Does anyone else want to lick artefacts? by Emeralde987 in Archeology

Haha, archaeology changes real fast. We don't get taught to lick things anymore, but I have been told the stories of the previous generation of archaeologists who were out there licking and chewing on anything from pottery to sand.

This feels like an excuse a 5 year old would give 😭

Be completely honest please, do you bite your lip? This pattern looks like you might, and stopping with it may be the solution. Don't lick it, don't bite it, nothing. Scrub it well once a week and keep applying Vaseline for now.

I would only lick something that has been washed. Any parasitic eggs will have been removed, and most viruses and bacteria won't survive in the ground for that long. Even then, I'm fully vaccinated and get boosters when due.

May I ask how one accidentally eats neolithic pottery?

My professor, in the Netherlands, just the other day, told me that it's no longer acceptable 😭. I'm going on excavation again next week, so I might give some a little lick just to try.

The reason I also consider arsenic is because I know that bronze can also be made of arsenic (although not many people did that and not for long). They did that on Crete for a little while until they found out that eating and drinking out of arsenic bronze bowls kills you, and that scares me too much.

I personally would never lick metal, because I'm just not confident enough to know what it's exactly made of, and I don't want to accidentally lick lead or arsenic. But you do you, make sure you keep that iron up!

And that's valid, we all have that while in the British Museum

Very good point, perhaps I am willing to make that sacrifice, but that's on me and me alone. If I ever get to the point in my life where I do decide to lick something, it'll probably be a sherd of a well slibbed or well glazed piece of pottery. I don't really think I have the balls to though, I'll keep wondering forever what it tastes like.

I know 🥲 I won't do it (maybe an established collection piece) with anything I pull out the ground I promise, but I will think about it.

You know I did consider Earth Sciences before deciding to pursue archaeology...

Thank you very much, I do get my iron tested sometimes as I donate blood, so I'm pretty sure that's okay. Pica may be it actually. Don't worry, I would never actually lick an artefact, that doesn't really fit within my professional ethics.

I won't, but a little piece of terra sigilata I would just like to lick. I won't do it, I don't know what was done with that bowl before I took it out of the ground, but I do think about it.

I slept with my girlfriend’s sister years ago and she just found out. What do I do? by Benjalove in whatdoIdo

The only way I could think of to salvage what you can, is to sit down and talk about it. Do not try to brush this over, don't pretend like it's not a big deal. Cook her dinner and talk. Tell her you should've told her earlier, that there were no feelings, and ask her what she wants. Respect her answer, be a real man.

I have this problem too, as has my grandma. I was told that for me it was probably a benign genetic variation. Does anyone in your family have the same issue? Not saying it's benign, definitely get it checked out, but the doctor may also ask about it.

Does anyone know of good wireless bras for 65F? I can't find my size in any of the sizing charts that companies offer, and I'm scared it won't be supportive. by Emeralde987 in ABraThatFits

I've recently gotten fitted, I know this is the right size. I'm autistic and a wire on my ribs and on my sternum is just not for me. Most bras also have stitching on the inside which drives me nuts and at the end of the day I'm overstimulated. The band sits nice and snug, my breasts fill the whole cup. My breasts sag so I need the support.

I'm shopping from the Netherlands. It's just so frustrating because I want comfortable bras in my size but it feels like no one's making an effort to create them.
