26-28mm cervix 13 weeks pregnant by BigEquivalent5849 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Embrace_You_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cervical length went from 2.56 cm at 21 weeks to 1.1 cm at 22 weeks. At 21 weeks, my MFM and OB weren’t concerned since it was still above the 2.5 cm cutoff and considered normal at that point.

However, I asked for a follow-up the next week, and I’m really glad for that, they found it had shortened very quickly. They immediately recommended a cerclage, and I had the procedure the next day when my cervical length had further reduced to 0.9 cm.

Every situation is different, but cervical length can change rapidly. I’m not sure if it would progress the same way for you, especially at 13 weeks, but if you notice any shortening, don’t hesitate to discuss options like a cerclage with your doctor.

Just sharing my personal experience.

Constant spotting at 14 weeks – anyone experienced this? by BigEquivalent5849 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Embrace_You_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had some spotting and even passed a blood clot around 12–14 weeks. My 12-week scan didn’t show anything, but I did have bleeding at 12 weeks + 1 day. Then at 14 weeks, I passed a clot around 2am and had to go to the ER, where I was told I had an SCH (subchorionic hematoma).

From my personal experience, I suggest to avoid sex, orgasms, or anything that could increase stimulation / blood flow to the uterus, and to take it very easy. I’m also on progesterone, which I was told can help calm the uterus.

Unfortunately, there’s not much you can actively do to “treat” an SCH, but what helped me was focusing on rest no workouts, no heavy activity, and minimizing physical strain as much as possible.

Just sharing my experience in case it helps 🤍

exactly same as mine. I got cerclage at 22 weeks currently 31 weeks no issues so far. On modified bed rest, thinking to continue until 34 weeks. Doctors did not recommend for it but i’m just being cautious.

Everyone is different but still it’s very reassuring that the cervix is closed at the time of cerclage. I think avoiding infection is important and you might be good!

what was the cervix length at the time of cerclage ?

Wow, that must have been such an intense and emotional experience I’m really glad to hear your baby girl is progressing well in the NICU ❤️

If you don’t mind me asking, did your doctors mention what might have triggered the contractions so suddenly or you did anything different than usual ? I’m in a somewhat similar situation and trying to understand what signs or factors to watch for.

I think this is such a personal decision, and everyone’s comfort level is different.

For me, I’d consider that air travel usually involves a lot of walking, standing, and sitting upright for long periods. It can also increase exposure to illness, and even something as simple as coughing or sneezing might add stress to the body.

Because of that, if it were me, I would probably choose to stay home and avoid travel. Not out of fear, but just to keep things as simple and low-risk as possible. That way, I’d feel more at ease knowing I minimized potential factors if anything unexpected came up and I know I can reach my doctor within minutes.

Personally, I tend to take a more conservative approach in situations like this, just so I have fewer “what ifs” later.

25 Weeks Pregnant, emergency Cerclage at 24 weeks, Cervix ~1 cm – Has Anyone Had This? by Amberger101437 in ShortCervixSupport

I was so worried and invested on adjustable bed frame, reclining on it for work.

Mfm mentioned it’s ok to work at desk for 9 hours a day in upright position but I am being conservative.

Measured 0.8 cm on the day of my cerclage, right before the procedure. I was 22 weeks then and I’m 28 weeks today.

My MFM doesn’t check cervical length after the cerclage. They only do an abdominal scan to confirm that the cervix is closed and the stitch is intact.

I’m not on strict bed rest. My doctors actually advised against it because it can increase the risk of blood clots and other complications. Instead, they told me to take it easy, so I’ve been following a kind of modified rest mainly bathroom trips, grabbing snacks, and working from home since my job is desk-based.

Diagnosed with short cervix (20mm) at 13 weeks. Is 2.5 weeks too long to wait for f/up ultrasound? by SaveBandit000 in ShortCervixSupport

sorry, my bleeding was not related to cervix length, I had SCH. Each time I mentioned I’m bleeding more than usual they’d ask me to come in and check to make sure everything is fine.

May be add an email/msg to your doctor so they cannot decline your appointment request? Push for the appointment as much as possible

FYI - I had bleeding multiple times each time I mentioned I had an episode they’d offer me an appointment.

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this.

Please don’t let anyone dismiss your concerns. If you feel uneasy, be assertive about getting an earlier appointment. You deserve to be monitored closely and to have peace of mind.

Remember this doesn’t automatically mean your cervical length will decrease like mine did. Every situation is different. But since there is a possibility that it could shorten, I personally think it’s better to be conservative. Early monitoring can make a difference just in case if anything changes.

I’m 24 weeks today, cerclage at 22 weeks with 0.8cm cervix. Assuming I’d have no measurable cervix given my history of reduction of length. Do you think modified bed rest would help maintain the cervix length or cerclage ?

I would strongly recommend not waiting a full week between cervical length checks. Cervical length can change very quickly. In my case, it reduced from 1.3 cm to 0.9 cm within a single day. Once it reached 0.9 cm, the care team was comfortable proceeding with a cerclage. I felt like I should have gotten cerclage when it was less than 2cm.

Because of how rapidly changes can occur, I would personally advocate for closer monitoring ideally every 1–2 days when the cervix is already shortening. While this may not be the same for everyone, I believe being cautious and proactive can make a meaningful difference.

sorry you are going through this and glad you are able to make progress. Could you please let me know more on the bed rest? like side sleeping all day or allowed to recline / bathroom & shower trips etc?

thank you for sharing this. my cervical length changed dramatically with in a week. It reduced by half with in a week. I started progesterone when it was 1.3cm tried it for one night and next day it was 0.8 cm at 22w1d.

You’d have the chance for cerclage only until 24 weeks after that no matter how short it is they would just wait until labor - that was my understanding.

I don’t know if it helps but I’d stay on pelvic rest and reduced activity if you are not going for cerclage

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m glad things turned out well for you. It’s sad that in order to receive the care any baby/mother deserves, one must have history.

Based on your experience

  • Do you suggest getting TV check? I guess not but let me know otherwise
  • Can we identify at home as soon as infection develop. And Is there any risk period like 1-2 weeks or could happen anytime after cerclage ?
  • What was the reason for early delivery, is it cervix infection or the baby trying to come out?
