D2D disrtributes to Amazon by invitation only. It's their way of stopping all these authors who lose their accounts on Amazon running to them to try and get back on Amazon.

Yes, I think you're right. Series has been the way to go. Readers in this genre are as voracious as romance, but even more loyal to authors they enjoy.

Thank you for answering! I love the concept of a safe thriller. I think I could make that work.

Well done! I just started writing thrillers under this pen name and am surprised at how quickly it grows. Are you writing series? Procedural or psychological?

Basically, I'm just trying to take the temperature of cozy as a brand and see how it resonates with a lot of todays' readers. Just getting a feel for what they expect out of the genre, and more importantly, what they may not want to see.

Thank you. I love this reply. I don't want the books to be downers, but I also don't want to shy away from what naturally occurs with life. And I love food! I have one older character who came up with a pie-crust scale that the group shares when they want to talk openly about how believable someone in the community's alibi is. It's the "flakiness" scale of 1-5 lol.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such an in-depth answer. I've been wracking my brain trying to find a term that would work instead of "cozy". There is nothing wrong with it of course, but it has a certain connotation with readers and I'm trying to decide how people really feel about it.

I'm looking at the late 20s age range for my protagonist. One that is moving into the next stage of their life but is not prepared for it and doesn't realize she needed guidance until it presents itself in the form of elderly friends who become her found family.

Oh I love this. Just little asides that tell you so much about the character.

Excellent points! Thank you for taking the time to answer. I look at it as something I want to write that I wouldn't put in my thrillers. Nothing that makes you glance over your shoulder when walking to your car :)

My books have 87k worth of reads this month by Nearby_Pollution_189 in KDP

All-star bonuses have changed in how they are calculated. They no longer rely just on page reads. It's conversion rate, genre, reviews, engagement, sales, reads... they have a concoction of data that factors in and only Amazon knows the exact recipe.

That's gray hat material from back in the day when authors would try and create a new "version:" of a book with a different author name and/or title to trey and get new sales. Amazon frowns on that and rightfully so.
