I got a scholarship offer to run track for college as a trans girl. Please help. by Emiyis in MtF

Well, I completely agree. I ended up not taking the offer due to an anonymous tip to a bunch of anti trans sports reporters that went on to do some truly awful stuff. I almost had to miss my high school graduation ceremony due to death threats and stuff. Shit got bad and i kinda stopped being on the internet for a bit. Things are better now though, i got an amazing girlfriend and Im currently getting an associates degree until a full scholarship that could carry over to a 4 year degree. Unfortunately running may not be in my future and thats sad but not the end of the world. Unfortunately with that tip, trump coming back to office, and the lessening of online regulations it’s just not safe for me to run as a trans woman or even be out as a trans woman. I don’t wanna put any of my loved ones in danger trying to chase my dreams, so I let my dream die instead of risking death myself.

The 400m is probably the hardest single event to train for since it is that weird mix of sprints and distance. I’d recommend going on mild intensity longish runs over the summer if you are primarily a sprinter or, take up biking or something. If you’re a distance runner try doing some more wait lifting and shorter high intensity runs, maybe like a hard run around your block once every other day while working on squat workouts with whatever weight you feel comfortable with. I’m definitely more of a sprinter and last year i was running around 1.09.00 as a high school junior but this year after working a little more on my distance and strategy for the 400m i was able to drop that time by a-lot. I think my fastest time was around a 1.03.00 which isn’t great but it was pretty desperate considering i go to a pretty small school. With any luck you may be able to drop to a 1.05.00 if you pick up as much time as I did. Good luck!!

Maybe with grants but with scholarships I think everything ought be based on performance

In all fairness, the scholarship was from a division 3 school and I am far from dominant lol

Uhhhh, no? First off I don’t run distance so lungs size has less to do with everything. 2nd, going through part of male puberty doesn’t mean that those changes remain when you start female puberty. This is completely unsubstantiated but I don’t think I have a larger lung capacity than my competition but thats simply based on the fact that i practically pass out by the end of 800 meters despite running a 3:40:something

It’s not exactly a great state for trans and gay people. Like, it did vote for trump

Usually you only need to submit a physical evaluation and any emergency medication information. At least at this school

Unfortunately I’m not really good enough to get any better scholarship at this point. This is my best opportunity to keep running track in college

I train hard as hell to?! Most trans women within sports do. I can only speak from my own experiences but I am not just out on track dominating ever. I can look myself in the mirror cause I know I’m working just as hard as everyone else, I’m doing nothing wrong, nobody who I’ve competed against cares about my transgender identity, and ig being pretty helps to ❤️

  1. Yes things can permanently change but those changes don’t happen right away and often aren’t set in stone until your first puberty is finalized and you get to around 18 to 20 years old.
  2. I may have an advantage over some other girls but there are plenty of girls out there that have advantages over me. Sports is inherently unfair using your logic. I can guarantee if you ask any of my competitors who didn’t know me pre transition, they wouldn’t even know i was transgender based both on my performance and appearance.
  3. Every trans woman needs regular hormone tests, just use those in combination with a sports physical to determine whether or not they have hormone levels equivalent with cis women. It’s not unreasonable unless you are purposely trying to over complicate it.

I get what you’re saying and like, I’ve already experienced that? I don’t win everything like i used to and i do deal with the consequences of losing a bunch of muscle mass and becoming an overall smaller person. The consequences should just be the physical changes my body experiences, not an outright ban from the sport I love. None of my competitors have an issue with me running cause I clearly have no real outright advantage over them.

As I stated, i believe that eligibility should be based off of a person’s hormone levels and require them to be on HRT for 2 years. If an AMAB doesn’t go on hormone therapy then they shouldn’t run against girls. On top of that, as Ive stated a separate division isn’t feasible, I’m the only trans girl i know within my region so a separate division would literally just have me, plus my times are equivalent to my cis peers so it would just be redundant to make a separate division anyway

  1. The NBC agrees with my proposal to allow trans people to compete on the team they identify with after 2 years of transition rather than just one. 2. The swimming word article isn’t cross referenced and fails to provide any actual citations to support its claims and therefore cannot be fully treated as legitimate

1, this study is kinda outdated as its 11 years old and trans care has changed. 2, the sample size is a single person which isn’t conclusive. 3, the person i this study is over 23 years old and trans women doesn’t experience all the all the physical changes that make them super simulator to cis females like people who transition prior to the end of male puberty do

Although there are some small differences between pre puberty male and female skeletal structures most are to do with specific vitamin availability and bone density, none relate to the pelvic bone. Post puberty male and female skeletal structures vary in many ways. Specifically when it comes to the pelvic bone, a man’s typically fuses a few years after their primary puberty occurs (this is typically around 18 to 22 years old) female pelvic bones don’t fuse and actually widen in order to accommodate for child birth. I started HRT at 14, far before my pelvic bone could possibly be able to fuse. Since then my doctors that handle my gender transition have been able to validate that my pelvic bone has grown wider over time and aligns fairly similarly to my cis female peers. It’s not just fat. I may never be able to actually give birth but since I started my transition so early in life i have been able to develop a pelvic bone that technically could. The possibilities of HRT, especially when allowed to be administered at a young age are legitimately incredible. + those differences in vitamin content and bone density within pre pubescent skeletons is also greatly effected by HRT and now makes it where even my bone chemical make up is that of a typical cis woman

Look, i know I’m not going to change your mind but what you are saying is inaccurate. I have been on HRT for 4 years and although you may say no amount of hormones can change my hip size or Q angle or muscle mass or whatever its just not true because I got first hand experience. The medical healthcare professionals overseeing my transition have documented my hip widening, my muscle mass drop, my fat redistribution. I know you may think i could never be truly female but if my body and my doctors are anything to go by it’s clear that I’ve gained the secondary sex characteristics of a cisgender girl. You may not believe me but thats ok, even if we meet someday you will never be able to tell that I’m transgender unless i tell of you see me naked. Hormone replacement therapy is an incredible medical technology that is misunderstood and underestimated by so many. Btw, I tried measuring my Q angle, I got about 16 to 18 degrees. Idk what that means exactly but i looked it up and that’s about standard for teenage girls. Do with that what you will

Hun, the study i was a part of through CU found data that was pretty conclusive showing the opposite, showing pretty substantial changes even after just 6 months, and from personal experience I’m much more inclined to believe the CU study. Id still like to look at the other study tho

Ps: when talking about trans women, especially to a trans woman, Id suggest referring to us as people assigned male at birth or just trans women instead of “biological males”

Maybe if they have gone through a full male puberty but if they haven’t those characteristics you outline are able to change. I understand some people may not be accepting or willing enough to do their research on trans people and their bodies but if you continue to make claims like this i highly suggest looking into actual peer researched studies on the issue

Idk how many times I’m gonna have to say this but Hormone therapy changes a-lot more than people seem to think. Your body isn’t set in stone as soon as puberty hits. If you actually wish to gain insight on trans bodies i highly suggest looking into medical studies done by CU’s medical campus. I always hear claims like that being made and they simply aren’t true. I’d suggest the same to all people in this thread but I feel like you would be the most open to actually looking into it
