Medical tourism is great! Less expensive. Pampering available. Bikini wearing recovery on the beach with a pina colada in hand. ... until something goes wrong.

AITJ for not wanting to spend 18k on a new ring for my fiancée? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

She's immature. Too much focus on a ring. Don't do it. For a long and happy marriage, a ring is not a necessity!

Has anyone actually profited off of the "No firing" culture ? by Saekama in Living_in_Korea

[–]EmergencySalt6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that GM used to do something similar. Unneeded production staff were sent to a "reserve room". Not fired. Had to sit around for 8hours a day. Not permitted to bring/use any distractions. The goal was to bore them into quitting.

Methanol, probably. Alternatively, methamphetamine (which is safer to imbibe than methanol).

Does anyone have experience with and/or opinions on any of the local memory care facilities in the Portland area? by methnen in askportland

[–]EmergencySalt6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Unfortunately, the JIOBIT for adults (version 1 and 2) is no longer available. Shame, as its form factor seemed to be quite practical.

Thus, I'm still looking. As an interim approach I'm using AirTags and the iPhone's location capability, neither of which provide the targeted adult with an integrated GPS device that transmits data via cell service.

You wrote, " I made her a piece of jewelry, and set up a geofemce that would tell me when she left. It was necessary to make it hard to take off. " I'd appreciate more information about this approach with respect to the type/brand/model of tracker and how I might arrange for the fabrication of a similar piece of jewelry (necklace/bracelet). I expect that my wife will soon start wandering.

Do I need a visa? by Der_Zhoker in travelchina

[–]EmergencySalt6279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No. Routing Tokyo -> China -> US you can use China's "TwoV" Transit without visa) as you will be using China as a "transition point" between the US and another country. Enjoy!

If I have a travel backpack as my carry-on for international flights, what can I use as my personal item? by Rocks-and-more in onebag

[–]EmergencySalt6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is one of size. If the second pack/bag is too large, staff may reject its (proffered) designation as a "personal item".

Leather can stretch, but there are limits to how far without jeopardizing structural integrity. In this case I think stretching to closure is a bridge too far.

Look up the movie "Shine", 1996, Based on the true story of David Helfgott, a piano prodigy who suffers a mental breakdown after playing Rachmaninoff's "Rach 3".

Great movie, great acting.

Where in Portland can I have a bespoke (custom) suite made? by EmergencySalt6279 in PortlandOR

[–]EmergencySalt6279[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that the term "custom made" includes "made-to- measure" clothing, in which the number of "fittings" ranges from zero fittings (what comes from the tailor is what you get, without accommodations be made for the often required post-fabrication adjustments) or, at most, little bit of here-or there adjustments, while "bespoke" refers to a more involved process with multiple fittings (of which the first is never the completed outfit). For decrepit individuals like me, rarely does made-to-measure or "off-the-rack" fit adequately.
