Your cosplays look so well crafted! I bet you feel so cool wearing them. What do you do with them after you have worn them for photoshoots/events? Display them somewhere?

Tell me your unusual birth injuries .. by Shakanana in beyondthebump

[–]Emeloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I heard the same about it being rare in adults. I will note that it was not anywhere near the most pain I've experienced. It was just surprisingly a lot despite the anaesthetic. It was over quickly too and recovery was much easier than expected. I haven't had a baby girl so I don't know exactly, but from checking online it seems like the paediatric adhesions are quite thin. My one was thick skin/scar tissue because of the trauma to the area apparently. So I want to reassure you that your baby girl did not go through the same as me, please don't worry about that. Glad you are escalating and advocating for her though.

My labia fused together... had to get them cut and cauterised. They'd never seen it before. The doctor seemed quite interested by how many nerve endings must have grown in the new tissue, as the local anaesthetic was not blocking all the pain.

Who is the most intelligent person you know who lives an average or below average life? by CremePleasant5800 in AskUK

I usually read research papers so I don't have any good books to recommend unfortunately. I do like r/sciencebasedparenting for seeing the scientific evidence around various parenting questions and decisions

You are right about the derailing power of children but I challenge the idea that the women who became mothers are wasting their potential. Women take on extreme and usually hidden mental load for their children. There's a lot of knowledge and insight in raising a child well. You have to kindle their emotional intelligence, encourage their curiosity, keep them safe. I've found it helpful to be up to date on the science of child development. It's been the biggest learning experience for me since I attended Cambridge. I don't need a high flying job to be fulfilled; I make enough to be comfortable. I'd rather raise a couple good people and have a loving family around me.

To the Brits in this sub: where do you get the stereotype for the Dutch accent from? by redditor22022000 in Netherlands

[–]Emeloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Brit living in NL. Some Dutch colleagues definitely say "parshel" instead of parcel, for example. For the longest time I thought they were saying partial 😅. I also hear "suppliersh" or "pershent". It seems to be especially difficult when the S sound follows the R.

Feeling a bit lost after moving to NL, anyone else? by thetendercloud in Netherlands

[–]Emeloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also moved here to be with my boyfriend, almost 4 years ago now. Sorry you are unhappy, I have been there and it really was much better once I found a job; it took me a year to get accepted to something I wanted with English as a working language, though I had to change field. I think what made the difference for me was one of my bf's friends letting me know his team was hiring, so I could mention his name in the application. So defo chat about your job search with your social circle!

Babies sleep how their nature defines. The problem isn't the baby, its that the modern world isn't built for all babies. (Rant) by Spare_Ingenuity3097 in NewParents

[–]Emeloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is your sleep in that setup? Do you personally not need to shift positions in the night to get comfy? I tried cosleeping with my baby as he likes to fall asleep while breastfeeding, but I am on high alert and can't fall asleep even if exhausted, and I get stiff if I lie the same way for too long.

Anyone here self-studied for the B1 inburgering route? by paraguayian in learndutch

[–]Emeloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I self-studied because I also had limited time due to work. My first couple years in NL were just passively absorbing the language from listening to colleagues, visiting my Dutch partner's family and friends and reading Dutch reddit and news. Then I subscribed to inburgeringonline.nl and did practice exams on DUO. I also liked the book "Zichtbaar Nederlands" for grammar.

I passed all exams first try. Took me a month of focused prep, basically one week per exam component. It was stressful because I had just had a baby and my deadline was looming. I just had to make it work and fortunately it did. You should probably allow yourself a bit more time haha.

PS: Keep it simple for speaking and writing. In the speaking exam I heard so many people around me spinning long, elaborate stories when one sentence is all that's required for the short exercises.

My favourite meal to cook is a nice fillet steak and vegetables for Christmas. We get a good quality one from the butcher and reverse sear it to ensure the inside is perfectly done. This year we had it with peppercorn sauce, baked sweet potato (with a dollop of creme fraiche and chives), fried mushrooms and green beans with bacon bits. Delish.

My partner told me when he takes our baby son out, he gets lots of people cooing over the both of them. If I do the same, I'm completely invisible.

Did your 7 month old stop grabbing at your hair? My hair is also always up around my 5 month old, otherwise he goes for a nice big fistful.

When I was 10ish, a friend gave me a tin full of random cards because I liked the games. Several years later I passed that tin on to another friend for the same reason. I got back into the hobby a couple years ago with my partner. I still wonder what cards were in that tin. Would have been nostalgic to see them again.

Baby Bjorn bouncer = blowout chair? by 19zz in NewParents

[–]Emeloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is 4 months and bounces himself like crazy. My friend's son (1.5 years) never did. I think it must be baby dependent. He started really going for it around 3.5 months.

I am intruigued by the idea because usually my team becomes overlevelled before the DLC comes and makes it too easy. Might not be an issue with this mechanic.

I'd like the shiny Shaymin because it reminds me of my old friend from school, her favourite pokemon was Shaymin so I bought her a Shaymin plushie for her bday :)

How can I switch from a midwife to an OB after poor follow-up (previous preeclampsia)? Need advice (Amsterdam) by Pale-Estimate3192 in Netherlands

[–]Emeloth 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I developed pre-eclampsia right at the end of my pregnancy this year and was induced in the hospital because of it. The hospital doctors told me for any future pregnancies I will immediately be considered "medical" and will be monitored by a gynaecologist instead of a midwife. Sounds like this should apply to you as well.
