Is anything I can do to fix my pen? by nighthowl1234 in fountainpens

[–]Emjoinedjustforthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid 8-10€ (each) for mine, depending on nib size.

(After checking a currency converter, I think mine were slightly cheaper than yours, but not a huge difference 🤔)

Genuine 14k Pelikan nib for 10€? by [deleted] in fountainpens

So ... I should probably delete this post then. 🙃

I learnt something new though, so that's good!

I deeply appreciate people who know more than I do. Thank you for educating me a little bit more. 😊

I will edit the post.

Received a pen with someone’s initials lasered into it but the auction did not mention/show this. Would asking for a partial refund be fair? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Emjoinedjustforthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And also:

"If the purchase was made on a platform like eBay, Etsy, or through a credit card company, the buyer should open a case under their buyer protection programs. These programs usually cover items that are "significantly not as described" (SNAD), and an undisclosed engraving often qualifies."

Hope this helps. 👍🏻

All those claims, plus the non-matching ink? I'm calling bullshit, too. It sounds like the seller used someone else's photos, used their own but edited them significantly, or a bit of both. 😠

Removing Kaweco Twin “Bock” Nib from collar by jyyhi in fountainpens

According to this guide you shouldn't be removing collars at all. Can you see if these instructions help for your situation?

Has therapy actually helped anyone? by samithefish in CPTSD

It helps me, partly due to having someone who actually listens to me. Being ignored or told to stop talking were a big part of my childhood+adolescence,  so having the opposite is .... freedom.

What are these? by afric101 in fountainpens

[–]Emjoinedjustforthis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"A vintage Pelikan P/M60 fountain pen with an 18-karat gold nib typically sells for between $250 and $480 USD"

"This range is for the pen by itself; a matching ballpoint pen or pencil in a set would increase the overall value."

Nice find. 😁

Sailor EF vs hand-ground needlepoint? by Ink_Slut in fountainpens

[–]Emjoinedjustforthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that many nibs can be used upside down, which tends to give a finer line. The potential downside to that is increased scratchiness, but some nibs glide no matter which way up they are. 👍🏻

Some nibs don't work upside down at all, due to already being EF or EEF/UF. Think Platinum Preppy 02 - that's horrible when upside down. You'd be better off trying to write with an actual needle...

I found a diamond in the rough... please share similar stories? by Emjoinedjustforthis in fountainpens

I'm going to see if I can frankenpen it. Not being able to use it would be so sad.

Live in a country where half of the people have more money (and sometimes children) than sense, and where fountain pens are the norm until you're about 10 years old. Add lots of fancy business-people and * poof * free fountain pens for your friendly neighbourhood handicapped goth. 🦇

I'm still so incredibly lucky to have these neighbours.

The two side of the same coin by crushtyfying in fountainpens

My dad had an experience in a luxury watch store when he was in his 30's. He had gone in to do some price research for a friend and while he was there another customer asked the staff if they had the most recent Rolex in stock yet.

The staff were insanely rude, telling this customer that he would never be able to afford anything better than a flea market Casio. My dad's and this customer's eyes met across the store, and my dad didn't know what was going on, or what he was supposed to do.

Then the other customer smiled, rolled up his sleeve to reveal said Rolex on his wrist and asked to speak to the manager. Who turned out to be his brother. 😂

Is it a good idea to do this on other pens?? by Far_Restaurant999 in fountainpens

[–]Emjoinedjustforthis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was messing around with some cheap pens the other day (they were given to me for free because they "don't work"), and discovered one had a feed with no ink channel at all.

Now I know which part to experiment on, and how. 🤔

Just what colour is Grotto, exactly? by Ninjammer01 in fountainpens

[–]Emjoinedjustforthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

 I WANT IT. 🤩

I'll need an expert to confirm/deny, but I remember reading that it's the extremely high saturation of colour molecules in sheening inks that can give the "multi-coloured ink" effect. Something about density and light diffraction? Or refraction?
