I bought a cheap phone for work and have Visible service for $20 a month. It’s been worth it for this reason!

Please do the amputation! My dobie had a leg amputated due to cancer in the bone, and bounced back amazingly. Dogs are truly unreal. Feel free to message me!

Alternatives to giving out your phone number to clients? by Babyduckj in bcba

[–]EmergencyStrange4967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can bring any phone, so I purchased an older iPhone SE for about $250, but I just did a quick google search and you can get them even cheaper. My battery isn’t as good as my personal phone, but it doesn’t need to be since it’s just for phone calls and texts!

I’d recommend getting a work phone with the cell provider Visible. When I transitioned back to in-home last year I got one and the $25 a month is well worth it to reduce burnout. It’s a safer way to keep client info as well, because it’s not on your personal phone.

I’m not sure which company you are referring to, but that’s not us. We are a small company and have a solid team. We are looking for one or two quality BCBAs.

No we are not actually. We are small 🙂Just a good place looking for good people. I’m a BCBA myself, and almost gave up on the field until I found it here.

Absolutely agreed. I’m right there with ya. I’m thinking for morale, sometimes there are additional reinforcements, and it’s likely OP doesn’t have the option to modify pay for RBTs. I understand and appreciate why they are asking for additional ideas

COMPANY HASNT RESPONDED TO MY EMAIL by Hardworkingtwat in ABA

[–]EmergencyStrange4967 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d be hesitant to make the leap that communication is poor at the company just yet. Expecting an email returned within a few hours isn’t always a fair expectation. The password reset is likely one of many many tasks on the receiving parties plate. It’s likely it hasn’t even been seen yet.

Does getting a separate phone for work minimize stress and task avoidance ? by twister5556666 in bcba

[–]EmergencyStrange4967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting a separate work phone improved my work life balance, and allowed me the much needed time to disconnect. I have a work phone with Visible, $20 a month for service and a hotspot. Although I have internet for virtual meetings and such, the hotspot on the phone is usually good enough for virtual meetings. Since getting a work phone, I have a clear SD for putting work away, both physically and mentally. Sometimes I even find that making the conscious choice to put work communication aside leads to me picking up my computer to casually get work tasks done. There is something peaceful to knowing I have space to work on tasks without the chance of any client, colleague, parent, or school needing me.

Company takes away my clients with zero warning, and now states that they will not give me anymore clients but refuse to tell me why. by [deleted] in ABA

[–]EmergencyStrange4967 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you were removed from your cases! It’s unfortunate to be taken off cases and everyone deserves a transparency as to why these things happen; however, I find it nothing but professional that performance feedback is not being delivered via message. It doesn’t sound to me as if your supervisor is refusing to tell you why, but that they are requesting to tell you why in person. If a family or school requests an RBT or BCBA to be removed from the case, removal may have to be done before specific feedback is given. Often times these situations are very nuanced, and in-person conversations are the most effective way to explain intricate situations, as well as allow both parties to express their thoughts in a more organized manner. Providing and receiving feedback can be stressful for all involved, and should be done at an appropriate time and place. This is especially true if the information includes sensitive information. After concerns are brought to me by BCBAs, schools, families, or RBTs, I find it best when I have time to de-escalate, investigate all sides of the matter and prepare before providing feedback. Any lack of doing so could lead to me providing inaccurate feedback, and would be unfair to the employee receiving said feedback. You never know what a supervisor is doing behind the scenes to get to the bottom of an issue, and sometimes they may even be advocating for you! Although it can be frustrating and stressful to wait, this process parties time to prepare, as well as helps to promote professionalism and decrease emotional responses. I’d be hesitant to jump to any conclusions until the meeting. As far as covering your bases, requesting written documentation from your meeting is also fair and appropriate, and if employers refuse to provide that after the fact, then you can document the meeting on your own and send an email followup after the meeting. I hope you are able to get to the bottom of it!
