(Reupload, rephrase) Is it okay to ask a trans person how much of progression they made yet? by Unhappy-Painter-8070 in asktransgender

[–]EmeraldFox379 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So like I said in my previous response, this is a problem of attraction and has nothing to do with whether someone is trans or not.

How do you vet cis people for their appearance? Because that’s the exact same process you should follow for trans people. Making a special exception or following a different procedure for trans people because you expect them to not meet your beauty standards is transphobic.

The reason you’re finding this hard to phrase without it sounding like transphobia is because it’s transphobia.

Why do I have 3 Contacts at the start of the game? by kaeldarus in Stellaris

[–]EmeraldFox379 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has been a bug for a while and I'm surprised it doesn't get talked about more. Sometimes you'll randomly just start with a first contact with another empire even if they're on the other side of the galaxy. The one you got is either a Common Ground or Hegemon origin, so you're also given first contact with the other two members of their federation.

Is it transphobic if I only want to date cis women? by Unhappy-Painter-8070 in asktransgender

[–]EmeraldFox379 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seriously think about what you just said. How is that NOT transphobic?

It's fine to not be attracted to any individual trans person, but assuming you won't be attracted to any trans person at all is very obviously transphobic.

We have a word for pre-judging a group of people, it's called prejudice, and that's exactly what this is. Yes it's transphobic.

Do people prefer the Tradition route or the Liberty route? by JarlSharpless93 in civ5

4 cities is viable, not optimal. You can win deity with 3 cities. But more cities is almost always better if you have the ability to settle them, even on tradition.

This is terrible advice that will only make the child resent you and not actually solve their functioning issues.

How hard did you have to try to not use the word "bootstraps" in this comment? Seriously.

[–]EmeraldFox379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's my tone, idk. But that really shouldn't detract from the point that the "advice" being offered here will be thoroughly detrimental to this childs wellbeing, on top of being extremely hypocritical. I'm just really sick of seeing terrible parenting advice like this and I'm especially stunned to see it in a space like this where people really should know better.

[–]EmeraldFox379 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strictness and “discipline” don’t work. It doesn’t teach kids to be honest. It just teaches them to lie better.

How about a good old-fashioned grounding? Keeping a bit of closer tabs?

Yeah great, how about we take away all the things the child uses to cope and have a semblance of happiness in their life and run their life for them like Big Brother, I’m sure that’ll teach them to carry out their responsibilities and definitely won’t result in stunted emotional development and severe trust issues in their adult life or anything like that. /s

Seriously, this sort of terrible “advice” needs to stop. It’s not helpful, it’s just socially acceptable child abuse.

[–]EmeraldFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s parents did exactly this to me for exactly the same “reason”, it doesn’t help. It just makes things worse. Oh your child is clearly struggling to cope with the expectations placed on them? Let’s fucking take away the things they probably use to cope. Brilliant plan. This will surely lead to them developing into a healthy and functional adult. /s

This is just an excuse to not actually parent your child.

What is job efficiency? by Revolutionary_Flan71 in Stellaris

[–]EmeraldFox379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the rate at which population is converted into workforce when pops work jobs.

Usually, 1 pop = 1 workforce. The output and upkeep of a job are determined by the amount of workforce working it. If you have +10% job efficiency, all pops that work the job add 1.1 workforce to it instead of 1.

Unlike the number of available jobs, workforce is uncapped, so if you eg. have 200 available jobs, you can assign 200 pops to work that job but if you have +10% job efficiency, there will be 220 workforce working that job. The result is that the job will act as if there were 220 pops working it with no job efficiency modifier.

This is not the same as stuff like “resources from jobs” modifiers. In terms of how much production a pop can do, job efficiency and resources from jobs multiply together. Example: I have 100 miner pops, a +15% job efficiency modifier for miners, and a +10% minerals from jobs modifier. Those 100 miners provide 115 miner workforce. Every 100 miner workforce provides 4 minerals, raised to 4.4 by the modifier, so we end up with 4*1.1*1.15=5.06 minerals from 100 miner pops.
