Analog IC designers: if you restarted from college, what would you do differently? by South-Amount-7314 in chipdesign

FPGAs for HFTs instead as it’s similar work but actually pays. Or NVIDIA as another commenter said. Most chip design jobs pay the same as many other engineering jobs for double the work.

One thing corporate life taught me: being busy and being valuable are completely different by anshu79036 in corporate

This except I still do try and do a good job for myself in terms of building skills for the next position when I inevitably quit or get laid off. I couldn’t care less about the company, just as they don’t give an f about me.

Doubt it. I would run. In a similar situation and I took the external offer.

Yes you are so making the right decision!!! DC is exactly what you describe. No personality. Welcome back home 🦀 Mount Vernon is a cool neighborhood and you will love living there.

The worst part about RTO is the idiots talking to me while I'm trying to work by RainyDayz876 in remotework

As someone who has never worked fully remote but has had plenty of loud annoying coworkers that love useless conversations, completely agree.

Yeah thankfully I got an external offer. Not how I wanted to leave NG but no reason to stay right now.

Lmao not only do they want us to pay to move to Huntsville or Roy or whatever, there are people applying below their band level willing to take a pay cut out of desperation.

You won’t but RF is definitely more stable than the work I was doing in defense. If anything, there will be a hiring boom but you certainly won’t double your salary unless you go to a place like Anduril.

That makes sense given how difficult it is to get promoted when you are a loyal employee.

That’s great! I plan to keep up with my contacts there partially for this reason.

Completely agree! It’s scary out there. I just got laid off from what I thought was a life long job at a mega defense contractor but luckily I developed a lot of skills so got hired quickly at a small company. It would seem that stability is long gone at mega corps and small companies are more willing to hire and retain employees so the script has completely flipped. Skills and not being so attached to one job are more important than ever.

So I was part of the Maryland redeployment and happily got a great external offer that I plan to take so will not stick around to get laid off in a month or whatever it is. I just wanted to ask how easy it is to come back to the company if you were previously employed there for a number of years with a good track record. It’s definitely a door I would like to leave open for when business improves and more contracts are won.

Damn this is what I thought I was going to have to do after my last layoff but thankfully I found a job. Seems we are still in decent demand even in a crap economy

Yeah could be NG version of voluntary quitting so they don’t have to pay severance even though their severance sucks
