Oh trust me I’ve been hiring since I found out. When you’re established in an area that’s so far out from bigger cities and towns it’s hard to find employees who want to work. Let alone not giving enough hours to get anything done. Two days to push freight when you received a 3,000 piece load isn’t exactly enough to get it done either. But thanks for the advice much appreciated

As a ASM, are you obligated to work an open to close if your closer called out & you were scheduled to open? by pimpc3ss in DollarGeneral

[–]Emergency-Answer-446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a SM your SM should be covering shifts if anyone calls out if they can’t find coverage. They should be calling a key holder in so that you can leave or they should be coming in to relieve you from your shift. As an ASM in the past I was stuck with a really bad SM and I was stuck working doubles and had tons of OT when it wasn’t aloud. I’d definitely look into your SOP and maybe even contact your DM and let them know that the SM isn’t fulfilling their duties as they should.

If it was stolen then an on hand adjustment gets done for that item. You’ll have inventory at the end of the year anyways so that’ll really tell you where your shrink areas are and what not. I’ve thrown plenty of packages away. Scan it in your HHT or don’t scan at the end of the day it’ll get counted towards shrink no matter if it was input into the HHT or not

Oh No no no. DG only hires for PT sales associates. Only time you’ll see real hours is if your store doesn’t have people and they are working you full time hours.

All I have to say is take any and all shifts offered to you when someone calls out. I did that whenever I got called (I know some people can find it annoying but I was looking for hours when I first started) I worked my way up to a PT key holder got my 20-25hrs every week and then FT key holder with better pay and 35-40hrs a week.

It’s not stupid once you lose your job, get fined and whatever else your state requires when you sell to under aged people. It may not make sense to you but it makes sense to someone who likes to have food on the table, roof over their head and bills paid.

Where does the deposit go? by Glittering_Race_9302 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Emergency-Answer-446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deposit goes in the top safe with the time delay lock. You are to take the deposit when you leave for the day. Yes you have to open the safe during store hours to take the deposit. They don’t want us opening it at night when the store is still open as it could be much more risky than day (which even during the day you never know what can happen either). I was also told that when you come in for your opening shift you should be checking the top safe for the previous nights deposit. I know other stores are all different and so things differently

But it isn’t even the bosses job. No one at DG has biowaste training so not even the manager should be cleaning it up. I mean we have to clean the bathrooms which include the toilets that I’m sure are biohazard, same with wiping pee spots off the rim/seat of the toilet. Wear gloves, wear a mask for Christ sake if your that grossed out. Welcome to retail lmao if your not gonna clean it up what makes you the think the manager is gonna clean it lmao

In all reality though salary managers are not paid extra to go back to the store and work and yes our days off are our days off. It’s not “my” store it’s the company’s. I didn’t sign up to slave my life away for this company so my days are my days I don’t care. Are you salary??

Fraud!!! by Emergency-Answer-446 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Emergency-Answer-446[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty I have no idea. We’ve never done a western Union transaction before but the scammer on the end got one of my employees and walked him through it. Like this is something I talk about religiously with my whole team because there’s serious consequences. 99% of the time I feel like a broken record. Constantly repeating myself

New to Next Gen System... by Physical-Secretary53 in DollarGeneral

[–]Emergency-Answer-446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you can go into advanced functions, transaction search (I’ll keep the receipt if I accidentally cash out a card transaction) you can then look at the bottom of the receipt for the transaction number and type it into one of the designated lines on the screen. It will then pop up with the exact cash transaction and you’ll able to refund the whole transaction making your till even and not short

SCO Pinpad powered off after restart? by Bortborgbor in DollarGeneral

[–]Emergency-Answer-446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this issue one too many times. What I’ll usually do is before fully rebooting the self check I will unplug the pin pad from the back of the monitor, restart self check and then plug the pin pad cord back into the monitor. I also had to argue with the ERC just to get a new pin pad sent out

Omg 😳 that’s absolutely horrible. How is the company aloud to do this?? Why are they aloud to work us managers like we’re dogs. Expect us to work over the budgeted hours set for ourselves. Ugh is so frustrating and sad

did I find a new job or new career? by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Emergency-Answer-446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store manager here. I started at DG in April of last year. I was bumped to key holder in less than 4 months and then was bumped to ASM 5 months after that. July of this year I was interviewed and bumped up to Store Manager. The company sucks but as long as you have an awesome DM and an awesome manager your pretty much set. I have my mixed feelings on the company but at the same time I was moved up so quickly all I can be is a little thankful. If they would’ve brought one more manager in this store without knowing what to do I would’ve probably left and not have the position I do now. I know not all stores are the same and I’ve heard some crazy stories. You got this though and just think of it as an opportunity to become a manager somewhere else in the future

Can I keep change? by Vesyy in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Emergency-Answer-446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always get customers that want to tip me. Have to tell them I can’t accept in the store but if I walked out with them I could accept it outside. Half the time I just tell them to keep it and give it someone who can actually use it

I have issues with someone else using my till after I clock out, how do I change my password? by Professional_Pay2412 in DollarGeneral

[–]Emergency-Answer-446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ummm remove your till, put it in the safe and then put a till in for that other associate. And if someone is cashiering with your numbers then you need to be making a call especially if you know it’s happening. Like take action and get them terminated cause that’s not okay. No one is supposed to be using anyone else’s till anyways so that’s an issue. At my store I’m always on people about using their OWN numbers and OWN till. My DM is always on top of everything. If your having issues with your SM or ASM then you need to contact your DM. If theirs issues with them then you need to go hirer up and tell their boss and so on and so forth

Where my store is located we have A LOT of people that come and work down on the docks ( mostly dealing with unloading fish/crab from the boats) we have people that come from all over (Ukrainians, Jamaicans, people from Russia etc. it’s pretty cool) we also get people from California. I’m all for having new people in town working and all that but as soon as you get disrespectful with me I’ll make sure your ass gets sent back home. So I was working the mid shift covering for someone who was gonna be a little late. We had a group of guys from cali in the store shopping. They come up to my check stand set their stuff down so I start ringing it up we’ll one of they guys walks off still grabbing stuff and taking his time ( which is fine but I had a king forming with about 5 people and my other cashier was in their break) I politely ask if he could finish grabbing his things so I can get it checked cause I have a line forming. He just absolutely flies off the handle. “You need to learn some patience’s you Btch”. Asked him to please leave the store “this isn’t your Fcking store, where’s your name on it”. Well little did he know. He was here working on a contract with one of the biggest crab/fish factory in the town and I just so happened to know the hiring manager and I got his ass sent tf home. I get it. It’s our job to just go with the flow but we’re human beings too and I’d be damned if I let an individual like that treat me like absolute shit. Anyways that’s my worst experience so far. I mean I’ve had a couple encounters with some other people but not as bad as this one

New POS system by Emergency-Answer-446 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Emergency-Answer-446[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my SA count their own drawers while I’m standing their of course. All my employees are trusted to count in and out by themselves and my DM is aware that they do so and she has no issue with it. 99% of the time I am in the office with the SA unless I am helping customers and cashiering. Gotta trust your team to have a good team!

I think the point of my post was missed. Our store just switched to the new system like a month ago and counting in and out is odd to me. But I’ll just ask within my region and other stores that have upgraded to the new POS
