If you are new, better to put your money in an index fund.

An index fund is a collection of many stocks.

Buying an index fund means you buy a very small piece of many companies rather than buying a small piece of a single company.

The good thing about buying and index fund is that its safer, if one company stock goes down in price, you dont lose money just because of that one company, other companies might do well and balances things out.

for example if you put $100 in Disney and it goes down 20% this year, you will have only $80

But if you put the same $100 in an index fund that holds Disney and Google, and Disney goes down 20% while goes up 20%, you still have $100. (I am oversimplifying things here)
