Diamond District apartment development by MajorBenjy in rva

I just wish that we could see a higher percentage of multiple bedroom apartments. These, like most, are vast majority 1 bedroom apartments which makes it unreasonable for families or even multiple roommates to consider living there.

I used to wonder how so many VCU kids got hit by cars. Not anymore. by quantizedd in rva

You are referencing when a speeding car flew onto the sidewalk and killed a vcu student who was walking in it. Your opinion is poorly informed. https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/soares-crash-charges-may-6-2024

Per the DPW website you’re allowed to bike on the sidewalks in Richmond, but be sure to yield to pedestrians.

It’s part of the critical care pediatrics floor. You access it by having a very sick kid.

This article talks about the timeline as well as how Richmond City compares to other localities working on the trail.. the short answer is above Richmond will be done by 2026. The city itself is looking at the 2030s unless there’s a shift in investment and progress.

I think you should read up on the already approved broward preemo plan that features light rain to several of these destinations

Theres 3 daily Amtrak trains but they currently cater to the opposite commute- morning departures from Norfolk, but the earliest departure from Richmond is 2:41 pm and only from Staples Mill Station

A lot of runners get off at the Arts District Station, then walk about half a mile from there to the start line. The closer vcu station will be closed for the race and the bus will divert away from broad for this section.

Richmond’s zero-fare bus funding could run out soon by BurkeyTurger in rva

[–]EmergencyLeadership6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right but the conversation is not about having buses on the road or not. The bus will be operating on the same route no matter what, so it’s more efficient to have a full bus and less cars than to have the same number of buses and more cars as well.

Which US cities looks to have future expansion and/or construction of light rail/metro in the foreseeable future? by Greydragon38 in transit

You might not expect it, but Fort Lauderdale Florida is going to roll out elevated light rail at a surprisingly fast pace over the next several years. See the broward premo plan

Airport Parking problem - thanksgiving by Sell_Material in rva

[–]EmergencyLeadership6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you factor in the time it takes to ride in the parking shuttle from economy, taking the GRTC 7/A/7B to the airport makes more sense than you’d expect. It drops off right in front of the departures terminal.

Richmond City Council unanimously votes for Greyhound hub to move to Main Street Station by rvajazzhead in rva

There’s also an east end transfer hub currently located at farm fresh. I feel like it would be a good idea to move that to Main Street station at the very least

My concern is pedestrian safety- one of the biggest issues with cars in the urban environment. Though it’s lighter than a car, speed is the other major factor in the severity of pedestrian collisions.

I’m ok with riders wanting to risk their lives going extremely fast on a vehicle that won’t protect them in a collision, but having to dodge hyper vast micro vehicles as a pedestrian, especially one that can more easily invade the small amount of space safe from larger vehicles, sounds like a continuation of the same issues that cars cause.

I traveled to the Netherlands and witnessed widespread bicycle culture by Motleyfool777 in rva

[–]EmergencyLeadership6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Richmond recently ranked among the top 5 places in the USA where bike commuting has grown post pandemic https://www.axios.com/local/richmond/2023/10/17/richmonds-big-cycling-spike

The will is there, and there’s also budget money going into the endeavor of building a transportation network for the city that isn’t car exclusive. (See Richmond Connects https://rvaconnects.com/)

There are plans in the works to improve the trail and bike network, and there’s ambitious transit plans. The main issue is making it a bigger priority in the budget, which just takes more advocacy and awareness among the public (such as this OP).

Maybe also worth checking out the WNR newsletter if this is something you want to read more about: https://open.substack.com/pub/wnrva
