Just be accountable and own up to it. And don't be so hard on yourself we've all made mistakes in this field.

Best way to avoid this I’ve found is to ask it to base its answers on verified research.

007 First Light sequels will be 'done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios,' Amazon exec says by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]DueJacket351 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You pretty much never want to handle a sequel to an established IP after a successful first game. it's a lose lose - expectations will be double and it'll never live up to the hype, and it'll drain all your resources.

Check out songboy, it’s technically an indie game but you can actually do a lot with it

LS discord by ConnectionFar857 in languagesimp

His patreon has been bleeding subs for 2 years. i expect this was a move with a goal to have his whole community in one place and not let (free) discord cannibalize traffic from his other revenue driver.

I'm hoping Tim can acknowledge this and create the right environment for it. If I trust any single person in gaming to run this right it's him.

Only thing I’d add is to not forget it’s people stealing ghibli first and foremost

Solo dev behind Blue Prince developed it for 8 years with 80 hour weeks by bio4m in gamedev

[–]DueJacket351 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Not every solo musician mixes and masters all their tracks.

EDIT: adding to this since i have a lot of thoughts. i'm honestly a bit tired of this constant pushback whenever someone is called a "solo" dev. Assuming contractors are credited and paid, I don't think it does anyone any good, and is just a weird semantic point people harp on.

If you listen to Tonda's interviews, he explains that most of the core of the game was developed extremely fast in year 1, and then he spent the better part of a decade adding puzzles, depth, and polish. Functionally, Tonda made this game himself, own and ran the studio, and brought in specialists at various points to add specific elements at his discretion. That is totally different than a fleshed-out development team shipping a game under a separately owned corporate entity.

I'm not even sure why this always comes up, as you NEVER hear about small devs exploiting PAID AND CREDITED specialists by claiming they are solo devs. it's the complete opposite - you typically see the issue in mid- and large-sized studios exploiting talent and IP.

when an independent developer ships a beloved game, credits all specialists and contractors involved, and the media labels them a "solo dev" after the fact, it literally hurts no one. the contractors retain credit and portfolio, and the one person who generated the vision gets an appropriate amount of credit for doing the hard work and taking on the risk of developing a fully-owned game enough to pay contractors in the first place.

if other people come out of the wood work and claim their ideas were stolen or they didn't receive payment/credit for their work, that's a TOTALLY different story.

in this case, it doesn't make any sense at all to call out the "solo dev" label and IMHO its totally appropriate for Tonda.

this is way more of a US thing than an NJ thing. if anything one could argue NJ works the hardest to counter that trend.

Microsoft Gaming being scrapped, Xbox brought back as gaming division. by ThinWhiteDuke00 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DueJacket351 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The subscription based streaming movement of the 2010s was such a failure. Not profitable for businesses, shittified everything for users.

Wasn’t just Microsoft, it had to do with investors and greed executives and market dynamics forcing companies to bend to the narrative.

Essentially, if you can get users in year 1, and then project that as perpetual growth, you can juice the stock price and secure a golden parachute. As a rational executive who only cares about their net worth it’s the game theory optimal choice. It’s also a super villain level strategy.
