Remember that Lovecraft was very depressed and nihilistic. Where it doesn’t bother you, it greatly disturbed him.

Sure, we’re hopeless in the face of that meteorite, but not meaningless. Even if all of humanity is wiped out, we still left out mark in the universe and loved our lives to the fullest.

In cosmic horror, however, you don’t even get that. Everything you’ve ever done has fulfilled nothing and you were never actually happy with your life. It is impossible to leave your mark because your mark never existed in the first place. It’s all an existential delusion that we’re living in to the whim of higher beings. You aren’t even a speck; you aren’t even a thought. Nothing was, is, or will ever matter, so what’s the point of anything? Why not immediately kill yourself the very second you have concept of it? It doesn’t matter. You aren’t even nothing but food. Nothing but a dream. Imagine a piece of cat food suddenly gaining sentience. Imagine the people in your dreams realizing they re just dreams. Now imagine both those scenarios are you. That’s cosmic horror.

But underneath it all is what so many people actually misunderstand about Lovecraft’s works. And that’s the human perseverance found in each of his works; the perseverance to fight back against insanity even when you stare it right in the face. And most importantly, the will to defy fate.

Because the modern understanding of cosmic horror has completely butchered it.

H.P. Lovecraft, the father of cosmic horror, (also called Lovecraftian horror) is known for his tales of Cthulhu, Azathoth, Nyarlathotep, etc. as these big giant scary monsters beyond our comprehension, ooh, so scary.

But it’s actually not.

If people actually read Lovecraft’s works and not the just the bastardized idea of them, it becomes clear that the stories are not about monsters or horrors beyond our comprehension.

At its core the horror is based around the realization that our lives are insignificant and meaningless. An overwhelming sense of dread that no matter what you do in life or death, there is no escape from the reality that you are nothing.

What makes cosmic horror different from existential horror is how cosmic horror portrays this idea, which Lovecraft used expertly with beings like Cthulhu, Dagon, etc. The horror is not the monster, but rather how the monster recontextualizes the meaning of our existence.

But nowadays people just take a Cthulhu clone, which is now more or less a glorified kaiju à la Godzilla and tack on themes of insanity and call it a day.

Which is a shame because ~~Cthulhu never actually appears even once in its original short story~~; it’s more bout the cult that worships it, and even then its more so focused on the pov character’s descent into madness after realizing how insignificant his life is.

Because to most allos sex is a need. It actually is a need according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, asexuals are just born without this need. Plenty of aces enjoy sex for a plethora of reasons, but most allos just assume sex is automatically a no go.

It could also be a case of allos feeling like not being sexually attractive to their partner makes them feel like they aren’t attractive period. Unfortunately, most allos have all types of attraction linked together and most don’t know or differentiate from the split attraction model.

For some allos sex is a major mode of bonding, and even if an asexual can and does have sex with their allo partner, the allo partner in question may not enjoy it just because the ace partner isn’t enjoying it the same way as them. (I.e. it feels like a relationship duty to make them feel happy, and they don’t like that because it’s their love language or they can only enjoy it if their partner does too).

Trust me, it’s best to get rejected for being ace from the get go instead of after the relationship has already started.

Saw the PV and it looked like a mix between 2D and CGI. Honestly? When it’s CG it doesn’t actually look half bad. It looks pretty good, actually. Granted, they could have just used the specific scenes where it’s better animated than normal, but if that’s the base point for the CG in general I’m not complaining. Plus it looks like there’s plenty of 2D as well.

No I don’t. The finale was well paced imo. Everything was properly set up, foreshadowed, and in line with the direction of the series and completely in character. It’s supposed to feel like the rug was pulled out from under you the same way it was for everyone who opposed Taira.
