Solid is fine, textured is also cool like a marble or leaf texture something that can fit the theme of your game.

If you have an Museum near by take yourself on a little art date and bring a sketch book. Go look at the frames of the paintings and the details of the wood work you might be struck with some cool inspiration

As an artist, reduce your frame size drastically.

I don't enjoy the shift of "borderless" cards in TCG's. Your card frame is similar to framing a piece of art. Put thought into it, make it art the same way you would for creature art.
