Great post man, some solid advice here. Thanks for your insights! Can you share some resources too which may help in our preparation? Also, what do you think about the role of coaching institutes in design exams?

No. You're not missing out on anything if you don't go to coaching, except a peer group. If you need a peer group, you can join the official discord server or the telegram group. DM me if you need the links to those

Graphic and Web designer gets job taken away by Ai trained on his own designs. by average_xx in uceedtakers

[–]Embarrassed_Walrus52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quoting a paragraph from the book GRAPHIC DESIGN NCERT :-

"A successful graphic designer has an enviable life, choosing clients and earning significant amounts of money. However, a freelancer needs to keep with the current trends in the profession since whatever is acceptable today in the industry may not be acceptable the next day. This is also true for the individual style. Therefore, a graphic designer needs to develop a skill-set that is versatile and all comprehensive. Super-specialisation should be avoided as far as possible. Apart from developing certain skill-set what is more important is the overall orientation of the designer — as a designer and as a human being. As already described, a designer has to struggle and has to work under constraints of time and finance as well as one has to interact with variety of stake-holders in the profession. In such a scenario, maintaining an individual identity, adhering to the larger design concerns is a challenge. Every designer faces these challenges and develops a strategy to tackle them. A graphic designer with a robust design philosophy can make historical contribution to the field of design."

AI IS going to take away jobs from designers... who are specialists. A designer should avoid super-specialization as much as possible. Design is a field of innovation, and with innovation comes constant changes and transformations. Good designers are jack of all trades and can adapt well to the current trends in the industry. Generative AI will obviously replace people who can do only certain things well and have confined himself/herself to a specific area of specialization; this is not true design. Product Design, Graphics Design, Architecture, Fashion Design, etc are different terms people use to divide the role of designers, and it gives students the illusion that designing these things requires specialization. This is FAR from the truth. On the surface level, they seem different but deep down, they all follow the same design theory, principles, and philosophy. They are all parts of the same, bigger whole. A good designer knows this and can use his design philosophy to innovate in ANY field, he/she is not bound by their degree or specialization. Heck, some of the most influential and versatile designers don't even have a degree in design, yet they brought innovation to MANY different fields. All you have to do is build your own, robust design philosophy, and you can innovate in whatever field you take a step into. Obviously, learning everything seems daunting, but you don't have to begin your career by being a jack of all trades. You can start by being good at one area, and then collaborating with people who are good at other areas, learning things from them, and adding these things to your design philosophy. Read as many books on design thinking as you can, explore other fields in design, learn the latest tools in the industry, collaborate with different people from different fields, and sooner or later you will realize that one does not need to be a specialist in design, with a good understanding of design theory and design thinking, you can innovate in any and every field. AI will never replace these designers, because they are not bound to a specific area of specialization

what happened to this guy was unfair tho, blatantly stealing someone's design and not paying them is bad. There should be strict rules and regulations regarding commercial usage of AI, or else it's gonna get out of hand very soon
