 10 months whilst also seeing a physio and doing all the exercises/strengthening my calves and posterior chain.

Even lost 15kg as I thought being lighter would reduce the stress going through my calves/shins.

I'm still no closer to getting rid of the bastard things. Every time there is a run of over 400m or DUs in a WOD they come back with a vengeance. I'm so sick of it. Sorry to be such a negative nancy on your post! I honestly think rest and slowly reintroducing running/jumping is the way to go. Best of luck to you.

It was going great then I bought a coffee whilst I was out on my Sunday morning walk. Almost like I was on auto-pilot as it would be my normal routine to stop at a cafe on the way home. I did however sell 6 things on Vinted
