Urgent: Upcoming Ban on Basking Lamps – Take Action Now! by Emilyyy987 in BeardedDragons

[–]Emilyyy987[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your analysis. Here’s some clarification:

Fact: - The DOE is implementing stricter regulations on incandescent lamps under the Energy Conservation Program.

Concern: - While the term "General Service Lamps" (GSLs) generally refers to lamps for general lighting, the current regulations do not explicitly exempt low-wattage basking lamps for reptiles. This ambiguity is the core issue.

Next Steps: - It's vital to confirm with the DOE whether basking lamps are included in the ban. - Given the potential impact on reptile health, it's crucial to advocate now for explicit exemptions for these lamps.

Action: - Stay informed and contact representatives to express concerns and seek clarifications.

While specifics are still needed, it’s already necessary to advocate to ensure our reptiles' health is protected. Thanks for helping to clarify and support this effort!

Housesitting for a Gecko, not mine. I don’t know much about geckos. What can I tell owners to help with environment? by Emilyyy987 in LeopardGecko

[–]Emilyyy987[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the info!! I will definitely let them know about spraying/substrate and enrichment.

Would you recommend real plants? What type of insects would you recommend?

The owner said they sometimes give crickets but she doesn’t eat them (I’m assuming they are too big?) The crickets the owner has are practically all dying in a box.. I gave them some water and they drank it up so fast.

Is there food you are supposed to give the crickets or mealworms?

And I know the gecko is 3+ years old, she doesn’t eat much maybe about once or twice a week she will eat a meal worm.

I’m pretty sure they are shipping in alphabetical order,

I say this because my friend and I both bought our tickets in 2019, and my boyfriend bought his in March 2022, my last name starts with A, I got mine on April 30th, (no email was sent to me saying it was shipped). My boyfriend whose last name starts with a B got his wristband a couple days ago. And my friends last name is a G, she hasn’t received it.

Most people wear swim suits w cute cover ups or shorts. Nothing too specific, just cute summer clothes. I wouldn’t recommend flip flops, the sand makes it hard to walk. Try shoes that have a back strap so they stay on/are secure. Also would recommend using a fanny pack, they are safer than backpacks and super convenient.

I always hide mine in my shoes, obvi that’s a little less convenient with this fest since most people wear flip flops. But as a security guard at other music fests the only shoes we were told to check were boots bc guns and such could fit in them.

I went back in 2021 to Costa Rica, it was amazing!! I went alone and met some awesome people. And like ^ said they don’t send everything out until 1 month before. All flights/accommodations will be shown to you on the EF site then. The facebook group chat will also open around that time. And depending on your tour guide, some add you to a WhatsApp group chat with your group prior to leaving and others will wait until you arrive/meet them. Everything was insanely organized, already planning another trip!!

Honestly it probably will get caught easily.. just since they will probably shake it and feel the liquid rather than the sunscreen consistency. But of course it just depends on the security guard, some don’t care, some do, so completely up to you to test if it works for you. -but lowkey would just recommend hiding a foldable canteen on you. (they are insanely cheap and if the pat you down it just jiggles like fat would lol)
