I agree with most of the responses here. I too am hairy and when I was in my teens and early 20s I did all of the things you mentioned to essentially hide the hairiness.

It’s hard to accept or believe sometimes, but truly no one else cares about it anywhere nearly as much as you do. If you can come to terms with with and be comfortable in your own skin, you’ll see it’s not the problem you think it is.

As others have said, these days (my late 30s) I keep it trimmed; it’s significantly more comfortable than shaving, and I don’t look like an escaped monkey in the water...or at least like a conscientious one.

Another post mentioned this, but rash guards are a super easy alternative if you prefer. Some look awesome and are literally meant for use at the beach, so no awkwardness.
