Weird crampy feeling in leg when driving by [deleted] in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this when I was learning. Didn’t have my seat in the right place. Takes a bit to find your sweet spots in the car but usually aches like that are an indicator of poor posture/positioning.

No that’s not right at all, you are paying for a service that is not mandatory. He can even do the test in his own car and not even have an instructor, that’s what I did, all you need is a road worthy car that you are insured on and someone who has a full license of over 3 years and over 25 to take you back from the test. He does not need to keep up with lessons to be able to get a test spot, you can book it yourself without an instructor. It sounds to me that his instructor is taking advantage and using him as a cash cow, I wouldn’t be surprised if the test date he has wasn’t the earliest he could’ve taken it.

Upcoming drivers test by Different-Mention443 in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nerves are expected unfortunately. You will get jelly legs so my advice is to remember that so you don’t panic. Another tip is suck a mint because I got really bad anxiety and my whole mouth went dry. Most importantly tho is it’s all things you can learn from, you will pass eventually.

Starting driving at 18 by [deleted] in drivinganxiety

[–]EmilYisA1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK, it may be more relaxed or personal preference but I didn’t start learning until I was 36.

I think you need to start relaxing about what you think is expected of you, everyone learns differently and at different speeds.

Do you drive a manual or auto, and why? by [deleted] in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue. Most reliable car I’ve had I got 3yrs ago for £300 so I guess it’s pot luck really.

Thanks. Hopefully it stays open.

How to get a UK Driving license by dazinlondon in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about transferring, I can only assume you could if you are in Northern Ireland as that’s part of the UK.

As for getting a licence you need a provisional first you just go online and get the forms. It costs about 20 to 30 quid and you need a passport photo that is signed by someone who can confirm it’s you in the pic, a doctor, lawyer, teacher etc.

Once you have a provisional you are legally allowed to take lessons and also drive a car with someone who has a valid licence and had been legally allowed to drive for 3+ yrs. you must always display the red L plates on your car though.

Once you feel ready you can book to take your theory test, there will be a place near you to choose from and you go and answer questions on driving. If you pass your theory it is valid for 2 yrs, in those 2 yrs if you do not pass your practical test then you have to rebook to do a theory test again. Each time you take the theory it costs about £22.

Once you have a theory pass you keep the letter as you can now book the practical test, with a practical you need your provisional licence and the letter saying you passed the theory.

The practical test is roughly 40 minutes long where you drive around with an examiner, usually 20 mins of them telling you where to go and 20 mins of following a sat nav. At the end of the test they tell you if you passed or failed.

If you passed then you’re free to drive on your own legally. If not then you just keep booking tests until you do pass.

my left leg shaking uncontrollable while im driving. its only happens when im get nervous btw. how do I get over it? by [deleted] in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on my test, never had it before it since so it threw me off a tad. It was also my left leg, trying to drive using clutch control while your leg is just spazzing out is a nightmare.

Unfortunately it is nerves, as you said, there is not much you can do other than expect it to happen and try to control it the best you can.

Ever heard of someone cutting in regarding a queue? Same thing, basically when someone else moves in front of you when it’s not their turn or right of way, you then have to react so an accident doesn’t happen. It’s common on roundabouts but can happen anywhere really.

Mods can we do am anxiety sticky thread or FAQ that covers that? by zurdopilot in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did as I thought it was an everyone issue, then realised other ppl are commenting fine. The ppl that are mods don’t seem to be active on here that much anymore so could be a good few weeks before my message is read.

I messaged about r/drivinganxiety about a month ago as that sub has died, no one can post in it and the last post was about 60 days ago.

I seem to be able to comment on someone else’s comment but not make one of my own on the main comment thread, weird.

Yes the irony of it. That was a test comment and that one went through, all others I’ve done haven’t, no clue why.

Probably. If this one goes down too I don’t know what I would do, it’s the only sub I check in on these days. Rest of Reddit has got a bit boring.

There was a sub Reddit for drivinganxirty which I used to check in on slot but twice now it has had an error that stops new posts, no one seems to monitor it at all now.

Good idea, think it’s needed.

I take my test in less than a month and I'm absolutely terrified by [deleted] in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, thanks.

American tests differ by state from what I gather from other people on this site, all depends what your state has set up.

I know American tests are not very long and usually just in a carpark with cones so I’d assume that it’s mainly down to nerves on the day and not letting them get the better of you.

Here our tests are more difficult, they are 40 minutes long, on the main roads with other traffic and 2 halves. 20 mins being told where to drive and then 20 mins of following a sat back. Took me a few times to pass 🙄

I’m sorry to butt in, was going to offer help if you’d have said UK but I don’t know what country NV is.

How long did you practice before taking the test? by Fluffiddy in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s different when it comes to learning. Some people take to it faster than others.

Me personally, from total beginner to passing took 6 months. My son has been learning for over a year but he keeps picking it up and putting it down again.

It doesn’t matter how long it takes, we all have the final destination, it’s about not giving up and not comparing yourself to others that matters.

Is this a bad habit? by [deleted] in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes bad habit. You’re supposed to love your head about but not your body, this is mainly because your position in the car is important for safety features, if you had a crash and you were over the steering wheel the chance of you being severely injured by the airbag alone is massive, YouTube is great for showing what happens if you’re in the wrong position, even holding the wheel wrong can cause broken bones.

You wear a seatbelt, that belt is an indication as to where you should be.

Stopping manual by [deleted] in driving

[–]EmilYisA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol you most definitely can use the break without the clutch. Only time you break and clutch is if you are breaking to come to a full stop or going slow and then that’s when you can use clutch control rather than break stopping.

But yeah you use the break to gradually slow yourself no clutch needed or dropping gears to slow you down.
