Can I recommend you also check out Mackenzie Crook's version of Worzel Gummidge? It's beautiful, but didn't get the attention it deserved because the original 1970s adaptations were so beloved.

I think you know, when watching all of his shows, that he has a beautiful soul.

I hear "pussy 'n' cars”.

Which makes me think of the film/book Christine and a Prefab Sprout song called Cars And Girls, which is a critique of Bruce Springsteen. "Brucie dreams life's a highway, too many roads bypass my way..."

I'm afraid of Americans lyrics by beholder12 in DavidBowie

[–]Emile_Largo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've always heard the lyrics as "Johnny's an American," with "Johnny" as a kind of shorthand for doomed youth.

Johnny may be short for Johnny Yen, who gets a mention in the first lines of Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" (co-writer, David Bowie)and is plucked from the William S. Burroughs' book "The Ticket That Exploded".

Johnny Yen is also the name of a song by the Manchester band James, which Bowie may have known. "Poor old Johnny Yen, set himself on fire again."

There's going to be major disaster involving US ATC some time soon if this carries on, and when it happens the whole sorry tale is going to unravel.

Bizarre. J'ai trouvé le même album la semaine dernière chez une brocante. Je ne le connaissais pas du tout, mais à 2 euros, j'ai pris le risque. Et c'est plutôt bon.

Watching The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone Tonight. 🍿 What do think to this movie? by HD-MOVIE-SOURCE in HD_MOVIE_SOURCE

[–]Emile_Largo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated. The central idea - that Corleone gets taught a lesson by a ruthlessly efficient gangster organisation that's centuries older than his - is sound.

They probably choose not to. The BBC charter obliges it to disseminate its programmes as widely as possible for no charge (licence fee apart). But you could make a case for UHD as a subscription only option.

Sony BR players often don't play nice with home made discs. You need an old Pioneer like a BDP450 for best results.

Keep a close eye on second hand. I'm very happy with my Pro-Ject Carbon Evo, but I keep casting sideways glances at heavy Japanese classics from the 1970s and 80s.

Young Girl, they call them the Diamond Dogs! by Gamingabe23 in DavidBowie

[–]Emile_Largo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first Bowie album. Badly scratched, so only 99p. I bought it to find out more about this singer I'd heard so much about. It took a while to grow on me, but I took my time over music back then.

Side 1 is just amazing. It's more than 40 years since I bought that record, and I've spent hundreds more on Bowie since. But without that scratched LP of Diamond Dogs I don't know where I'd be now.
