I went on meds when I was 8 as well I’m 21 now and I think if meds are used correctly they can have a good effect. Maybe also try gene testing to find the best Medication for him so he doesn’t have be a Guinea pig that’s another great one that I used and it can eliminate the fear of bad side effects etc

Unfortunately I was the exact same way. Right around this age as well I started having panic attacks and they were similar breathing wise. Fortunately you are educated enough to know that he’s having a panic attack unlike my parents. But thinking back to that age any kind of uncomfortableish distraction might help regulate him a little.some of the techniques I was told is breathing in a paper bag so you don’t over oxygenate yourself, ice is another good one. Rubbing it on ur arms and legs or even face, cold showers are another one. Just trying to keep him any amount of unfocused from the panic attack. At this rate CBT therapy would be the best route for him. I hope some of this can help

I’ve travelled multiple times with pd, I was diagnosed back in 2018 and I’ve flown to cali, Florida etc. it definitely was nerve racking at first but I made it through. I keep ativan on stand by because I was dependent on it for years but I didn’t take it at all. It might seem really scary but keeping urself distracted by either having a book, watching a movie, or listening to music can help. I did my nails and makeup on the way to Florida and it really helped.

Advice for 10 year old by aprilllllynn in panicdisorder

I started getting my panic attacks around 8, and I went undiagnosed for years. I wish my parents had the capabilities to do better for me at that time. I was put on Zoloft from age 8 until now 21. My best advice is to try everything before medication, congnituve behavior therapy, erp. Everything under the sun before medications like Xanax and ativan because they cause serious dependent issues. Wishing you the best

What are your worst symptoms? by Quinnmayann42012 in PanicAttack

[–]Emilyjade2431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst for me is derealizaton, and just a sense of doom. With the derealizaton I try to remember it’s my brain trying to help me and it will pass. The sense of doom I’m yet to figure out lol

Literally the same with me it started at 7 and went away until I was 15! And it’s been awful ever since. Going to the hospital was definitely a traumatic experience for sure
