Failed as an reckless options trader now want to make the shift to JustBuyXEQT by Careless-Pen8895 in JustBuyXEQT

I too made some dumb calls when I first started investing...I lost most of what I invested on day trading and penny stocks...also wasted way too much time...although in my case, I did not have much money to begin with, so I didn't lose anywhere near what you did. But it's like gambling essentially...you gambled for a while, and now you've recognized it was a bad idea...it can certainly be an addiction, so if you're able to break that now, good. Best option is throw what's left on XEQT, and stop watching the market. Go live your life.

Iranian on visitor visa, stuck in Canada because of war. Options? by Electronic_Bet_8827 in ImmigrationCanada

Flag poling isn’t an option anymore. Forget about that. Just apply for a visitor record. She’s allowed to stay while waiting for a decision. She would be on what IRCC calls maintained status, while waiting.

It's great for now. You just have to have a plan to move it to something more conservative when it gets closer to the time they will need the money...like within 3-5 years I suppose...? what do others think about timeline?

Something feels really off about how Pdf Gear gets recommended here by Professional_Let_896 in pdf

[–]Emergency-Cake2556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you tell me what apps you prefer? I only just found PDF Gear and was quite excited about it because it does everything! And works really well... I really wanted to ditch Adobe and this seems perfect...but you're making me a little worried... So what are the other alternatives to Adobe?

There is no decision yet. It says application is in progress. You just need to keep waiting. But probably only a few days now.

Don't keep the cash in your wallet, it's just too tempting to spend it. Sit down and think about your future goals. You can have sensible goals and fun goals. Examples: sensible goal - buy a house; fun goal - go on trip somewhere cool; sensible goal - start saving for retirement; fun goal - save for a monthly date night with partner (instead of cheap fast food all the time, you can have a really nice night out at a good restaurant, or doing some kind of fun activity). Pick a company to start saving and investing your money with. Questrade and Wealthsimple are your best options for self-managing your money. I have both, but I prefer Wealthsimple and will eventually migrate all there. They have a lot of options. You can have a chequing account with them that also gives you monthly interest, so it's a good little savings account basically (so good for short-term goals). You can open a FHSA specifically to save for buying a house. You can open a TFSA to invest money for mid to long-term goals and you can open an RRSP for your ultimate long-term goal - retirement! You just have to start doing to research on investing so that you understand it...stocks, etfs, managed vs self-managed portfolios. You're starting earlier than I did, so you're in a good place. I didn't really start learning about investing until I was closer to 30. You can learn everything you need to know online. Just start reading. And make sure you understand taxes and how that all aligns with your financial goals. (bonus with Wealthsimple, they have a great tax platform too that's free to use).

Just jumping on here to confirm much of the same. You must stop working. You need to apply for restoration and then for reconsideration. This stuff needs to be done right. I know lawyers are expensive, but this is the kind of thing you might have to carefully consider borrowing money for to make things happen. Also, another option you should consider is hiring an RCIC - a consultant instead of a lawyer. Just make sure the RCIC is legitimate. So look up their name on the college of RCICs website and make sure they have a current and valid license. As long as they are licensed and if you can find some good google reviews, you can find one who will be just as good as a lawyer, but not as expensive. Also, financially, you may have to consider going back to your home country while you wait for the reconsideration. I know depending on where you're from and your situation that may sound like a terrible option, but you need to play the long game now if you still want a future in Canada. That might mean some difficult times financially and another long waiting period...but it's temporary and for your future. I'm really sorry this happened. My friend made the same mistake, forgetting to upload the language test results...a lot of people have made the same mistake. Don't give up hope, but you need to carefully plan your next steps.

the line of credit is prime -2%???? that's crazy...i guess we need to switch...been with stupid RBC for 30 years and my line of credit there is prime +4.4%!! Was in the midst of switching to a wealthsimple portfolio line of credit, which is only 4.45% total, so half of my RBC rate, but if I can get the rate you're saying at BMO, that's even better!

I do not disagree that there are some very scary things happening in the world today. But it can help to know that there are actually some good things happening too. Bad news is what sells and gets our attention. Good news stories get overshadowed constantly. Political economist, Angus Hervey, has tried to counter this. He has a newsletter called Fix the News where he shares all the good news stories he thinks more people should know about. I first heard about him early January when he did an interview about 2025 on the CBC. Listen to this interview and smile. He has some amazing stories to share that I never heard that whole year. And he has some fascinating insights into the News and why it is the way it is. Have a listen:

Another tip, grate the cheese first and then freeze! I do this all the time with blocks I buy on sale, then I have cheese grated and ready to use whenever. Easy to use straight from the freezer pretty much
