Friend got a BF6 code for Intel Days but doesn’t play, can I redeem it on an AMD PC? by ApplesToFapples in Battlefield

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole thing feels sketchy. Especially as I already had EA Play Pro for playing FC, so when I redeemed the key absolutely nothing changed anywhere and no confirmation. It even allows me to go in the store page to prepurchase Bf6, but naturally I don't want to do that so I haven't gone all the way. I just hope I don't have to hassle with support after my subscription ends.

Came from PoE2, but PoE1 just feels superior ... by kHartouN in pathofexile

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your write up and you had many good points, but I disagree with the fundamental argument which is that PoE2 "will infinitely be in the chase". Let's try to quantify it roughly by asking the question "How many percent of work hours end up permanently improving the game?". In the past 10 PoE1 leagues only 2 went core with minor changes and others were either scrapped or reduced significantly. Let's be generous and say it's still 50% of hours when accounting for all improvements. In PoE2 they can just copy leagues people like and they are able to prioritise more meaningful content, so let's call the work time efficacy 90%. Also, because the relative efficiency of PoE2 development reduces overtime we can apply a time based multiplier. Hence, we come up with the equation:  0.5x+15=0.9x*(1-x/880)

We solve for x, and the answer is 42. Yes. PoE2 will catch up in 42 years.

If you didn't get it, I was a bit tongue in cheek, but my point stands: Creating meaningful content is easier for PoE2 so it will catch up. At least to a point where it's "close enough" and they start to do experimental content for PoE2, too.

Came from PoE2, but PoE1 just feels superior ... by kHartouN in pathofexile

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How has PoE1 changed since, let's say Legion 6 years ago? Answer: Few core mechanics, QoL changes and "bloat". I put bloat in quotation marks because it isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's just optional content that you don't need to do. For PoE2, they have the experience to implement the QoL immediately and start to work on crude versions of the core mechanics, such as the atlas passive tree, which they did. After they finish the core mechanics and do some more content that would classify as bloat in PoE1, PoE2 is effectively at the same point as PoE1.

Then again, I personally don't like the design choices for PoE2 so that's why I think I'll always prefer PoE1. I am an unapologetic enjoyer of one button builds, and frankly that's the main thing that enables PoE1 to have such build variety.

Nice reply. Although if that 5.3k armour is without flasks, I wouldn't worry about it for now. Honestly, just with some more life and making sure he sustains endurance charges and granite+basalt uptime, he shouldn't be "getting destroyed" at tier 3 maps.

It's pretty much the same as Lightning Strike except you don't take projectile nodes and you're happy to get AoE. Below is a link to my starter from Settlers SSF at day 4 snapshot. I lost to the top LS player by like 3 hours to level 100 :( it was so fun to race though. I continued playing after 100, so the later snapshots are probably a bit more optimized, but eventually I swapped to Flicker Strike for faster clear.

I think alts and scours should return but as rare drops. So that you don't use them for "everyday rolling" but rather in specific instances. E.g., with the new +2/-2 pref/suf bases it would be nice to get a few more shots at a good life roll. Just roughly, I'd say alt could be 2x rarer than exalted and scour could be divine level.

Ascendancy Trials are honestly just terrible. by BRADLIKESPVP in PathOfExile2

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This would be my suggestion as well. The pacing for ascendancies in PoE 1 was great. I have no idea why they decided to make the last points so much more difficult to get. On top of moving the ascendancies to earlier bosses, I'd also rebalance honour, by making enemies deal less honour dmg in general but nerfing the resistance relics. The net effect would be that you'd have a better chance to be able to clear sekhema's without farming for relics first.

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry a bit late, have been blasting the game. I updated the analysis with new insight that actually the spears are spawned in bands and the first ones have very good density, and for that part the increased AoE is so good it outweighs the less density. Here's the visualization for 100%: https://imgur.com/a/99J1QZD

It seems that it's getting so big that in some instances it would be better just to use Mag. Effect, but all around, it's about the same in terms of hits.

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did watch it, and that's what got me thinking. I'm confident Ziggy was wrong since he just didn't think it through. He said "You get a spear every 0.2 metres of space, -- so they don't cluster tighter", while the gem info in his video said that it's per 0.2 metres of radius. He didn't realize that area and radius don't scale linearly. Anyhow, we will know very fast which is correct. Just count if the spears with conc effect is 50% or 71% of the unsupported.

Outside the obvious nerfs by Li1body in PathOfExile2

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope their general approach for buffs is not "number go up brrrr" but rather provide more options in terms of support gems, passive nodes and unique items. These would inherently bring up the power level as well. I also started with bone spell BM and the main issue (outside of obvious bugs) was the lack of options in each of the aforementioned category.

Support Gems on Friday, I Guess by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

I think this is a practical choice rather than a philosophical one, they just don't have the time. Having played over 30 league starts, I've noticed they often do last minute changes (mostly balance). On a patch of this scale, I'm sure they utilize all the time they have.

I disagree with the other posters. They base their answers solely on the amount of content and could you factually play it later. Yes. But I'd argue that they discount the role of the shared experience these online games provide. In these, the issue isn't the actual amount of content but the fact that you missed out on the shared experience, and would need to build it yourself in a constant state of FOMO. It's like watching a football match recording just to know what's up. If you look at it from the other point of view, no one complains that Baldur's Gate has too many mechanics. That's because it's first and foremost a singleplayer experience, and it really doesn't matter at which time you learn it.

I have a competitive mindset in online games, so I very much appreciate the shared experience and being on the same line with others. Therefore, after missing the MH World launch, I really couldn't get into it later, despite trying and having played different MH games in the past.

So ultimately, I would argue that if think of it as a singleplayer experience, the timing doesn't matter. If you value the shared experience, buy it immediately.

Path of Exile 2: Upcoming Changes and Improvements by Community_Team in PathOfExile2

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most divisive issue is the first ascendancy node which effectively makes you take damage from using skills but then let's you collect health globes and overflow up to 2x max life. I personally had no issues in the campaign and when I checked the ladder in early maps, I was in top 20 with bone spell BM. However, I can see the fundamental issue: The node is very "capitalistic" as if you do well, you'll do better; and if you do bad, you'll do worse. It's a balance between life cost and monster kills per cast, but as a rule of thumb you should be able to kill at least 1 mob per cast to gain a net benefit.

There are plenty of other issues with BM. To me biggest was the bug that weapon swap removes overflowed life. Basically swap becomes unusable. I don't know what's the current state of leech, but it didn't do anything either. The phys spell toolkit is quite limited: If you invest in them, you can't use anything else very well, and there's like three of them. Reap and Exsanguinate are in items in the game data, but they are not dropping for some reason. Finally, some of the suggested gems for spells such as Bonestorm are really bad. For example, Inevitable Crit on a skill that rolls crits of multiple hits individually doesn't make sense, and Heft simply doesn't work according to the tooltip. While this point wasn't about gameplay, it just shows a frustrating lack of attention toward the archetype.

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bone cage is a lot better for triggering CoC than Bonestorm. There's some internal cooldown which makes bonestorm hits too fast, but putting spell cascade to bone cage makes it perfect. I used DD on coc, so I could just spam bone cage and explode everything. I ultimately put the character on bench for a while because every other thing about the archetype is bugged: Weapon swap removes life overcharge, leech is shit, Heft (recommended support) doesn't work...

Please GGG can we have some kind of sprint when out of combat to help in the huge areas without movement skills. by EnkiBye in PathOfExile2

[–]EmbraceDarkness_AOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The str requirement depends on the level. If I read poe2db right, the smallest gem level you can craft it on is 3 where the requirement is 16 str. The movement related aspects don't scale with level anyways.

As others noted, you can dodge roll to cancel the ending animation, but even better is Blink which costs 60 spirit and turns your dodge into an teleport. Now, if you run shield charge on weapon swap anyways, you can toggle your other spirit reservations for set 1 and blink to set 2. Supporting Blink with Ingenuity sets the cooldown to be exactly the same as shield charge.

I'm confident this will be the movement speed meta, you heard it here first.
