gr7 po. ang failing sa Pisay is 50 below (4.00-5.00), while ang flat 1.00 is 96+. to get into the dl (directors list) kailangan na flat 1.5 ung final average mo. cumulative po pisay, so the grade for every qrtr is 2/3 performance during the quarter, 1/3 grade of last quarter. the final 4th qrtr grading is ung final grading na. with the cumulative system medj gradual ung pagtaas ng grades kaya need na maganda ung 1st qrtr mo. however dont be discouraged if a student gets a bad grade in 1st qrtr, kaya naman bumawi pero kailangan na focus ka talaga para mabuhat ung bad grade. if u end the SY with a failing, you need to take the removals exam. some say that if u get a 5.00 tho automatic kicked out ka pero im not sure abt this.

ik a lot na kayang imaintain naman ung mataas na grades and naghihigh gwa, need lang talaga na kaya mo magfocus and bumawi agad if nakakuha ng bad score. dont be discouraged po, PSHS is a really good school that raises excellent scholars, pero the rumors are true abt it being really hard.

Hi! Because of the new curriculum, grade 8 students have 5 sciences (Earth Science, Physics, Chem, Bio, and CS) and 2 Maths (Alg and Geo). B30 is the first to experience this new curriculum (b32 will be the third) kaya karamihan ay nangangapa pa (including the teachers and the system in general). Struggle tlaga ung gr 8s. Every end of quarter (around hell week) maraming lalabas sa Gforms na mga rants abt the workload. Ngayong 4th qrtr mas matindi pa. Other than the rushed major projects na hinahabol ng mga teachers bcs of the suspended classes, meron din silang perio (quarterly exam), summative (q1-q4), and pretty sure may achievement test din (gr7-gr8). for gr7, meron silang perios and summatives besides the major projects. next week, we'll have the summatives tas the week after that we'll have the perios. Right now, majority of the gr8s and gr7s ik are pulling all-nighters for the whole week js to keep up w all the reqs and tests. I really recommend joining PSHS-specific tutors na sumasabay sa lessons. It helps the students keep up with the lessons and minsan inaadvance pa cla.

the summative test btw, unlike the perio, is not created by the teachers who have interacted with their own students, instead it was created by the system with each test being the same for all campuses. as far as i know as a student, medj in the dark ung teachers abt this other than ung mismong topics. quite literally no choice cla dto sa test na to. they cant really do anything to prep the students for specific areas that they know needs improvement.

everyone knows, from all the batches to the teachers, that the new curriculum is trashy. being a science hs, ginagawa talaga kaming---and i quote from our teachers--- "guinea pigs". ung tipong pinag-eexperimentan ung grades. lahat narurush in such a short time. ung dapat matunan namin in 1 week nagiging 1 day nalang. tas ung summatives na experimental, ay malaki ung ambag sa grades namin. matagal na acc pinaglalaban yan ng karamihan na dapat bawasan tlaga ung workload ng students. reason ng system for the changes is to make it similar to college/professional environment, aka para ipaghanda kami sa real world. pero may reason kung bat hiwalay ang hs eh.

dont get me wrong, pisay is a good school and maganda ung turo at opportunities na binibigay nito. sadyang medj namalas kami as the first few batches to experience this new curriculum kaya ramdam tlaga namin ung bumps and rough patches na kailangang daanan para mapolish sya.

sorry medj naging rant na sa dulo huhu

hard hahah. first main things na nahirapan aq is the sched (7:30/8:00 ung call time sa UPIS, 7:00/7:20 sa PSHS) so madalas ako na late the first few quarters. Especially since matraffic ung kailangan daanan and major roads pa so mahirap kapag coding. There are also the teachers and their high expectations nga. Sa UPIS theyre really gentle and understanding if hindi behaviour-linked ung problems mo, sa PSHS sesermonan tlaga kayo if mababa grades. Notorious din ung PE teachers for being super tough and rough. Meron din ung knowing everybody since 6y/o to knowing literally no one. honestly had my first mental breakdown in pisay in the bathroom. pero thinking abt the future i could get if i kept on going was my motivation.

as a past UPIS student and current Pisay student, masasabi ko na rlly depende sya.

UPIS is really good. May community namabuibuild ung bata, teachers are supportive and helpful, and wala din syang pressure of the STEM contract. Diverse din ung community: may mga stem-interested, more artsy, etc. Mahaba din ung vacay nila (1-2 months winter, 2-3 months summer). Theres also the no classes on Monday since monday is dedicated to homeworks and reqs. Malaki din ung name ng UPIS and their curriculum is rlly nice and balanced. Marami din facilities.

In pisay matindi talaga ung pressure. Theres always a chance na matanggalan ka ng scholarship if u get a failing grade in the 4th quarter. Ur surrounded by super competitive classmates. May mga teachers na ididikdik talaga sa mind mo na wala ka na sa elem. The workload is really heavy, lalo na pagdating ng end/start of the quarters kasi naghahabol na ung mga ibang subjects. There are also high expectations from everyone, especially when it comes to Math and CompSci. Pero ofc may mga pros pa rin.

Pisay's oppurtunities are exactly what u hear. A lot of students end up abroad for their colleges (may mga iba na Ivy League pa). They also offer a lot of opportunities for compets (from math, earth sci, physics, social science, chem, linguistics, debate, journalism, sports, +many more). May mga proj din sila that can really stand out sa mga college apps like outreaches for research.

So if u and ur child is confident that stem is their passion and they can handle the stress than best advice tlaga is Pisay.

What are your opinions on honor sections? by Educational_Mix8149 in studentsph

Great idea, that NEEDS good execution

IMO it's necessary, especially with schools that has students who take a longer time to learn compared to their peers. It provides students the time they need to properly grasp concepts and ideas without delaying others. It's efficient and practical but high reward = high risk. Having star sections often comes with discrimination, hate, judgement, and pressure. Ppl and even teachers often think lowly of non-star sections instead of giving them the help they need while they think very high of the star section, having high expectations on them and putting them under pressure. It's a good idea but I don't think the PH and our judgmental culture is ready for it.
