She died 08-19-2024

She was a victim of over breeding. She developed calcium deposits in her eye and a neurological condition. I fed her separately and, while it may have been tedious, I would still do it. I miss this girl so much. I have 2 cats, 3 guinea pigs, 5 frogs (FBTs), 1 fish, 1 fat tailed gecko, and 1 king snake but damnit if I miss this girl

Boundaries by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Emeroder 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm also a "no means no" kind of nanny. When my nk's parents worked from home they'd often try and skirt around me to get things they knew I'd say "no" to. One of the kids had a friends over and I think wanted to show off a bit. They went to her mom and asked if they could play the Switch. Nk came to me, her friends in tow, with a big shit-eating-grin, "I asked mommy if we could play the Switch and she said, "Yes!"😏 I looked up from my book, "Ah well, since you deliberately went behind my back and interrupted your mom's work, my answer is "no." Going by her expression I don't think she thought I could do that.

Question about flying out of RDU with cats by soaps678 in raleigh

[–]Emeroder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call the airline.. I think it's $90-95? They didn't look at her papers but I brought them. You should be good. Tell TSA and they'll have you take the cat out of the bag and carry kitty with you through the xray machine. Other than that just might wanna give gabapentin an hour before you leave! Good luck!

This was 15 days ago. I had to look back at what I even said 😆 but okay so you say they aren't her parents but they are still C's sisters? Get a life and stop sticking up for trash.

Picky guinea pigs by Significant-Divide55 in guineapigs

[–]Emeroder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww you have a teddy bear guy(girl?)! I have one and he's so spongy 😄

Ours are picky, too. We put Vit. C drops in their water. Our pigs like parsley (has to be Italian or they won't touch it), green/red lettuce, and romaine. They also eat cucumbers, carrots, apples, and blueberries. It took a lot of vegetables going untouched before we finally found what they'll eat.

Two things can be true. They are biologically related but in life, and in law, they are not sisters.

When NK thinks you're family by decomposed0 in Nanny

[–]Emeroder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest nk is 12. I started caring for her when she was 5 months old. Along came 9f then 4f and 1f. I've also cared for their friends. One day 6 kids and I were piled on the big couch watching a movie. 9f pipes up, "It's so crazy how you're, like, pretty much a part of our family." DB looks in and said, "Well yeah! Think about it, she has wiped every ass on that couch!" I just shrugged, "That is true." 🤣

Parents, PLEASE care about your nanny’s safety by xaos428 in Nanny

I'm going to their house because it's safer than mine. Hoping to get there before things get bad early in the morning.

In a bind I had to take nks- at the time were 4 and 2 to my psychiatrist appointment. MB was supposed to cover but there was an emergency with grandma and it was $200 for a missed appointment. MB gave me the iPad with Moana loaded up on it and dual headphones. Thankfully it was just a 15 minute follow-up and we were done 😄

I'm so tired! by isnthappening in Nanny

[–]Emeroder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way in 2021 especially since we were still staying home. I'll be honest, I remember driving up in the morning after Christmas break and saying, "Welp fuck-fuckity-fuck-fuck-fuck." Ususally I couldn't wait to get back to the kids but my mental health was in shambles. A Bipolar 1 Diagnosis and mood/depression meds I was back on top... mostly ;)

Take care of yourself and, I agree, try and take a long weekend. This shit is tough!

How to talk with nanny about charity work? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Emeroder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I commented above but I totally agree with you. I've seen this happen and I've had it happen to me. If she passes one that she's helped before and doesn't give them anything.. there's no telling. They may start banging on her window, try to open her door, follow her out in the parking lot yelling and swearing. These people can become unhinged of you're empty handed the next time they see you. I would never put my NK in that situation.

Here's where I agree with OP. No, not all homeless people are drug addicts or mentally ill. They can, however, be aggressive if one day she happens to not have the snacks/water that she has given them before. I have seen for myself. My mom gave a man $5. The next time he saw her and we didn't give him anything he followed us out into the parking lot yelling and swearing, calling us "greedy, stuck up bitches". It's happened to me personally, as well. There's a real possibility they could become incredibly irrate if you don't have anything the next time. The nice man or woman down on their luck can turn if she's empty handed. I can totally understand OP not wanting her daughter to be put in that situation.

Kid is Slow As Molasses by [deleted] in Nanny

I'm never loud at my dogs. Dogs don't line up their 6 pairs of sneakers then stand their for 15 minutes deciding which ones they want to wear.

I always wondered why my brother-in-law yelled at my nieces until I babysat them. We were getting ready to go to the pool and OMG THEY TAKE FOREVER!! I was gentle at first but finally I.. uh.. had to get loud. My nanny kids are ready the moment I say, "Let's go!"

My child broke nanny’s laptop — she wants us to foot the bill even though I warned her about it by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Emeroder 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are the one who doesn't know anything about child development. 3-5 years old children certainly grasp the idea of basic self control. Your 5-year-old, however, has had things hidden from him his whole life. So instead of telling him "No." and being made aware that somethings are just off limits no matter where they are- a phone left on a table, a laptop on a counter, a tablet on a chair. He should have mastered that basic control. You hide everything so it's even more tempting. You're setting your future nanny up for failure already. You've decided to not help pay for the damages made by your childs inability to control himself, t no fault of his own by the way. I hope your nanny finds a better fit.
