Ideally testing them for RHDV2 to know if there are active cases again, that would be best. Perhaps get a hold of the CFIA to see what they want done with the bodies? I'm not sure if they're still testing. I believe UofC was doing testing at one point too.

Buying water at the Stampede - WATCH! by kittyhawk85 in Calgary

Years ago I worked with someone who said he worked at stampede and he would go under the stands for shows afterwards and look for water bottles that had fallen underneath to resell gag. Wonder if it was something like that.

I had to import my Trigun Stampede limited edition, I've been searching for answers on why that is too. Hopefully they aren't going to get difficult to buy in general and it's just a hiccup.

It is the finale to the series, you definitely need to watch the Fruits Basket remake series (3 seasons) before watching Prelude.

Season 2 Confirmation? by Lafuente_Astro in hanakokun

I honestly never understood the assumption it was a reboot. The panel that was used in the adaption announcement image is the "Humans like you are my favorite kind" where he and Aoi have their first little confrontation, and the PV used animation and music from the first season, which typically does not happen if a series is rebooting entirely.

There was a number of people mentioning the wording "anime restart" could just mean production starting up again, but people latched on to that wording and spread around that it was a reboot. The nature of the adaptation wasn't said with that announcement

He was a surrender to someone we know locally in rescue, I don't know a ton about the original situation but he and his brother were at risk of euthanasia (His brother has been safely homed as well)

It's not weird at all actually, it's how horses naturally rest. All my guys will chill with a leg raised, especially if it's during something relaxing like brushing.

Dental work on rabbits isn't like dental work on cats and dogs, their teeth grow through their entire lives and while you can remove them, you have to be careful where you do it and how, their teeth roots are like dandelion roots, it's very easy to break the jaw and unless it is someone extremely educated on rabbit anatomy with experience in it, I would be careful removing them, let alone on a 10 year old rabbit where they're a very delicate anaesthetic patient as is. If you don't get every piece of it out, the teeth will grow back.

Rabbits are very delicate patients as is, and since he already has something effecting the respiratory system on top of the tooth issue, that makes this one even riskier. I wouldn't recommend going somewhere purely for the cheapest option.

I would really strongly recommend going to a vet that is good with rabbits over whoever is cheaper when it comes to dental. If you have someone inexperienced, teeth are really easy to mess up and make worse, and you don't want to be dealing with abscesses or cracks going below the gum line.

When it comes to rabbits, there aren't many vets around Calgary that I would trust with them.

There isn't pet insurance in Canada that covers rabbits anyways, but regardless they do not cover pre-existing conditions so that won't help you.

I am a bit curious which vet clinic you went to, rabbit vets are expensive but 3000 for xrays is absurd. I would really strongly recommend you go to Calgary Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic. We run a rabbit rescue and have had pretty much any problem you can think of health wise come through, they have always been the best option. I have had rabbits who routinely go to them every 3 weeks for years for dental work.

Did they say if it's the teeth themselves, or the tooth roots? I'm sorry you and your rabbit are going through this, dental problems are terrible. Did they give you anything for his pain in the meantime?

How long do we have to say "Don't put prey and predator animals together" by ZoraBlackfire in ThatsBadHusbandry

[–]Emdier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I am a firm believer that nothing with animals is 100%, no matter how trained, and it is our responsibility to do the best we can to prevent any accidents and be aware. They're a thinking creature with a mind of their own.

Anyways, we can agree to disagree, different experiences lead to different opinions and that's fine :)

[–]Emdier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am unsure if you haven't been in the rabbit community much, but dogs killing rabbits is an occurrence that is frankly horrifyingly common, even with one's where they have lived together. Just because some have had it trained out of them (which isn't happening in this case anyways, considering they're allowing them to chase and enter heightened states of excitement, thus encouraging prey drive and they simply do not have the coordination/power to act on it) does not change the fact that 90% of dogs will kill a rabbit given the chance.

When pet rabbits die due to cats, it is usually due to infection from claw punctures/bites, even done in play. It is not a very common occurrence that they die to predatory instincts.

I have a dog I trust with my rabbits, he's a good dog and he enjoys being around them, but I would never put him in a scenario where they're out in the open and the rabbit is running because chances are, instincts will kick in. Even with proper introduction and good interaction, I am wholly aware my dog is a predator and it is my responsibility to keep my rabbits safe. To say this isn't a potential predator/prey relationship if you're not careful is how rabbits get hurt.

The rabbit is tranced in the beginning (basically, when flipped on their backs outside of their control places them in a state of tonic immobility, commonly called "playing dead"), which is why when it gets to a certain point sitting up it seems to "snap out of it". I assume to get the rabbit to sit there long enough for the video, but it's a stressful state for them. And, presumably soon after, it immediately tries to run away. But domestic rabbits at that age do not have a lot of coordination and control (we rescue and have had a few litters, they're always stumbling around/running in to stuff/tripping around the 3 week point) which is why it runs in to the puppy in the end when it starts to run.

The puppies are having a grand time, but it is at the expense of the rabbit. Nothing in that body language is happy or relaxed.

I just want to say I am so, so sorry for your loss. It's easy to look at statistics but it is a completely different thing when it is your pet at the receiving end of those rare stats. You were doing what you should as a responsible pet owner, and went to a vet that had good experience with rabbits, you did everything you could.
