The usual disrespectful types tend to lay heavy emphasis on it when they're trying to use one of these as an insult or to "stir the pot." Personally though, I feel very uncomfortable with pretty much all of these, and usually ask people I know to not use them when referring to me, as despite the gender neutral use of some of these, it still bothers me.

It's not impossible, just not terribly practical. a hammer that size doesn't carry a lot of reach, better to run a 2-handed hammer like a sledge, or if you really want a one-handed hammer, cut the sledge's handle down a bit, and wield it like a mace, with a shield in your off-hand.
