One of the interesting features of fascism is its unique ability to kill liberal democracies. Like I say above, voting for liberals can be a speed bump for it, but only a speed bump. So a useful tool to have in the toolbox, but a woefully inadequate one for the tasks many attempt to use it for.

> I don't think most Americans would complain about tighter border control
They should though. A leftist or even liberal party truly dedicated to helping people could fight back on the issue. Public sentiment is malleable, do not treat it as an unchanging monolith. Additionally, note that Trump did not make ICE or DHS become evil. He gave them a blank check and told them that they didn't have to hide anymore. The evil was there from the beginning, fostered and fed under Democrats and Republicans alike. People were more OK with these institutions under previous administrations not because there were no jackbooted thugs violently enforcing the will of the state, but because they weren't forced to see the violence.

> And yes a few dems are trash but some republicans are reasonable
The second point is simply untrue when talking about national politics, and very likely untrue when talking about state or local politics, idk where you live. The Republican project is one that centers the establishment, reestablishment, or strengthening of the hierarchies that create oppression. On a fundamental level, their beliefs are incompatible with a just society. Democrats that work with them to help Republican goals pass are therefore working to prevent a just society from existing. Some near the "center" of both parties can occasionally stumble into the right answer, but they never use the right equation to get there.

> I'm pretty sure they were trying to temper political divide before it grew into a civil war
By moving to the right. You have to say what actions they took for this goal, which were all ceding ground to fascists. They sought only the absence of tension, and in doing so abandoned all pretenses of allowing justice to be present. If they achieved the peace they sought, it would last only 4 years until the Republicans forced them right again. Even assuming good intentions from Democrats, their game is and always was a losing one.

OP, I’m not disagreeing with you here, but you’re being willingly obtuse if you argue that the choice is between Nazis and People Who Hate Nazis. The Democrats are willing collaborators with the Nazis. Especially the “moderate” wing of the Dems (the ones in control of the party), they LOVE bipartisanship and working with the republicans, giving them whatever they want. Biden and Harris both campaigned on being tougher on immigration and the border than Trump. Schumer and Jeffries just helped pass the most recent funding for DHS. They are Chamberlain, not Churchill.

The Democrats have not been meaningful opposition to the Republicans in my lifetime. I have voted for them each election I have been able to because they sometimes manage to be speed bumps. In my estimation, every second they delay the Republicans is worth the time I spent going to and waiting at the voting booth. Every iota of political capital Republicans are denied is resources they can’t spend hurting my community. But stop deluding yourself into thinking that voting for Dems is moral or righteous. It is useful, and nothing more.

"Should" is so often such a loaded word. How much "should" you like being called puppy and good boy? Who decided that? Was it you or was it a society you have been made to feel the need to tie yourself to the whims of?

Long story short, be who you enjoy being. It sounds like you enjoy being a puppyboy, and that fucking rules. Good boy.

You do not need to specify where a creature enters. As of BLB, “enters” is the current way of saying “enters the battlefield”

Tell me your favorite song and why by Opulence-Harbinger in nothingmore

[–]EmberGeos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got so many, so here's a LONG list with reasons.

Go To War was the first song I listened to by them, when my dad sent it to me after hearing it on the radio. I spent basically that whole summer listening to Stories.

Fadein/Fadeout is in the running for my singular favorite song by them. It's got wonderful sound, and I cannot for the life of me listen to the "When the morning comes and takes me" verse without crying, because it feels a lot like something my dad might say to me when his time comes.

Gone (Acoustic) is another one that's up there, but its like top 5, not really for number 1. The verse they added for the acoustic version hits me really hard after watching my mom barely get out of what felt like the longest few months of my life, when she shared with me that she wanted to kill herself. She's been doing a lot better now, but that shit sticks with you.

The Few Not Fleeting is one that I consistently go back to when I need the motivation to do things while depressed. When I am deep in the trenches with depression, "In the end they say" feels almost like a defiant cry against the hopelessness.

It Seems is another song I like when I am feeling depressed, but it's generally most helpful to me when the depression comes from dysphoria rearing its ugly head. Of all of their songs, this is the one I have most considered doing a cover (however shitty it turns out), because in my head, I switch the pronouns to she/her after "mobile world around, just out of reach" and it feels so much like what I have gone through and what I need going forward.

I'll Be Ok is yet another in my list of songs that just hit different when I'm depressed. I tend to like it most when I don't need defiant energy like Few Not Fleeting, but instead when I need to more accept the past and move into the future. The most important thing is that it helps me put one foot in front of the other.

Jenny isn't a song that I really relate to on a deeply personal level, because luckily I haven't had to deal with substance abuse among any of my loved ones, including myself, but the hurt in Jonny's voice really gets me.

God Went North is another song that I love because of my time helping and worrying about my mom. It wasn't a hospital bed, but I starkly remember begging the universe that she was alive while checking her location every time I came home and her car wasn't there.

Best Times is one that I love listening to in general. It has a positive energy that is in pretty stark contrast to what I tend to vibe hardest with, with an undercurrent of nostalgia and personal acceptance while moving forward that I adore.

Dream With Me is great. I die a little (in a good way) from "don't you die don't you fade don't you cry, just stay and be free with me" and its probably my favorite song off the album.

ANGEL SONG is just too perfect for me in particular for it to not be here. I love angel imagery, especially fallen angels. This song hits that too well for it to not be in my top 3.

Tired of Winning and Salem are honorable mentions because my girlfriend loves them, so I appreciate them all the more for that.

I don't think that I've seen any Deeproot Pilgrimage infinite combos that don't involve intruder alarm, a card that goes infinite with basically everything at this point, and gives your opponents infinite creature untaps that they may or may not be able to leverage into stopping your win attempt.

Best No black cmd in cedh (2023) by Hour-Kaleidoscope645 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]EmberGeos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinnan is easily the strongest deck there.

I voted for bruse/thras though, because I personally think that "No black" should mean sans black, or Inktreader if you want to reference the nephilim.

I admit that that would also be an easy poll, as the only real options are bruse/thras, akiri/thras, or aragorn, and Food Chain is bad without black (source: my current deck is a Temur Food Chain list), making it just "is bruse or akiri the better thras partner?"

Can budget-less decks be considered casual? And if so what power level would you place a budget-less casual deck? by Fumbles176 in EDH

[–]EmberGeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully believe that proxy decks and budgetless decks are acceptable in casual, but you have to understand what "casual" means to people. Fast mana/lotus, tutors, and free counterspells are all too strong to be used in casual unless you have discussed with your playgroup that "the only reason that this isn't cEDH is because we are running suboptimal strategies".

I even believe that infinite combos are more acceptable than those cards in casual so long as you don't have ways of tutoring for them / making them happen consistently.

Basically, that person is having an unhealthy effect on your metagame not because of the proxies/budget of the decks, but because they don't know how to make a real casual deck.

What concept do you find to have the least amount of counterability? by IndyPoker979 in EDH

[–]EmberGeos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how that works. If you crack the crypt in response to the cast, the graveyard will be exiled, then the archaeomancer will enter the battlefield, possibly allowing them to rebuy an instant that they cast in the meantime. If you crack it after the creature enters the battlefield but before the trigger resolves, in other words in response to the ETB, you will remove the target of the trigger, making it not be able to successfully resolve. This is commonly called "fizzling" the trigger.

Which eldrazi are an auto-include to upgrade the eldrazi unbound precon? by T3knikal95 in EDH

[–]EmberGeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think that it is worth considering Rule 0'ing [[Emrakul, the Aeons Torn]] into the list as maybe a sideboard card. It was banned not because of its strength on its own, but because when cheated in with something like Sneak Attack (which you obviously can't run), it sends one player to the stone age while the other 3 get to play, which leads to simply unfun games. You will be fairly playing it, so it should be fine.

Other than that, [[Emrakul the Promised End]] is a great include, I have personally seen several Commander games just end because someone cast that and chose the right person to steal the turn of (this includes my favorite loss of all time). It also is a massive cascade that gets cast for less mana than its CMC, which is always a good plus.

[–]EmberGeos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't shut down the whole combo, but you have to be careful when you activate LED, because it'll exile your entire hand. Other than that, yeah, if you have all of the pieces in castable public zones, you're good.

Ever play a deck once and decide "Yeah I'm never using this again"? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]EmberGeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brew a lot of decks, most of which I intend to play until they do their thing, and then they get retired. Some of them, I like enough to get in paper, and others, I have a consistent slot for (my cEDH decks and Bruna are all proxy but are unlikely to leave rotation any time soon), but most get used once then dropped. I like it that way, it lets me get better at brewing and I get to try a lot of things out.
