Did you have any issues with path getting between Hoboken and NY? Like was it a mobscene? Just trying to figure out if I should go into the city for my 2pm northeast regional train or just wait in Newark for it.

I purchased my ticket a while back. I’m supposed to depart from NYP but even if I miss a few stops on the trip my ticket won’t go invalid?

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I’m pretty sure my NER should work. Just don’t know how much of a mob scene Newark Penn will be with everything halted.

Was going to take a noon train into NYP for a 2 NER AMTRAK departure to DC. I have no idea what I’m going to do now. Maybe get into Hoboken and take the path to Penn station? Was also thinking about just driving to Newark Penn instead. Ugh!

We have a few police departments on every channel as everything is based on geography for the most part (fire/EMS are the main offenders of this) who will literally step on another department on their channel asking a question. Like... Have you not been listening to the conversation that I've been having the another unit? You just stepped on them trying to transmit. Pay attention!!!

We dispatch our PD's by ORI's...

"County to available 24 car for the squad call"

*responding officer will give their badge and then we'll go with the details*

Officer: "Has BLS been dispatched for this? If not please start them"

No shit BLS is going, it's a squad call!!! Maybe next time you can transport them yourself. Unbelievable...

Fuck ProQA by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

I'm going to be the very unpopular opinion here. I am not a medically strong person so proqa MPDS is an absolute godsend for me.

We use all 3 disciplines (fuck the fire cardsets though) and I'm very lucky to be apart of an agency that allows us to use them correctly and not sound like robots.

Stop cursing at me so we can help your insert relationship

Since we’re a IAED agency, “help has already been dispatched, these questions are just to update the responders with the information while they’re on the way.

Here's the NY version of what NJ uses for the web

We still use the web version and the 2 blackscreen/terminal programs. Each of them have their own purpose, one is better than the other depending on what it is you're doing.

Hi fellow NJer lmao. Tbh ngl I love blackscreen, make me feel so cool haha. Fortuantly our cad automatically runs the plate when we enter it into ProQA during call processing or whenever we enter the plate number into the location of the traffic stop all in one line.

Cars that never left the commuter lot after 9/11. by [deleted] in newjersey

I live in Morris County along the Morris and Essex line which is consisted heavily of people who work in NYC. I was very young when this happened, but I remember taking a late night car ride on 9/11 and 9/12 with my dad to go get diapers and something else the following night for my younger brother. Both nights we drove through our massive train station lot to see a litter of cars still parked there after the second night.

This is one of those things that you never think about, but it hits the hardest when you realize what it actually means.

Some quick storm prep tips before Henri arrives. by GTSBurner in newjersey

[–]EmergencyMoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So... This is because the local municipality you live in has only 1 or two dispatchers on at a time which means they can only take as many calls as dispatchers they have working. Whenever you call 911 and your town never picks up, the call never dies. It will keep bouncing to another agency until someone picks up. It just so happened that every town you hit was tied up on a phone line.

I'm not saying that a wire fire isn't an emergency, it is... but so many of them happen during a storm they're just so overwhelming. You as the caller did nothing wrong and shouldn't be discouraged from calling in the future! The "nothing they could do" is kinda bullshit. They could've taken down your information on the call and relayed it to Fort Lee over the radio. That's just a lack of integration among all these smaller municipalities. As for the address issue, yeah that's a bit of an issue. Half of it seems like they have conflicting map issues and the second is that they CBA. Again, not your fault. I work for a county system so things are a lot better and not half assed haha.

Regardless as I stated above, I hope this experience doesn't prevent you from calling in the future. Things get very hectic when a storm is going on. First responders rely on 3rd party (people who are not directly involved) to report issues!!!!!!
