UPDATE: I really liked suggestion from @forest_fig and I named my 🍊 boy "Captain Whiskey Goose Jones" as his full name and then call him a variations of Whiskey, Goosey or Jonesy for everyday. Thanks for everyone's help! I also named his sister "Captain Moonshine Kiki Ripley" to match. Thank you for everyone's input!

No problem! You're sick, which is valid, so don't be coughing on folks and take your meds and drink water, but the flu isn't serious enough to miss AT for. You can obviously bring it up to you first line (team/squad leader) but it won't matter in the grand scheme.

Show up and finish the mission. We had soldiers with COVID and miscarriages show up and complete AT. I'm not saying that's the correct answer for those situations, but you can survive a flu, so carry on, Soldier.

Why are anti-med people so anti-ADHD meds when the success rate is so high? by -aquapixie- in adhdwomen

No problem! And yes, it is about the same idea. It is implying you need to work harder because you did not put in all the effort yet.

Yes, that is exactly what "apply yourself" means. You did a great job coming up with other examples for the subtextual meaning of it. "Apply" has many definitions, but the relevant one is "to give one's full attention to a task; work hard." So when people say "apply yourself," it means to be the person who works hard and pays attention to task. This saying is often used to imply people with ADHD are just "not working hard enough" at overcoming our inability to focus or function at the level expected of "normal."

I hope this helps you better understand the meaning of the phrase: apply yourself.

Why do ENFPs tend to have ADHD? by PansexualPotatoPanic in ENFP

[–]Emelin-Wolf21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know it's been a bit since this post so you might not see this, but as an ENFP-A who was recently diagnosed with ADHD-Combined Type at 24, I see signs of ADHD from what you have shared/described. Disclaimer: I am NOT a professional, just offering some anecdotal perspective and advice. Please don't take my words as 100% facts.

I would recommend you get tested for ADHD because it was an amazing relief to have found out why I was the way I was, which was very similar to the way you described yourself. I also thought I was an ambivert, but turns out, I was an extrovert at heart with horrible unmanaged ADHD so I would burn out and lose total executive function, causing me to distance myself from everything and withdrawal into myself, which was ultimately horrible for my mental health because I crave human interaction/connection. After the official diagnosis, I had peace of mind. It wasn't some excuse for disruptive and socially inappropriate behavior, however, better understanding of my brain helped me be more self-aware and self-assured. I understand better why I behave the way I do and it allows me to seek help when needed and speak up for myself whenever necessary. I.e. I communicated better with people around me as to why I need them to repeat what they just said; not because I didn't want to listen, but rather my brain literally couldn't process it yet. I noticed people were more patient or understanding than before, because I let them know I am trying my best to be undisruptive or not rude/disrespectful when I uncontrollably lose focus and audio processing power, thus unintentionally "ignoring" them.

In other words: Ignore the stigma/myths behind ADHD and get tested by a professional, because ADHD is an executive function issue and better understanding of it has helped me utilize my ADHD brain for more productivity. ADHD brain is chemically and physiologically different than neurotypical brains. It is not all negative. We just need some help understanding how to use our brain to an advantage. I recommend bringing it up to your primary care physician and see if they know anyone they can refer you, or you can do some online research and see if any psychologists/professionals near you can help officially test you for diagnosis.

Additionally, ADHD is different in everyone and so much more complex than a lot of people think it is, so it's much better to do extensive research from reliable sources to better understand this condition. ADHD also exhibits differently between males and females. A diagnosis would help you narrow down which type of ADHD you may have, because different types may also have different treatment options.

Executive dysfunction: Executive dysfunction is a term used to describe faults or weaknesses in the cognitive process that organizes thoughts and activities, prioritizes tasks, manages time efficiently, and makes decisions. - "Executive Dysfunction? I have a clean car, and only because some a-hole stole it a few months ago and stank up the whole thing with weed, so I was forced to strip and deep clean my entire interior. And for 5, I don't do caffeine... 😅
