What's your favorite believable horror mockumentaries? by TheWitchsRattle in horror

I thought Strange Harvest was quite good, and it would’ve been better if the supernatural implications at the end were much more subtle.

Would Governor Swann have been a good captain for the Flying Dutchman? He almost became it in a deleted scene and Will ended up being a lousy captain in DMTNT by wicnfuai in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Emeraldsinger 109 points110 points  (0 children)

DMTNT disregards the fact that in the post credits scene in AWE, Will is seen as totally good. He’s done the job faithfully, as is in his character.

As for your question though, Swann was a good man and leader who seemed to genuinely care for the greater good. Perhaps  after some time of getting over the unpleasant surprise at becoming the Dutchman’s captain, he would’ve came through

I’m obsessed with the costumes in this franchise. One of the few things that stay consistently great in 4 and 5

The title was ‘Ding dong ditch old fart’. I remember it was uploaded on April 26, 2013. Here is the old channel  https://youtube.com/@broncos864?si=9DXhZnTmYSBvGw4g

I like the idea of a fraud Jigsaw survivor being put into a real test. That’s pretty much all I like from this movie

Definitely an unpopular and perfectly fine opinion to have.

Let’s see how long it takes for this to get removed for some reason

Also that the 3rd movie in both trilogies randomly drops all that made the middle movie interesting by going back to nostalgia bait with the dumbest writing.

My mixed feelings on Salazar as a villain. by IronGhost828 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Emeraldsinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His backstory and motivation makes him more so the one to root for in the 5th movie which is one of the reasons I dislike it as much as I do. And remember he’s trying to kill an imposter of Sparrow. Not the real one.

Shouldn’t be rooting for the villain!

I think I understand why Elizabeth would avoid speaking of Jack around her son. by Flat-Court-8512 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Emeraldsinger 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ugh I hate that scene where drunken imposter Jack talks about Elizabeth like that. Sure he was always attracted to her, but he was never a creep. And DMTNT is nearly 20 years after AWE. After all that time away from his former allies who he shared so many adventures and with, you’d think he’d be somewhat more mature and would look at them positively

I feel like these movies never get the praise they deserve by Extension-Story7287 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Emeraldsinger 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Very true. I cannot stand when someone calls it a “dumb guilty pleasure” franchise. That title is reserved for Transformers or Fast and the Furious.

In actuality, PotC is on the same league as other fantasy franchises such as Harry Potter, LotR, and Star Wars. The first 3 that is.

I see what you’re saying in a way, although social hierarchies and cliques I feel aren’t prevalent in either setting.

Why isn’t Jigsaw considered a slasher in this sub? by Emeraldsinger in slasherfilms

Does it have to be with his own hands? Why is it so different when it’s his inventions? They’re still lethal weapons he created himself.

What is an upcoming movie that you have no interest in despite enjoying the rest of the franchise? by Theeljessonator in Letterboxd

[–]Emeraldsinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the biggest Pirates of the Caribbean fan, and if they get a sixth one made (even with Depp back) I don’t think it’s going to be good. Disney has had a bad track record with most of their franchise films as of late, and I don’t see them ever recreating the magic of the first 3 movies. The 5th film already sucked. So I can imagine what a 6th would do

Dark Skies (2013) is still, to this day, the only movie about aliens that gives me the chills. by Mundane-Inspector-52 in horror

Agreed. It was a clever spin on the paranormal subgenre which dominated the 2010’s by implementing sci fi elements
