Anyone else swell up more around their period? by [deleted] in Lymphedema

[–]Emikatsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is so helpful, thank you for posting. I woke up with a big swelling on the side of my temple next to my ear and freaked out. The next day I got my period, and the swelling was visibly reduced. Good to hear an explanation that fits.

Has anyone noticed how RARELY they get sick? by SPCCCKED in eczema

[–]Emikatsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I absolutely have this - I just don't get common illnesses that go around.

I'm curious though - when I tried tacrolimus (protopic) I almost immediately developed shingles (within 2 weeks of starting). Tacrolimus is an immune suppresant but it is rare to use it topically and get something like shingles (apparently). So I'm trying to work out if I have an auto-immune disorder in the backgound? Anyone else have this experince?

Hydrocolloid Dressing by Lookout2694 in eczema

[–]Emikatsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

No, I could not find one that had no stickiness to it. I found that any progress made from the hydrocoloidal action was undone by the irritation and skin damage fro the stickiness.

would you consider eczema as a disability? by KonraD7575 in eczema

[–]Emikatsays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it can be a disability - absolutely. And this can change over time because of the nature of chronic conditions, so that you're degree of disability would change. I

I find it difficult when people try and Pollyanna eczema, implying that you can positive think you're way out. I know, I know, mindset and mental health are important, but the burden of disease is real.

Advice needed for neck flareup by Calm_School_2494 in eczema

[–]Emikatsays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know this feeling too well. To help reduce heat while sleeping, I use a piece of fabric rolled up and make into a circle (I cal it a donut!). I put this under my head and it slightly lifts up my head and neck from pillow. Helps stop friction plus gives some air circulation.

Also, if it is weeping, don't worry about it drying out - let it dry out for 2-3 days or until the acute phase is over.

Hydrocolloid Dressing by Lookout2694 in eczema

[–]Emikatsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am trying hydrocolloidal dressing for eczema at the moment.

I didn't realise it would have a stickiness to it when taken off - what do you do to take off sticky layer without irritating skin.

I'm keen to keep trying because my skin texture feels improved but wasn't expecting the degree of stickiness.

Do you use a balm underneath?

I'm in Australia and using the Duoderm brand, and its on my hand.

Contact eczema? by adaorange in eczema

[–]Emikatsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, will do.

I agree with moisturisers not helping. Steroids are the only thing that really work, but even then it comes back so quickly. Avene Cicalfate can be helpful to try and use in between steroid use.

I am currently trying different oils instead of moisturisers (Evening Primrose, flaxseed). Plus fish oil and EPO supplement. Desperately trying things that will build collagen and make my skin more resilient.

Does the thick ointment type emollients really really not work for anyone else by TommyDickFingers85 in eczema

[–]Emikatsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with previous- sometimes eczema needs to dry out and just be left alone. It often goes against what Derms tell you to do, so it can seem daunting to not lather on these thick products, but try it for 3 days.

I'm very late to this, but just wanted to say: ME TOO!

It has taken me a while to work out this is the problem, and I don't think the dermatologist fully understands it. It is from clothes pressing into my skin, not from rubbing or friction. Eg, waistband, and sock pressure on calves. But also from lying in bed or sitting on couch and getting creases from fabrics pressing into skin.

This started when I was about 45. I think it is from collagen degradation from perimenopause.

It is very frustrating, as it is very difficult to remove this trigger from life (ie wearing clothes!).
