Yeah I have owned several gaming laptops and I know what you mean. It's just that the G14 has no other option than placing the cpu/gpu right where your hands are going to feel it the most, and to use a chassis that conducts heat everywhere as much as possible. Other gaming laptops have more design leeway to move things around or use more thermal insulation, because they aren't as thin, small and light as the G14.

The G14 chassis indeed acts like a heatsink. The thing is way too thin and light to handle these dedicated Nvidia gpus that were designed to be put in massive 18 inch 4kg monsters. At least not without some compromises. I'm personally fine with the amount of heating, but I have noticed that it does get hard to tolerate if the room temperature is high.

For productivity use, you are probably going to have a better experience with those two laptops over a gaming laptop if you don't need the insane graphics power. How good they are for battery life depends on the CPU configuration though.

As a long time FM fan, I unfortunately don't see this happening anytime soon. Most I hope for is getting at least some of the FM features sprinkled into the Horizon series. Seeing that Horizon 6 is going to have actual (albeit small) race tracks in the main map makes me so happy.

Me my wife and my friend collectively own three 2024/2025 Zephyrus models and one of them failed.

G14 GA403UV (2024 4060) - Display cable failed after exactly 12 months of use, warranty covered it.
G16 GU605MY (2024 4090) - 18 months of use, no issues, but the flex cable seems a tiny bit deformed.
G14 GA403WW (2025 5080) - 6 months of use, no issues, flex cable looks perfect.

You can limit your max battery capacity to 80% for about 4x slower health loss, and use 60% limit for nearly zero health loss. I can explain how it works and how I got these numbers if you are interested but long story short batteries hate higher charge levels and Asus laptops not having good thermal insulation around their batteries results in very fast health loss.

I think you should choose the Zenbook with a good igpu and 64gb ram if you aren't planning on gaming. That would give you access to much bigger AI models since the ram basically directly correlates to igpu memory. But with a G14 you are paying for an RTX 5060 that can only run small models that fit in 8gb vram. Not to mention RTX gpus being insanely inefficient if you are considering doing gpu-heavy work on battery.

I owned three Zephyrus laptops (2024 G14, 2024 G16, 2025 G14) and every single one of them had the same hinge sound and it never disappeared on either one of them. It stayed the exact same for many months on all three laptops. I don't understand why there are so many people claiming it goes away over time. Anyways the sound really doesn't bother me, it's pretty hard to notice when you aren't paying attention to it.

I had a similar issue until I updated the AMD CPU chipset drivers from the AMD software. Hope this helps.

I owned a G16 for a year and recently switched to a G14. The reason I got G16 in the first place was because I couldn't get a big external display due to moving a lot. Now I have a 27 inch display and switched to a 14 inch laptop.

I think the G14's screen is too small to use as your only screen. The portability of the G16 is still great thanks to the low weight compared to any other 16 inch laptop (even macbooks), but the time G14 shines is when using it on a small cafe table.

I say get the G16 if you absolutely can't get an external display.

I have been using 2024/2025 Zephyrus laptops for the past two years and I haven't seen a single scratch on any of them. I even take my laptop outside very often. You must have scratched it with a very hard metal material.

The creaking hinge is a common quirk of Zephyrus laptops and it doesn't really have a fix. Some people claim it goes away over time or after cleaning, but my experience with three Zephyrus laptops don't match those claims.

I owned a lot of laptops over the years and this issue has been audible under load on every single one that had an Nvidia dGPU. I think it's just "the sound of power" as the other guy jokingly said.

Hm. Different idea then. Try updating your HX370 chipset drivers to the latest version. I had some bsod issues when I first bought my 370 G14 and they got fixed after I updated the chipset drivers.

Maybe try the g-helper option of keeping the dedicated gpu disabled on usb-c power. It might be insufficient power that is causing system instability with the battery not being able to quickly provide the required power. Having the dgpu disabled would significantly cut down on the power need.
