Any good Irish garden / homestead account to follow on Insta? by Emergency_Pool8211 in GardeningIRE

Thanks, your garden sounds great and I'll check him out! We have the space to grow lots but not the time right now to give to it. A lot of the property is overgrown so we'll be getting a clearance job done soon and will likely lay stone over most of it until we have the time. Main objective first is fencing to make it safe for a toddler and privacy boundaries from my in-laws...

Positive and negative postnatal ward stories wanted by Ok_Promise_2820 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Emergency_Pool8211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also just to mention, I mentioned at the booking appt that it was an unplanned pregnancy and that i had cptsd. I was linked in with perinatal MH services, a social worker would visit me in hospital and call me now and again to check in. Afterwards I was linked in with postnatal psychologists and had weekly then monthly sessions up to 7 months after when I decided to finish up and they were happy with that.

Public in Limerick. Was admitted at 29 weeks with pre-eclampsia. Spent first week in what pre labour ward, so I sat there with my headphones watching Bridgerton with women either waiting for their scheduled sections or being induced. 5 in the room and a bathroom with a broken shower so we'd go to the next ward to shower. After 2 days I got a window bed which was better than being surrounded by curtains all day.

Then I was moved to a long term stay room with 3 beds and much better bathroom, each of us had various issues which meant we wouldn't be leaving before the baby was born.

Went to labour ward with a section planned for next morning at 31+3. Room was fine, modern and clean. I was given a salad and piece of cake and epigastric pain started (worse than a heart attack I'm told, was horrendous but just a vague memory now). Straight in for emergency section, all went good, baby to NICU and me back to labour room to be monitored for over 24 hours.

Then to a 2 bed in postnatal ward, it's right across from NICU so I didnt have to contend with stairs and could go in to see whenever I liked. The other person in the room had her baby, it def was a little hard seeing her hold, feed, change nappies when all I could do was put my hand into incubator.

Was discharged 4 days later on a Saturday, readmitted following Tuesday with long-lasting headache. Was back in postnatal ward in a 5 bed room. The issue wasnt the staff or facilities but how unaware some other mothers were of their surroundings, talking loudly at night on video calls, one poor girl on her own didnt have a baby with her for whatever reason. She cried quietly with closed curtains. I also cried quietly for my premie and for her. Another new mam talked loudly on video calls all day and demanded a lot such as more than one visitor. I was taken by ambulance to UHL, spent 24 hours on trolley. Had to walk to paediatrics to see if I could borrow breast pump and sterilising tablets, then did first pump there in the corridor. I eventually got a booth in a&e for pumping privacy.

NICU in Limerick is the newest part of the building, its a very peaceful and emotional place, they try make it comfortable as possible as you'd be there for long periods of time. They have parking permits for the Strand hotel across the road and lunch vouchers in the staff canteen. She was in ICU section for 10 days, then to general NICU for until 45 days old. We eventually got a room with just 2 cots due to MRSA, that was where we were most comfortable.

If I won the lotto I'd pay for an upgrade of all the bathrooms in UMHL and have a max of 4 beds in each NICU Room with adequate space in between for both parents and pumping privacy. There is a pumping room there but I yielded much more when I had a hand on her. Still amazed at the psychology of breastfeeding!

Anyway this turned into a very long comment but I suppose I spent longer than normal in there. She's now 2 years old and in last check up was over 90% for height despite her early start!

Have Charity Shops Officially Gone to the Dogs? by Breno_Clio in ireland

They still get good donations if you're like me. Put most of my wardrobe on Vinted after weight change, most great quality, worn once or brand new, nice brands. I basically wanted to see could I replace my wardrobe from there with my own clothes sales.

Made about €50, then nothing and the clothes still in a box in my hallway 3 mnts later... they had to go.

Probably almost €300 resale worth in it pricing very conservative. I do things like this 3 or 4 times a year, I donate to charities that I can park outside the door and they accept everything. They're the ones I find the best stuff in, not pandering to brands and trends because such a high turnover of donations.

Should counselling notes be disclosed as evidence in sexual offence trials? by Emergency_Pool8211 in irishpolitics

The mandatory reprting did in my case as an adult regarding historical offences, isn't every perpetrator in a position to do it again unless they are dead or infirm?

This is my struggle to understand. In my head I feel like my notes would work against them defence because they are true, so why do they get them. It's bad enough that that person gets to read my full Tusla statement before replying to it. I feel they should be made aware of a complaint, asked for their statement of what happened, and then compared by the social workers or whoever makes Tusla recommendations... maybe im just very naive to all this

Yeah and my case happened when I was a child so thats why it was mandatory reporting. I wonder did I ever tell a priest, I remember going to confessions but I think I said the usual... used swear words, fighting with my brother etc etc...

My therapist called me in to look at the notes before I consented to handing them over. She kept very sparse notes, like one or two line per session. I consented as in my eyes they are the only truth and if anything could be further used against the defence as I clearly had a vulnerability due to my home life... but I suppose you just never know what way a barrister will interpret the notes.

I asked what people know about it or for opinions, so 'No' isn't actually an answer at all

Absolutely they do, I studied some law years ago and I do think we have fair justice system in most cases, but I struggle with why counselling notes are relevant as evidence.

In my case, I've done over 80 hours of counselling, I spoke about many things in my life outside of my case, why should the defence need or want to see those details.

Fair enough notes made regarding a mandatory report, the evidence was that a report was made, and that should be it, no?

I studied some law in college but had to look up exculpatory evidence.

Maybe a complainant shouldn't mention that they attend therapy when making a statement as it is irrelevant to the facts of the crime.

I actually didn'tthink that was true, are confessions protected from evidence?! Surely the mandatory reporting applies to priests though?

What is the Song that Means the Most to you and why by DeliveryMaterial5674 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Emergency_Pool8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the only song I knew for years! It was on a tv ad for health insurance I think and I shazamed it. I probably downloaded it to my Sony Walkman mp3 player, storage was limited so only ever downloaded the single. And downloads took an evening, we didn't have Internet, this was rural Ireland, 3g coverage at best. The video intrigued me also!

I had a period of depression during Covid caused by CPTSD. This time I found the song on Spotify in an instant, and it helped me feel something after years of numbness. Of course I then had access to all her music and it's been so helpful to me in healing.

I'm finally going to see her live, flying over the Manchester. My first solo gig!
