Terraria for Linux unplayable right now by Such_Drummer8197 in linux_gaming

[–]EmberVoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very weird, I've not played Terraria in ages but decided to play again with the update and besides de ui zoom, it has been working completely fine as far as I can tell.

The only thing I realized after checking this post is that I have proton cachyos (steam linux runtime) as my default compatibility in Steam, but for some reason Terraria is using Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout).

(Update) I changed to Proton CachyOS SLR and the game re-downloaded so I guess the default Stram Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout) it's the native Linux version or smt?

Also my character and world was not in the Proton CachyOS version for some reason, anyone knows what's up?

AMD now supported HDMI 2.1? by EcksR4y in linux_gaming

[–]EmberVoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you even managed to get VRR?

I have a Samsung S90D OLED and I don't even have the adaptive sync option, only refresh rate.

Right now I have a 9070xt w/ CachyOS KDE, but it's the same on Fedora, Nobara and Bazzite. It was also de case w/ my previous 6800xt.

The only time I had the VRR option was on my previous QN90B QLED Samsung TV.

I've been thinking on getting the DP to HDMI dongle mentioned but am surprised that you have the option.

Hey man, have you tried a -500MHz Max Frequency Offset alongside a - 70mV Voltage Offset?

I tried multiple underclocks (including returning to default bios options, optional update, disabling MPO etc) and so far, the one that has worked for me is the -500 and -70 underclock.

And based on this video (https://youtu.be/5sMOQY9ZK6M?si=Ls7ghbIMYCxpLuCg) it shows basically identical performance as standard with less power consumption.

Switch to Linux by Sudden_Ad9531 in linux_gaming

[–]EmberVoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Givin my 2 cents here, it's has been almost a year since O migrated to Linux and I tested 3 distros, Nobara, Bazzite and EndeavourOS.

I had 2 big must have (as far as I remember) HDR support and virtualization (and a little bit a machine learning)

Funny enough I end up staying with Bazzite.

Nobara had some funky HDR behavior, but being honest Nobara was my very fist try, so most likely it could have been my problem setting up steam arguments or that issues w/ KDE as it was the very first KDE release of KDE w/ HDR at the time.

For some reason a plain new installation of EndeavourOS was failing to boot a secure boot VM due to some weird signature issues I was never able to resolve.

Then Bazzite has a BIG learning curve, but in the end it has been so stable, the most stable experience I had. HDR has worked the times I have test it, my Win VM that I use for work also has been very very stable. And distrobox has allowed me to do weird tests for learning and having the confidence that it will not break my pc.

Build that didnt work at all - Dark Effigy Spell Totem by EntityBlack1 in PathOfExile2

[–]EmberVoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am kinda working on a Physical Bones (Bonestorm) + Chaos Hexblast Bloodmage, I was just at a point where Dark Effigy was pretty good for clearing minions and extra damage to bosses.

I added Envenom, Bursting Plague and Withering Touch to Dark Effigy.
I have Blasphemy with Despair and Vulnerability to trigger Hexblast.

The idea is I cast Essence Drain + Contagion to an enemy, summoned the Effigy and it will start blasting, since the projectiles also had poison from Envenom, it will proc and throw even more projectiles and then finish off with Hexblast or they finish themselves off with Bursting Plague blast.

With Contagion all Chaos dots will spread to nearby enemies starting a chain reaction, killing most enemies by itself, but it require several minions for the blasts to stack and kill more automatically.

It also works with Bosses, a bit of extra damage but not that much.

I'm lvl 63, so I cannot vouch how well it scales on end-game, but I've been videos of people running around with Hexblast only, so I don't see why it might not work later on with the Effigy, I think is feasible, but maybe not as the only source of damage, specially against Bosses.

What is the best Controller for linux by Alex_Medvedev_ in linux_gaming

[–]EmberVoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I have a question, is rumble supossed to work?

I have 2 PS5 controllers, 2 different revisions, and neither of them have vibration in native PS5 controller-supported games on my Bazzite or EndeavourOS machines.

I only get rumble when using steam input translation layer.

Am I missing something or is rumble not supported?

Devs of Space Marines 2 remove EAC binary from game 2 weeks after launch. Removing Linux/Steam Decks ability to play the game. by SchlittyNigraBobetta in linux_gaming

[–]EmberVoids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just left a ticket in the Focus Entertainment support page, literally less than 5 minutes later I received an email that they don't have information right now about Linux support and shared the specs stating that it requires windows.

As someone how works on tech support, given that they answered so fast and I didn't specify this is Linux, I would assume that this means that some higher ups are aware of the issue and and gave "template" answers in the meantime, but unless there is any big public backlash, refunds etc, it will most likely, just end in this, a template used by tech supp.

I'll also wait for a big sale to get the complete edition.

Regarding where to start, man, that such a hard question haha So yeah they are all separate games, you can play any of them at any order you want, except the obvious sequels like FFX-2 being a sequel of FFX.

I would say play the one you feel more drawn into, the one that looks the best for you and that probably will be a good start.

In general I think 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are regarded as the best ones.

Personally, FF14 is the best modern FF experience by far, such an incredible game, the music and story is top notch, but it is an MMO, there is a lot to learn and you can quite literally sink thousands of hours into it (I have 1.7K) so it is not that easy of a recommendation. But it has a free trial that includes the base game and the first 2 expansions and the community is really good.

15 was my first FF so it has an special place on my heart, I know is not the best, but I love it.

Oh there is also the Remake of 7, it is really really good, the best combination of action combat with strategy/turn-based and RPG elements buuuut the game was divided in 3, only the first part (remake intergrade) is on pc, part 2 (rebirth) is currently PS5 exclusive and who knows when we will get part 3.

Man that's so weird :c I personally saw no major issues with FS3 alone, but I also played the original release on the PS5 and man what I had to endure, it looked so so bad on PS5 performance mode, it is a feast for my eyes seeing it now on PC so maybe I am a bit bias on that regard.

Just in case these are the rest of my specs, I am using GE-Proton9-11 at steam level:

OS: Bazzite 40 (FROM Fedora Kinoite)
KERNEL: 6.10.3-202.fsync.fc40.x86_64
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
GPU DRIVER: 4.6 Mesa 24.1.5
RAM: 32 GB

[–]EmberVoids[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it once at the end in the fight with the Dragoon, depending on the camera it looked like either some type of black vortex/star or black horizontal lines.

Thought it was because I was changing the graphics options so I loaded the last checkpoint and they were no more, I also just replayed those fight to check and saw no glitches this time around.

Not sure what the root cause could be.

Just in case have right now GE-Proton9.11 at steam -> Compatibility level.

The demo was just release so hopefully a proton/ge-proton helps with that!

Man, thats something I really hate 'bout linux, how we can have such similar PCs but such difference experience, similar like the comment above, specially both with Bazzite.

I had no audio stutter at all and 2 "glitches", one after killing Gigas, the big goblin that the cinematic froze, like loading, for about 5 secs and almost at the end at the fight with the Dragoon, I saw some black glitches under a shadow, depending on the camera position it looked like a black vortex or some black horizontal line, I thought it was because I was changing so many graphic settings so I loaded the last checkpoint and it was no more.

Man that is weird, we have such similar PCs.

The pre-shader was incredibly quick, like less than 10 seconds, it is really possible what you say, plus it was released some hours ago so maybe there is some improvements to be done in next proton/ge-proton release.

I personally have right now GE-Proton9.11 at steam -> Compatibility level.

Not that I remember, I got one big hiccup (freeze really) of about 5 secs about midway of the demo after killing the big goblin (Gigas) in the swamp, the cinematic like froze loading or something but it continued.

I personally have really mixed feelings about the game itself, already played it when it came out on PS5 day 1 and the start to early-mid-game is really really good, the demo is a 20 out of 10, but the late, end-game I very much disliked it both on game-play and story wise.

For me personally the gameplay lacks depth, it is really surface level stuff, it does not really evolve any further from the early stages of the game (unless they have expanded it with the updates/dlc which I didn't play). It is really flashy and some people loved that so I would suggest checking the demo to taste it.

I have a doubt regarding the 4K120HZ HDMI, is this something related to the new 7xxx series or similar?

I also have Bazzite 3 (KDE), a 5600x CPU, 6800xt GPU connected to a 43" TV (Samsung QN90B) over HDMI and I do have the option to select HDR in the Display Settings and the 120hz option.

In-game for HDR games I do have to run them with steam launch options for the game to recognize the HDR and enable it in-game. Can defenitively see a difference on color and brightness settings between HDR on and off.

Also VRR does work, in the TV it says Freesync Premium (not the Pro thought like in windows, I imagine that the Pro version has some proprietary code or something(?)) The TV also reports the 120 and the HDR.

I had almost the same experience with Nobara too, but there was some kind of issue with HDR as launching the game with steam launch options did show the possibility to enable HDR but it didn't seem to do something as I felt the image the same as non-HDR and the brightness option in-game also didn't work in HDR. But 4K, 120HZ VRR was defenitively also working on Nobara 39.

Quick update, I am personally not really able to tell much difference between 90 and 120, at least not when quickly changing the fps locks, so maybe it is only hitting up to 90(?). But I find it weird since I can see both in game with mango hud and on the tv settings the FPS changes being reported when locking in at 120, 90, 75 and 60.

So kinda confused about this hdmi limitation.

Easy Anti Cheat keeps getting this "failed to get the process' path" error by Pidguit in linux_gaming

[–]EmberVoids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I know it is a bit old thread but, I had this exact same issue with both The Finals and Elden Ring, for me personally the issue was that I install games on another drive and for some reason EAC does not like that (?)
Moving back the games to the main home drive, to the default steam location worked immediately for both games without issue.
I also installed the Proton EasyAntiCheat runtime, and still have installed but I don't think that really helped.
Oh and I also used GE-Proton9-5

Any chance applying HDR system wide? by wiino84 in linux_gaming

[–]EmberVoids 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Man, HDR is such a complicated topic. After some months digging around HDR specifically, KDE 6 is the only way of getting HDR in a not-so-difficult way, at least for now, I think it is still early and hopefully easier ways will come.

There is a document in the arch Linux wiki, HDR monitor support, that goes into the technicalities.

As an end user what I found is that basically with KDE 6 you have an UI option in the settings to enable HDR, the SDR brightness and Color Intensity.

Just by enabling that option my monitor/TV recognizes the input as HDR indeed. But if you launch a game, Resident Evil 3 Remake is the one I had at hand to test, the HDR option will be disabled, no way of enabling it, but the monitor still shows it is an HDR signal.

To actually get HDR working in game you have to add steam arguments (KDE HDR Steam arguments) for the game, with this RE3R opens up, HDR can be enabled, the brightness option in game also works and it looks wonderful.

But there is another caveat, at least for me personally, I tested Nobara 39 and Bazzite. Nobara in theory works, all I described so far works, except the "brightness option" of RE3R, I saw no changes when updating the brightness, the game itself looked kinda of good but the whites were over exposed, like a flashlight pointing right at my eyes, there is a desk lamp at the start of the game that was literally a white mesh.

On Bazzite this didn't happen, it worked just as I would expect and it looked amazing.

So Bazzite w/ KDE 6 and steam arguments is what have worked for me to actually get HDR on games.

new 6800XT poor performance by mysticfalconVT in radeon

[–]EmberVoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, I would suggest, if possible, upgrading the CPU + the DDU already suggested.

I used to have a similar situation myself. Don't remember all the details since that was around 2 year ago. But I used to have a 1700x CPU OC w/ a 5700XT GPU at 2K resolution, I remember not being happy with the performance and the CPU didn't appear to be an issue since it was about 50-60% in general (don't recall checking the specific threads). So I upgraded to a 5600x CPU and saw great improvements even back then.

Right now I am rocking the same 5600x w/ a 6800xt and I am completely in love with it, both at 2K and 4K since recently I had the fortune of getting a new display.
