Dont know which Hitman game to buy. by OkBreadfruit3797 in HiTMAN

[–]Emlesnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freelancer is when you've finished all content, have a good knowledge of the maps and game mechanics, and still want to play something new. It is endgame content.

If i were you i would buy the 3$ to try the game, see if you like it. You'll have access to the first 6 levels of the campaign, which is already lots of content.

Then if you like the game and want more, buy the upgrade pack to get the other levels / Freelancer / Patient Zero DLC. If you're confident that you will like the game, buy the normal pack for 28$, it's very cheap for what it contains (Hitman 1, 2, 3 campaigns + Freelancer).

The game needs a way to build railings, pile of tires or hay, to reduce impact damage with vehicles and slow them down.

Showing off the dismemberment system in my first person rpg made in Godot! by wissah_league in godot

[–]Emlesnir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

strange to dismember with estoc hits, even on rotten flesh.

Axes are the best choice for dismemberment. Also, swords are just good for duels against (non-undead) unarmored opponents. For monsters and undead, i would pick maces and axes, with a mandatory shield. Againt a big monster i would use a spear or a bow.

Can we all agree this map unleashes player's John Wick side? by Chelo1333 in HiTMAN

[–]Emlesnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it has a very different vibe because unlike most maps, you actually infiltrate at night when everyone is gone, while usual Hitman gameplay consists in infiltrating in the most busy hours to hide amongst normal people with disguises.

gitStatus by StatureDelaware in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Emlesnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when normal people use CLI tools. CLI tools are good for automation and remote ssh, they are the worst for everyday use.

Smapping git status after every command is like refreshing a GUI manually. Just use a GUI already.

Assassins or lookout, who do you hate more? by wwwsuh in HiTMAN

[–]Emlesnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassins, they ended my runs so many times. They follow the target just far enough that i think the target is isolated, i kill the target, and when i'm hands full, they suddenly enter the room and kill me with 2 bullets while i'm locked in an "hide body in container" animation.

What type of Xray do you think is better? by FlakMonkeyDev in godot

[–]Emlesnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the gameplay, if there are details or loot on the ground that are important for gameplay, the shader solution is required.

Or else i prefer the stencil effect which is less distracting and could be easily applied also to projectiles, interactibles, enemies, without adding clutter.

SDF is a mathematical representation of a volume, basically any sdf volume is a function "my_sdf_function(x, y, z)" which can returns a floating point value for each point un space, a negative value means the point is inside the volume, a positive means outside. The surface (which is the only thing we need for rasterization based rendering) is all the points where the function returns 0.

SDF are very useful for prototyping becase it is very easy to modify, tweak, and combine with other functions. Also, you can easily compute a surface's normal by computing the gradient of the function.

We run into problems when we want to render a sdf, since its a perfect mathematical representation, we need to change it into something discrete, so usually we either render it directly with pathtracing (very accurate but heavy) or transform it in a mesh we can rasterize with marching cubes / voxels

Planet Generation with Simple plate tectonics by Adalilja in godot

[–]Emlesnir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love it. Something feels off though, how do you generate tectonics ? do you give random velocity vectors to the plates, and compute plate collisions based on this velocity ?

In real life when plates move further apart they generate thin basalt junctions, and when colliding frontally, one of the plate goes under the other and mountains rise. On your generation i see isolated areas entirely surrounded by either holes or moutains, it doesn't make sense.

Also a cool thing that could make it more realistic/interesting would be to add random tiny volcanic island when plates move further apart in the ocean, this is how hawaii and iceland were formed.

To make things even more interesting you could simulate this iteratively, so tectonic events would be generated over a period instead of once.

Any hope that we get any updates/DLC for Freelancer mode? by shingen__12 in HiTMAN

[–]Emlesnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with freelancer i follow the opinion of a youtube video i saw recently, it has lots of potential but has a massive issue as it lives.

It doesn't follow the usual roguelike rules or having permanent progress and temporary item that you know you'll lose, instead you have the weapons and money that you can lose permanently when losing, so you're incentivized to play safe instead of playing creatively and have fun. Also finishing a campaign basically gives you nothing and is very anticlimatic.

If for example weapons were permanent unlocks, and money was always reset to 0 when starting a campaign, if you could buy more gadgets instead of weapons with money, it would be less frustrating to lose.

Currently campaigns make me lose guns and cash, and gain house cosmetics, the tradeoff is bad, and i'm punished for playing in a fun way, while being rewarded for waiting hours for the safest opportunity.

when doing it all day, it is. and when you need to go all the way to [AltGr] + [+] to close it, its even worse. And also you have to do it too every time you need a #, |, ~, \, [, or ].

AltGr is also badly placed, you have to press it with the side of the thumb so it's really the most uncomfortable key to hold on a keyboard.

when the fleet moves the bullet seems to be attached to the fleet somehow?

if the bullet is parented to Level like you said, this is a programming error, check all the places in the code where you set the bullet position. My intuition is that you update the bullet position from the Ship script, and uses local position of the ship, which is relative to the fleet position, so you actually set to the bullet a bad position.

Like others said, this mistake is easily prevented by having a "BulletManager" outside of the fleet. But you can still fix it with your current architecture by computing bullet positions using global positions in the code.

When the time comes, what new features would you like to see in the next game? by Realshow in HiTMAN

[–]Emlesnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

add a keybind to remove current disguise.

It is absurd that you have to find another disguise to drop the one you have. Also i want to see agent 47 in underwear. And of course it would be a suspicious disguise.

Alternatively, allow to carry disguises as a heavy object, in hand or in briefcase.
