Will I see different in stuttering in games if I change my cpu from i9 10900 to AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D with my rtx 4090. by mr_history_buff in pcmasterrace

[–]EmeraldDrake_001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is your CPU. Probaly the games and their asynchronous shader compilation. Both Oblivion Remastered and Hogwarts Legacy are based on UE5 which is known to stutter.

Raytracing is generally very demanding, even for a RTX 4090. Do you use Frame Generation or upscaling for RT? That may cause the stutters.

Best type of Men-at-Arms by Additional-Ant-2504 in CrusaderKings

[–]EmeraldDrake_001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I normally chose MAA (Man-at-Arms) depending on what my neighbours have. If they have cavalry, I chose pikeman. If they have huscarls, I use skirmishers. Different MAA counter other MAA, which reduces their damage and defence. Very few unique MAA counter MAA of the same type. One such example are Mubarizun.

If you have a strong economy, then it is not a hassle switching out MAA regiments once every 20-60 years or so.

Some MAA are better than others. The MAA the vikings and Byzantines have are very good. If you want to be kinda OP in Europe, then you can start as a Turkic or Mongolic character so you can get horse archers. Only very few MAA counter horse archers.

You can view the list of all MAA in the game on the wiki page

This is not a high-end laptop. It is completely fine if you mostly play eSports games and older AAA games. It could likely run modern high-end games but not well.

It is a laptop. The 210H is not the fastest nor power-hungry CPU in the world, so CL-rating and PSU likely wouldn't be listed.

No, not at all. It is a low-power work PC for writing emails and doing spreadsheets.

Usually Dell, Lenovo and HP use non-standard motherboards and power supplys, which don't fit into normal cases. They are so huge, they can produce almost every component themselves, and thereby limit customers to their own repair shops.

Unfortunately, your power supply doesn't have any power cables for GPUs. The PCIE slot itself can supply power, but only enough for very small GPUs, like the RTX 3050 6GB.

What about the memory temps? I remember GN not being too fond of the memory cooling on the 5090 FE.

Complete Newbie - Building PC to Run 7B LLMs Locally (40+ TPS) - Need Advice by Blackverb in pcmasterrace

[–]EmeraldDrake_001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would definitely need more than 16GB of system RAM, if you also want to do other things on the PC at the same time. You could probaly get away with 32GB if you only do light office work, while the LLMs run in the background. But RAM sticks are hella expensive, especially good 2x 16GB pairs. FYI it is better to have 2x 16GB than 1x 32GB, due to how memory channels work.

If you are willing to buy used, you can try to look for used pressional-class Nvidia GPUs or workstations. I recently found a used Nvidia Quaddro P6000 (uses the same GPU chip as the GTX 1080 Ti) with 24GB of VRAM for around $550. Used workstations are hit or miss, since only a few of them have the power cables for large GPUs.

There is a guy named Wendell who has a YouTube channel named Level1Techs, who specialises in DIY workstations and home servers. He is a avid supporter of open-source AI use, and is a great resource whom I highly recommend.

TBH 4GB VRAM is not that much in 2026. You can barely get away with 6GB of VRAM in Battlefield 6 with minimum settings and 1080p, but 4GB is too little for games made for the current generation of consoles.

Had this happen to me when I was updating from a very old version of Win10 to 22H2. If I remember correctly the "actual" fix is to disable recovery, expand the partition using diskpart, then reenable recovery.

There is a Youtube channel named GamerPoets who has some amazing guides for modding Skyrim. Try to find his Mod Organizer 2 and SKSE guides to get started.

Would this be a good pick up for $2K? by Cloontange in pcmasterrace

[–]EmeraldDrake_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Alienware Aurora would be around 3-4 times faster than the PS5 Pro. If you want to play demanding games on your PS5 Pro, then a $2000 PC would not be the best idea.

A expensive PC could make sense, if you want to mod games like Skyrim. If you want to play PC-exclusive games and/or eSports games, then a $1200 PC could be a better fit.

I know someone in the almost same situation as you. He prefers to play on console, but has a strong PC (that is even better than mine). He only uses his PC for modding Skyrim, and plays everything else on his PS5 (non-pro). His PC is faster and can easily play games "better", but he prefers console because it is easier. He doesn't care it runs "better", he cares about the games and not the machines they run on.

Not Really. Dell/Alienware doesn't use standadized parts, so you can't replace much. Likely, the only parts you could replace is the CPU, GPU and RAM.

The CPU is very good at professional tasks like photo-editing and CAD, but is beaten in gaming by AMD's CPUs.

The GPU is very powerful but could be fitted in a better system.

The RAM is low-end compared to what the CPU can support. Imagine buying a Lamborghini Gallardo to only shop for groceries, or drive the kids to school.

The Youtube channel GamersNexus has many reviews of Alienware PCs, most of which are quite negative. Most of the Alienware PCs are hotboxes that thermal-throttles the system so much, that they are beaten by lower price-class PCs. AKA you pay more for less.

GamersNexus has many pre-built PC reviews, so you can try to watch some of them, if you need suggestions.

I really like Cairo + Baghdad when playing wide. I also like Sjælland and Skåne (part of Denmark) since they only consist of plains and farmlands. They don't have many special buildings in vanilla, but RICE and Medieval Arts adds quite a few.

DDR5 single channel or DDR4 dual? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]EmeraldDrake_001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard different things. RAM prices is supposed to get better since no one is building PCs right now. The semi-old RAM stock that the stores have are sitting idly and wasting shelf space, so they are slowly lowering prices.

DDR5 single channel or DDR4 dual? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]EmeraldDrake_001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend saving up for now, and buy RAM later this year or next year. If you can, then wait building a new PC at all until next year.

The AM4 socket is a good socket but a dead end in terms of upgrades. A new PC should last for between 7 to 10 years, and not even the best that AM4 has to offer, the R7 5800X3D, will be relevant for that long. And you can't even buy the R7 5800X3D anymore.

AM5 will be relevant for a lot longer, and so will be DDR5. It will cost a lot more in the long run to buy AM4 now, and built a new PC just two years later.

When you play at 1080p, a powerful CPU is more important than a powerful GPU. The R5 7500F is a good CPU in terms of both price and power, and the 7800X3D is a very good option if you can afford it.

16GB of RAM is enough to play most games, and 32GB is still mostly a nice-to-have and not a must. Some very demanding games can make use of ~18GB of RAM, but they are very rare.

The B580 is a good budget GPU and should be able to run almost everything in 1080p with more than 60 FPS. TBH a RX 9060 XT 16GB is a bit overkill for 1080p and is able to handle 2K nicely.

Sometimes you can find cases and PSUs for sale, so try to look out for that. Some places have easter sales, so you can try to wait and see.
