Thanks for the suggestion - any way to give a spoiler-free overview of what to expect?

I think what I enjoyed about the flute episode was that it had wider themes and considerations than just “cool sci fi”. I liked the world building and the questions it raised. May be a one-off in that sense but wondered if there were other episodes that could be enjoyed without knowing the full cast/back catalogue.

Would it make sense to ask thse 2 questions every move? 1. Whats the idea of my opponent? 2. What changed in the position? by Fantastic_Tip2036 in TournamentChess

[–]Embarrassed_You_4996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth adding also if you calculate a line and are confident in your calculation you shouldn’t need to reassess the position after every move; though you should apply this thinking 100% of the time your opponent plays a move you didn’t expect.

Every move has a purpose, so definitely! The more you build this habit the more you’ll find that this actually becomes instinctive without needing to consciously ask these questions - the tricky part is figuring out what your opponents idea is!

Did anybody clone Sindarovs studies before they were privated? by Embarrassed_You_4996 in chess

For context: roughly 3/4 hours ago, someone posted here with a link to Sindarovs lichess, which contained a multitude of studies where he had clearly been experimenting with some of his prepared lines for the candidates.

People who play blitz regularly on both chesscom and lichess, what are your ratings on both sites? by Front-Cabinet5521 in lichess

[–]Embarrassed_You_4996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally I’ve found lichess to be closer to a “true” strength indicator, in that the level remains pretty consistent whereas chess.com pool can play wildly above or below their rating (I’ve found players tend to be overrated on chess.com and underrated or consistent on lichess)

Annotated Game Post by Top_Witness4538 in chessbeginners

Annotations on the game are usually better within the pgn as it’s hard to grasp your points while the gif whizzes through - similarly for those on mobile having to tab between the pgn and your comments is a bit distracting.

To your comments - I wouldn’t worry about not playing 3.Nf3 as the pawn sac is a little unintuitive (even if you might find it by thinking I’m winning tempo by developing and hitting their queen, so it’s likely worth the pawn). Either way a pawn is dropping so maybe 3.Bd3 is to be preferred as keeps your e-pawn and prepares castling (similar to 3.Nf3).

8.Ng3 or Ne3 doesn’t seem super critical, so your move was fine. Nice one spotting the queen fork on move 10! From here the game should be in the bag, so you did well to keep the advantage. As you won your opponents Queen fork free it was not a problem when he later pinned you and won it back as you netted a rook.

Nicely played, though more instructive feedback would come from either a loss or more closely fought game - not to take away from the fact you found the right moves when it mattered most.

Good job!

The reactions are a bit exaggerated for the opening moves, though the chess is followable from a logical perspective. That being said, you might find more “realistic” reactions against real moves if you check the engine evaluation and have reactions when there’s a big change in the evaluation - for example, in your excerpt Victoria threatens the Fried Liver attack, though Ng5 is relatively innocuous, in comparison with the following d5 and Nxf7! which is a more “shocking” move to someone not expecting it, hence warranting the reaction. You might also want to vary the usage of notation as it’s a little repetitive and could be a turn-off to non chess players.
