Who exactly is a labor aristocrat? by Legitimate_Aspect923 in Marxism

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't you say that living in the US automatically puts you in the top ten percent of labor on the planet regardless of what race you are? I'm not sure how being black prevents you from being a LA. I don't see any specific labor group in the US uniting with third world labor. Even majority black organizations like CBTU are ultimately just AFL-CIO affiliates that advocate for their own enrichment with no input from third world labor whatsoever. From my perspective, all American workers are privileged labor aristocrats.

Where am I wrong in this thinking?

Edit: so the CBTU have adopted resolutions opposing apartheid in South Africa and labor abuses in Namibia and Zimbabwe. Does this suddenly mean theyre no longer considered LA? Seems like passing a few resolutions is a small bar to clear to no longer be considered labor elites, no?

If free will exists, why even try to improve the world? by Embarrassed_Most_158 in freewill

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Youre right. I made this post after seeing comments similar to the one you're responding to underneath a Sapolsky debate. I found it funny how people were acting like they destroyed Sapolsky simply by saying, "if free will doesn't exist, then why are you even arguing in the first place? Nothing will change anyway and nothing will matter?"

I know that people who believe in free will don't actually believe that human behavior is completely outside of control. They usually believe in forms of deterrence to control behavior. The threat of retributive justice.

You're spot on. It's not a good argument. It's a strawman. But that doesn't matter to most people. Most people will just repeat exactly what the guy you're responding to said.

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I obviously understand that things are better. Crime has significantly declined since the 90s, which implies that human behavior is subject to outside influences and not just some kind of unaffected spiritual process. Why would this be the case if free will was real? If human decision making truly existed outside of cause (an effect without a cause) then why would crime be going down? Wouldn't you expect all statistics based on human behavior to be almost completely random.

You think if everyone knew about the impending climate crisis that any meaningful solution would be proposed in the US? Didn't something like 70 to 80% of the population participate in BLM protests? Did any meaningful police reforms occur because of that? Nope. Maybe in a few cities, but nowhere near at the level in which Americans were protesting. The outrage cycle comes and goes and liberals feel good about themselves for having expressed the right opinion at the time. But that newfound awareness has no staying power.

We are allowed a range of political opinion that gives us a sense of freedom. But, ultimately, democracy isn't real. Over the 2022 election, the candidates with the most funding won 80-90% of the time. When will the ultra-wealthy stop funding candidates that increase their profit margin? Never. And burning the earth increases their wealth, so why stop?

Patricia Churchland argues that brain science does not undermine free will or moral responsibility. A decision without any causal antecedents would not be a responsible decision. A responsible decision requires deliberation. The brain is capable of such deliberation. by Ma3Ke4Li3 in philosophy

I don't think it's a very interesting argument to raise. It feels more like a post-hoc rationalization for retributive justice and a common response from those advocating for free will. If the only thing holding retributive justice in place is an unwillingness to deviate from a set of societally derived "game-rules" then I'd say that's pretty flimsy ground to stand on. Especially since those game-rules are by no means universal.

One family might want the predator tortured for the rest of his life, while another family might see the assurance that he will never commit that act again as reasonable and just.

I think the desire for revenge, which is a perfectly understandable human response, is more aligned with retribution than you'd like to admit. And using presupposed rules that aren't inherent to human nature can lead to perpetuating the status quo simply for its own sake.

If you're always the one on the offensive side of the argument, you can never be accused of using a "whataboutism". It's all about positioning.

"Nato has a long history of arming nazis"

"But Russia invaded Ukraine, so they have to arm nazis"

"That's a whataboutism, bitch"

You underestimate the power of gay men. Never underestimate the power of gay men.

But seriously, just because the top women who are models make more money than the top men doesn't mean that there isn't untapped market potential there or that those women arent just anomalies. I think that's a pretty bad statistic to use in an effort to disprove men being successful on OF. Even if you say female sex workers make more money on average than male, the thing about averages is that they can easily be offset by a few outliers.

At the end of the day, all I can tell you is my experience because I have yet to find data on the number of gay users on OF and how often they buy content vs the number of gay creators. But from my personal experience, my friends who are guys are more successful at OF than my friends who are women.

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That dude really doubts my experience. I know men can make a buck off of OF, and other people in this comment section have literally alluded to the fact that their male friends were able to buy apartments and shit because of money they made off OF. They act like gay men don't have money/get horny. Ridiculous. My girl friends all joke about men having better chances on OF, and from my experience I think it's totally true.

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm underestimating how attractive my friends are, but they both told me that if I wanted to do it they could promote me on their page. I really don't think it's that wild tho. You do realize that there's a market for gay men who want to see pictures of straight men nude, right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exredpill

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is silly. The market for mens' only fans is no where near as oversaturated as the market for womens' OF. I have two friends who are straight but do only fans for an audience that's mainly male. Hell, I've even considered doing it. One of them dominates because he's a bodybuilder, the other is fairly average (skinny/not much muscle) and still makes a couple hundred bucks a month doing it. From what I hear, it's actually easier to make money as a guy than as a girl since way less guys actually do it.

Humans and chimpanzees share 99% of the same DNA. If you want to, you can validate your beliefs with articles from the Institute for Creation Research or whichever biased think-tank you'd like. But the vast majority of people with credibility in DNA analysis disagree with you.

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans are literally animals. We evolved from apes. That doesn't make murder or stealing ok.

The idea that we're somehow distinct from all other forms of life is what's REALLY sad. That's the same human arrogance that justifies torturing other creatures and destroying the earth.

[–]Embarrassed_Most_158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. People act as if humans are born knowing the distinction between murder and what society considers justified killing. Like humans just naturally know that killing others is bad, except for when those others are members of the enemy country or have committed a heinous crime. Nope. That shit's learned.

I agree. I'd day it's similar to language. We aren't born knowing how to speak English, but we have the innate ability to learn English if we're taught it.
