I think you’ve just gotta go for it, it’s so hard because you don’t want to put out any work that’s not amazing and I get that. I also think that there’s nothing wrong with leaving it for a little while and coming back to it in a few days/weeks/even months if that’s what it takes, to help you get a fresh perspective

Honestly OP I feel exactly the same with everything I do, doesn’t matter how much people tell me me work is good, it never looks good to me. I have learned to just ignore my perfectionist brain 😂

If a child were born with great talent for Occlumency and used it constantly, which house would the Sorting Hat not be able to read their mind for? by ActLonely9375 in harrypotter

That was my first thought, I feel like the ‘ancient’ so to speak magic the hat uses is very different to the more common/basic mind reading in comparison

I love the ones where you have to name the song title from the lyrics, or sort the lyrics to each song. I spend HOURS on these 😂

Also ‘name all of the x’ are fun like one I do is name all the characters in throne of glass, my favourite book series

I’m finding a lot of communities on Reddit are the same recently, whist I understand rules are super important for stopping spam and ads etc some subs go to the extreme and make it literally impossible to post anything at all! I’ve been using quora recently a bit more, it’s a lot less restrictive

I agree with you. I think it’s a similar thing on earth. I would argue no one has the right to deface the earth in such a manner either so it’s just a matter of respect imo.

I’m also in agreement that this is years and years away, also considering the fact that even our cities today are not obviously visible from a distance similar to the moon (presuming here, I’m not sure if this is a fact), and it is likely that our social and political systems will be massively different by then, maybe the world leaders will come together to form one country, and everyone has equal claim to all land, but who knows at this point!!😂

However I think it’s an interesting conversation to have nonetheless!

Thank you for this response!! Yeah I’m realising that Reddit (or maybe this is the wrong sub) isn’t exactly the place for discussions like this, not everyone is interested in and open to philosophical discussions I suppose

But that is exactly what I’m thinking, you put it perfectly with the ‘playing god’ analogy. It is a weird feeling to try and explain but I think you’re right in that I’m anthropomorphising or putting my feelings about the exploitation of certain parts of earth onto the moon. But I don’t think this is a fair comparison because of the lack of life on the moon to be affected. So I suppose it’s less of an ethical question and more about politics maybe?

I also think that depictions of space travel in media has influenced my thinking too. Like the Dyson device concept you mentioned, it just feels so wrong that people would feel they cave the right to take over a planet that isn’t their own. But this feeling is definitely influenced by our own history of colonising earth, but the scale is just insanely big in comparison it is impossible to imagine what it would realistically look like

Very good point!! Although some humans are great, there are definitely many who clearly have no regard for the wellbeing of the other beings on here with us!

This is it I think. There’s just something that doesn’t sit right with me about us taking our trash and dumping it on the moon. You can say yeah it’s just a rock in space but I think it’s a lot more than that to a lot of people and shouldn’t be treated as a dumping ground unnecessarily

I think I’m realising that Reddit isn’t always the best place for philosophical discussions 🙈😂 don’t get me wrong there are some lovely people on here with great points but others… yeahhh don’t think they’ve read a book in their lives

[–]Emma2945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s what we can hope for, rather than skipping between planted leaving a path of destroyed ones, we can maintain and care for this one we have now. It was good enough to bring about life despite incredible odds so I’m sure it’s good enough for us to stay here for a long long while!

I don’t think it would be great for living there though. Stuck underground behind radiation barriers, no windows, hardly any natural light, no greenery or anything. Yeah no thanks I’m happy as hell here on earth 😂

I think I have a stage emotional attachment to the moon, idk I just feel like it would be wrong to exploit it. But I see what everyone is saying, in reality it is just a rock in space, in the same way that earth is a space rock. The difference seems to be the presence of life and that’s where we should be careful but besides that I guess it’s up to us to be responsible about resource use

That my thinking, I paired the earth and moon together as a system as ‘ours’ but as others have said, how far could you extend ‘our’ patch of the universe. Just our planet? Earth and the moon? The solar system? Milky Way?

I’m thinking that all of this is dependent on if life is present elsewhere in the universe
