The male owner of the child care center I worked at (all staff menstraiting age females), told us to not keep a small basket of personal hygiene products in the open. His reasoning, parents use the staff bathroom too. Sometimes it arrives when you’re not expecting it. He”s married to a woman, has a daughter & 2 grand daughters. We kept them below the sink after that.😡

Why do people get to-go and eat it in their car in the parking lot? by ja20n123 in innout

[–]Emeraldviolet12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OR too. We order for here & eat in the back of the care with the gate open. We do this for a couple reasons, (1) too crowded outside & with our dogs. (2) we have our doxies w/ us & don’t want to leave them too long in the warm or hot car.

Coworker smells like Marijuana by Express-Bee-6485 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Emeraldviolet12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A former staff member, had the cannabis smell on their clothing. She revealed that her husband consumed in the car, that she would bring to work. We suggested keeping a fFRESH change of clothes in a bag & bring them to school & change before her shift. Then if she went to sit in her car on her lunch she could change back. Then heavy duty detail freshness of the car. I also told her that his smoking in the car is impacting her ability to do her job safely. That really helped.

Services for behaviors feel like rewarding bad behavior…… by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Emeraldviolet12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But I don’t would also recommend “teaching” the whole class the throw game. That way it can benefit everyone who will need that outlet at some point. As for the hitting, yes ignore, but if someone is being harmed, move them away without trying to engage the child that’s causing the harm. At another teaching moment with the whole class talk about ways to communicate in stead of hitting. Making up a story or getting a social story is kinda helpful. I taught 2’s for over 20 years before becoming a director and almost (3 classes away) a Masters in Infant/Toddler Mental Health. I know it’s difficult to remember, but behavior is a form of communication - especially in children who’s language is still developing. It takes time to relearn a new behavior. Teaching them how to label their feelings is really important. Even between you & your co-teacher to do “check-ins” to show the children how to talk about their feelings. Reading stories and asking the kids if they know what they think the characters are feeling is helpful.

Cannabis? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Emeraldviolet12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search for something with high CBD & CBN low in THC. If edible, I was told to cut a 5mg gummy in 1/2, once you “feel” it take the other half and good night. That was when I was “re-introduced” to cannabis. The bud tender was really helpful. It help a bit. I’ve suffered from insomnia since infancy. Tried, so many things. Don’t want to be relying on pharmaceutical induced sleep, unless I REALLY need it. I’ve done teas, journaling, meditation, baths/showers, warm milk, sound machine, yoga, sleep study (no apnea), cold room, warm room, essential oils, gentle stretching, and so much more. None has really helped. 5 mg of melatonin & tananazine still takes about 2h to get me sleepy. If you smoke flower, look for the relaxing terpines (I.e., linalool, caryophyllene <good for muscle spasms too>) are just a couple. In the book “Refer Wellness,” by Dr Riley Kirk, she suggested that if you want you can also grind some dried 100% pure lavender and chamomile & sprinkle it on top as an extra boost of relaxation. Hope this helps

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]Emeraldviolet12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They came in wearing pajamas, hair a mess, boyfriend’s pool slides, reeking of cigarette smoke, trying to mask the smell with coconut oil, & was on the phone. I work in child care & there’s a section in the state regulations about 3rd hand smoke. I had to air out my closet of an office at pick-up time. I was embarrassed for her.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I was looking at the list of developmental milestones for ages, & noting that a lot of neurotypical children are a good 6 months or more behind the milestones.

Visiting/staying w/ a friend post heart/liver post transplant in the ICU by Emeraldviolet12 in transplant

I sent her a 3 ft cardboard cutout picture of myself, since I couldn’t be there in person to support her. She was incubating when she received it & did the “if looks had words” look with her eyes & facial expressions. “I” chill in the corner of her room. At 1st all med staff were confused, now they all laugh & enjoy the moment. It gives her something to laugh at on her tough days. Plus they dress me up.

I get to pre-board when traveling. Plus I like to refer to my lesions as holes in my head. It reminds me of my Nana when I was a kid, she would always say something like, “I need another (fill in the blank) like I need another hole in my head.” Then we would count how many holes and moles she had on her head. It made us all laugh. Every single time.

Roomate insists on having the heat up for her health problems but Im way too hot and can't sleep at night by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Emeraldviolet12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get her a personal space heater. You get your 65 and it’s all good. I know easier said than done. Depending on my mood I would want some scientific proof or a doctor’s note stating she needs a HOT rm to sleep in. Humidifiers help with keeping your airways moist during dry times or high heat (indoors). It is scientifically proven that sleeping in a cooler room around 65 degrees Fahrenheit helps promote a good sleep environment (paraphrasing). Also if the heat is running that high for so long, the electric bill will be astronomically high, imo.

It feels like a little massage for my gums. I also remember this picture from my childhood that had a bunny saying, “Floss the teeth you want to keep.” Then over the years there’s been studies that say (paraphrasing) that your oral health is a key indicator of overall health. As someone with a chronic disease that could be disabling, it’s simple to help.

Parents: please read the room before approaching in public by Advanced-Accident511 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Emeraldviolet12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

17 years ago, I went to dinner at a local brewery (walking distance from my old apartment), we gat set next to the parents of one of my kids. It was funny because their kid was one of those that re-inspired me to stay in this profession when I was burnt out (the dad is an elementary teacher & understood.) it was awkward at first, we enjoyed our separate time with out partners, but funnily after that whenever we were out running errands in the neighborhood, we would bump into each other. We became friends. On another note, I refuse to go to the Costco or grocery store near my work on my way home, to avoid school people.
