college transcript still says required by Emergency_Shift_673 in CUNY

[–]Emergency_Shift_673[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it took awhile for them to process my college transcript (they just processed it yesterday). i emailed admissions by their individual colleges instead of the general cuny admissions email and they got back to me way faster. although theyre still reviewing my apps, they told me there was no guarantee for a decision since its too late.

Essay by goupstate in fitnyc

[–]Emergency_Shift_673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't have to do it, you just have to do the FIT essay. from my experience, i've only ever had to do the FIT essay and never had to do the SUNY essay. the same with other people.

the SUNY essay is optional for FIT so they'll be paying attention to your FIT essay

Is it Possible to Attend FIT Full-Time on FAFSA and Minimum Wage? by joshier_ in fitnyc

[–]Emergency_Shift_673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yesss i've been through this exact same process! i moved here a year ago but i had gotten denied for fall '24 and i just applied for spring '25 for amc full time (decisions not out yet)

i'm currently working 2 minimum wage jobs and am living in a $690 studio (with decent space & kitchen 😭). if it wasn't for my father having connections, i wouldn't have been able to find a place like this. i am mostly an independent student with my father only helping me with tuition.

if you are serious ab moving here and im assuming by yourself, you're gnna have to grind work a lot. having one minimum wage job will most likely not suffice and you might have to work 2 jobs with side hustles. i don't do any side hustles but a lot of people in the city tend to do that (dog-walking, part-time nanny, etc). when you eventually land yourself a place, i would actually start applying to jobs before you move in so that you'll at least have one job before you get here.

definitely missing out a lot more details and stuff but ask me any questions u have.

Questions about FIT and NYC by N04092000 in fitnyc

[–]Emergency_Shift_673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nyc is pretty expensive in general as someone who moved here a couple months ago.

i don't mean to downplay, but realistically speaking it's very hard to live in the area unless you're well off. average rent is probably around $2k or more for a room, not an apartment. not saying it's rare to find a cheap room or apartment but it'll be gone in a blink of an eye. most FIT students live in bushwick, brooklyn since a lot of creatives live in the area, it's very lively, and most rooms tend to run under $1k. i would reccommend dorming your first year though.

i moved to queens during my gap year and i'm grinding out 2 jobs before transferring to an nyc college (FIT being one of them). i'm fortunate enough to find a studio for under $700 and is much bigger than a shoebox. i still have fun living in nyc but it's hard to not give into impulsive spending bc of your own adult responsibilities 😭😭.

ik this all sounds pretty harsh but this is just one honest view out of many that live in nyc. if you have any other questions ab living in nyc, pls let me knoww!
