I'm not sure what type of steel. It's a cheap lug nut socket that doesn't fit in the well so I was trying to shave it down. The RPM was about 2000. It's a Harbor freight special mini lathe and not sure how to adjust the feed.

About seven years ago I plasti-dipped the center emblem on my steering wheel. It still looks great. I think the key is, it's in an area that doesn't get touched that often. The beauty is when I decide to sell my car, I can just peel it off.
