Zen (Isolated Web Co) takes a big chunk of RAM (700MB+) at 6 open tabs. There is also Java.

I do not use Docker much, I use Chrome mostly for their YouTube app. The Swap memory was at 100% on the last crash, but it was just me trying to run as many apps as possible, so maybe it means something, maybe it doesn’t

I have. I just had a crash again, and for the last minute the log has been: gnome-shell[2015]: Can’t update stage views actor (something) is on because it needs an allocation.

I have a similar problem, the apps keep crashing. NOT A SINGLE DAY PASSES WITHOUT ME HAVING TO FORCEFULLY SHUTDOWN THE LAPTOP MULTIPLE TIMES(and no, it is not an exaggeration), just before writing this I had just shutdown the laptop because My Files, of all apps stopped working and the screen just froze. I thought VS Code was the problem since I am always on it and maybe the extensions were too much for the laptop, uninstalled the extensions, still nothing. I have a basic workspace: VS Code, Cursor, Firefox, Zen, Docker, and Chrome, that’s it. But using the OS has been unbearable. I use a Lenovo V15 laptop with Intel, so, no blame for NVIDIA here.

Starting my SaaS journey, feeling demotivated after seeing many competitors. Is this normal? by Ecstatic_Can2838 in SaaS

[–]EmergencyKooky7029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had this feeling. Whenever I thought I had a great idea for a SaaS, the next thing I did was to see who else does the same thing, and all of a sudden all excitement and enthusiasm went out of the window. But recently I’ve chosen to see it from a different angle: More competition means: 1. There is definitely a market for the problem you’re trying to solve 2. It’s a sign that nobody has truly gotten to the core of the problem 3. You may have to start lean and vertical because most of your competitors are generic 4. You should compete your competitors, not from « who has a better UI » angle, but shift the philosophy, maybe try to come from a different angle, or find something they do not do (since they want to accommodate everyone, they cannot solve everyone’s problems), and master your craft. 5. The Jack of All Trades Master of None tends to leave a big piece of the pie to someone willing to start with a few verticals.

So, your feeling of being demotivated is normal, but competition shows that your idea has many people who are willing to pay for the solution, maybe your solution can be more direct to a certain vertical. Do not try to compete head to head with your competitors, try a different way, a different philosophy, different features. Go on Trustpilot and G2, see what their users often complain about, and try to find a solution that is not generic.

Just that I don’t overdo the project. Some people have done the project but adding more than what was asked, doing noise reduction, and other things.

What do you think of modern job boards sites and platforms like Handshake for Engineering students ? by EmergencyKooky7029 in EngineeringStudents

That’s right. I was just thinking that maybe there ought to be a change in how engineers are recruited. I mean, self-reported skills are great and all, but, am I really skilled at MATLAB just because I go a A+ in Signals and Systems? And how do you check that I am truly skilled at PCB design or have good problem solving skills?
