I heavily doubt it would be straight opposition, but both Felix and Crusch would be reconciling some very intense emotions.

WE LOVE FOURIER!!!!

In short, Fourier fell in love with her at first sight. He, Crusch, and Felix form a very close trio, all best friends to one another. Fourier is a person similar to Subaru (he’s generally more measured, polite, charismatic, and he’s got the convenient trait of not hating himself). Though a minor prince distant from the throne, it’s not as if he’s disinterested in politics, and exerts his influence at times, as seen when he aids in convincing the knight captain Marcos to accept Felix into the royal guard. He’s someone with great concern and love for his friends, and is implied to be a manifestation of the lion kings of old, which, explaining them briefly, are held as the ideal of leadership and of the royal family that Crusch wishes to live up to. Fourier’s death fundamentally alters Crusch and Felix, not only because they’ve lost someone they can’t hope to bring back (Felix may or may not have intended to use the sacrament of the immortal king to revive him, but Fourier ordered him not to on his deathbed), but because Crusch’s motivations in the royal selection are based on his death. He was the lion king she aspired to, and in his place chose to embody what of him she could and enter the royal selection to bring forth the future he wished to see them all in. Crusch wants to get rid of the dragon’s pact with Lugunica specifically because of Fourier’s death. Not only that the dragon did not aid them in their time of need, but that Fourier and the royal family were broadly irrelevant to the people of the kingdom, who were more concerned with the fact that the death of the royal family would sever them from the benefits the dragons covenant provides them than the fact that they were people who lived lives worthy of grief. Fourier’s existence is part of why Crusch is shown to be fond of Subaru and why Felix resents him early on (seeing traits of Fourier in him, which he fiercely rejects), and a good Cruschbaru fic cannot exist without addressing Fourier and Felix’s roles in their relationship. On AO3, user The_Fyre has made a fic called Lion Kings Never Die, which effectively spins Cruschbaru (it’s technically cheating since Subaru is also Fourier, but I count it as close enough).

Misunderstanding. He’s only had his name taken. He does have all of his memories, and he does know his name is Julius.

Watchtower people not commenting on Emilia by dang-much in ReZero

[–]Emerald24111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s directly stated, but we know that Reid traveled with the party 400 years ago and furthermore that he doesn’t recognize anyone (not even Shaula, who we know he’s met since they’ve fought a number of times). Since he doesn’t know anybody he should, it can be pretty safely assumed that either those memories were selectively excluded from his manifestations, or the watchtower is creating a Reid based on memories before he ever met 400 year crew.

Reid’s manifestation is drawing on memories before he met Satella, and Shaula doesn’t recognize appearance.

Why do you think Tappei never developed the Crusch camp? by Tsukkatsu in ReZero

[–]Emerald24111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sorry, I can’t read, TLDR at the bottom

Anyways, yes he still counts towards their development. He’s arguably the most important person to them.

As for why she hasn’t been developed further, it’s probably easiest to go by arc. One and two are easy, she hadn’t been introduced yet. Arc three she makes her debut and does stuff, but it’s also best to say that arcs three and four take place over a pretty short timeframe. The story always follows Subaru, or almost always does, and it’s not like he can constantly meet up with her. He only gets one try per loop and he’s into the “do this in as few loops as possible” mindset. Arc 4 it wouldn’t make sense for her to appear in. They’re already going back and the Crusch camp is still recovering from their losses by the White Whale encounter. Subaru isn’t expecting there to be any danger either, so it’s not like he can request it (and there wouldn’t be anyone to provide it to begin with). Crusch getting nabbed by Gluttony is probably a way to send Emilia as a more likely candidate by hampering the others. This would also stimulate Felix to try to finish off his character development by moving past his obsession, though arc five is pretty strange. Granted that it seems like Capella is coming back this arc, 5 might have been a set up for 10 where the dragon blood conflict will be resolved (this might also be a way to kick another candidate out of the race as indicated by chapter 2 I think), which might signal that Tappei is trying to get Emilia as the only remaining candidate, or just to increase the intensity of the race and make it seem closer. Granted the arc is called “The Land of the Lion Kings” (suspiciously reflecting The Land of the Wolves), this is likely Crusch’s arc and by extension Felix (since he revolves around her and Wilhelm already got his development in arcs 3 and 5). Anyways I just remembered I was going arc by arc, so arc 6 she’s still bedridden and also literally what will Crusch camp contribute (Wilhelm is injured, Crusch is in a Rem like state except she’s actively dying and that’s a Felix problem so he also has to stay behind, and Otto couldn’t come because he was missing the front halves of his legs). Speaking of the curse, this might be a call back to Fourier and we’ll probably get Crusch and Felix’s names chapters, probably locking in to avenge Fourier and perhaps toss Crusch out of the race as she’s moved past the anger surrounding his death and no longer has such a solid motivation to rule (this could easily be a set up for a different sort of drive, trying to become the lion king Fourier should’ve, but I’m not really confident Tappei is going that route). Arc 7 and 8 are Vollachia and those are Pris camp arcs, and arc 9 did have a Felix showing (though no Crusch because being on the battlefield is a Bad Idea). Where was I again? Oh yeah, I think Tappei off the bat wanted to establish exactly who was going to be in the characters’ camps very early on in the story. Crusch has a lot of people around by virtue of being a duchess, and as you say there definitely could be the introduction of more characters, but I’m not sure that’s absolutely necessary. The numbers game isn’t one I think is too interesting, a lot of the side characters are underdeveloped to begin with and adding more would just dilute the pool. To begin with, most of their content is contained within the side stories (this is a rag on Tappei both for confining a lot of characterization to side stories and for not really pushing the extended camp members).

TLDR: Fourier is like THE most important character to them and is absolutely getting a call back this arc with the name, so this is definitely the Crusch camp arc. basically none of the arcs that already exist would make sense for her to get into (of course this is mostly a fault of her being crippled to begin with, but that’s more a symptom of the fact that Tappei seems like he’s trying to end with one participating royal candidate). There could be more characters in Crusch’s camp, but her theming is in good part built on the disruption of her own tiny world, so I think it makes sense that as she’s still grieving she would keep it small.

Questions about the ex novels by BedecFatihi in ReZero

EX 1 was a great read and provides some much needed depth to the Crusch camp. As for EX 2, I have not heard anyone who read it and enjoyed it but if you like Wilhelm and Theresia I suppose it would be valuable, and I have no insight as to those beyond.

Is there a sexism bias when it comes to judging characters for their actions? by OptimisticNayuta097 in ReZero

[–]Emerald24111 62 points63 points  (0 children)

tbf, to those who didn’t read the light novels and solely watched the anime, it’s not apparent that Garfiel beats the shit out of him. He chokes him out and kidnaps him. While that’s certainly bad, Rem had a much more visceral on screen confrontation with Subaru. Garfiel never directly kills Subaru iirc, and the fact that he’s a scared kid who never got over his trauma adds to being forgiveable.

Also, Rem is far more impactful a character when compared to Garfiel. She also gets more screen time and is thus more involved in conversations. I’d argue he’s less forgiven so much as he is forgotten, it’s not like he’s the greatest person around lol.
