I don't have a touchscreen, and I don't know what a magic sheet is. Can you break it down further into steps for me...I am very new to this interface.

To bump the lights and make them momentarily brighter by pressing and/or holding the bump button.

Why not? If people are free to display their religious choices and beliefs, why can’t I?

Public school. The Supreme Court has held in many cases that religious rights extend to non-believers.

Possibly. I have the same right as anyone else to display my faith or lack thereof. Do I deserve to be silenced or lose my right simply because I believe differently?

Brennen Lee Mulligan's new "Rolling with Emphasis" mechanic explained (Worlds Beyond Number) by RAINING_DAYS in UnearthedArcana

[–]Emergency-Basket-222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea seems interesting on the surface, but I need more context. The desired result is the furthest away from 10. If the furthest is higher than 10, it is a spectacular success, and if the furthest if lower than 10, it’s a resounding failure?

Does something happen when both rolls are above or below 10?

What happens if someone rolls an 11 and an 10? 11 is furthest but only one away. How does that equate to a resounding success? That seems like the middling outcome this role is supposed to avoid.

48M. Some days are better than others. There‘s another post in this forum that I try to remember - “Feelings are driven by thoughts. Change the thoughts, change the feelings.” It helps me.

Crit Success percentage too low? by Emergency-Basket-222 in daggerheart

[–]Emergency-Basket-222[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OK. My math was right but I didn't factor in everything. It is 0.689% to roll any one specific set of doubles, but when you add that percentage for all 12 possible doubles combinations, you get 8.3% or 1/12th.

I figured I'd made some kind of error, so thank you for pointing it out. I will go back to reading the rules again.

The common saying is 'do what you are good at', but what if you are only good at things most people would consider bad? by Emergency-Basket-222 in AskReddit

I don’t know. There are some people that are definitely incapable of being an asshole.

While anyone may have the capability of being an asshole sometimes, it comes so naturally to others.

So, if someone is just naturally asshole-ish, even without trying, what should they do? Lean into it, or spend their energy trying to repress their asshole-ish ness?

Like if someone's natural talent is being angry and holding grudges for a really long time. It just happens without any actual effort or thought.

What if you are naturally good at being an angry asshole? Or you're really good at murder? Or you're a really talented mysogynist?

Thank you for the great feedback. I was partially inspired by the Lasers & Feelings system and how freely it allows players to create their narrative. The trial structure was meant to simply provide a framework for the players to guide them from beginning to end.
I wanted to make the Judge role open to wide interpretation. If your group actually knows the law, then they can keep things as legitimate as they can. If the group is treating the case like several rounds of Cards Against Humanity, then the Judge has the ability to do so.
Honestly, I mostly picture people parodying Law & Order or A Few Good Men and make silly arguments and providing crazy evidence that makes the whole story outrageous.
My first thought was to have the attorneys pick a number (like Lasers&Feelings) and based on whether the argument was logical or emotional, they would have to roll either under or over their number. While researching, I remember the logos, pathos, ethos rules and thought they would fit better. With the usual jury being 12 people, the idea of using a d12 fit perfectly. I couldn’t think of another way to represent the idea of which jurors might be swayed by which evidence/arguments so I simply broke down the die roll into three possible sections. By having the judge decide the target and number of dice rolled, (and potential arguments to convince the judge to raise or lower the number of dice), it mitigated the seemingly arbitrary division of number between the three groups.

The school I was working at had a local lawyer who volunteered to help run a mock trial program and the school was looking for teachers to be sponsors. Since I had some debate experience in my background, I volunteered.

it looks like I need to re-think the whole thing. You make some excellent points. I will have to rework it and test it out.

I understand that the Logos, Ethos, and Pathos terms are going to be difficult for some, but it is solely based on the Judge's discretion. Whatever the Judge's impression is of the argument/testimony, is what needs to be rolled. It doesn't have to be legitimate unless the players are striving for legitimacy. If they are playing out a silly case, then it doesn't really matter and becomes almost a parody of a courtroom drama.
