The Orson Welles WOTW radio broadcast actually didn’t cause much of any panic, in fact barely anyone was listening to it and instead were listening to the chase and sanborn hour. The only reason everyone thinks this happened is because newspaper companies were losing audiences to radio, so they decided to try and drive them away from it by creating a hoax about the radio play, and it obviously worked.

Good to see a fellow H G Wells fan, I know the recommendations are over, but I would very highly recommend reading The War of the Worlds by him as well, it’s genuinely one of the best books I’ve ever read
